As a former Fedex manager who worked at all of the stores at and surrounding McCormack, I would also recommend shipping your equipment and setup ahead of you upto a week to a Fedex or Ups store and pick it up. I wouldn’t recommend shipping to the location because of the receiving fees there. Hope it helps someone.
Love how honest you are about not only profits but the bts. Sorry you had such a traumatizing experience in Chicago, but I'm glad you'll be coming back to Anime Matsuri! This video definitely helps remind me why I don't want to table at cons (I used to want to so badly) but it takes a certain amount of grit to get through them!

Omg I felt for you when they did that to you on the plane and the lost luggage!! I am glad that you found them, 99% never see there luggage again and that random guy punching you was just gut wrenching 😢

Its never as easy as "Oh I make art and I'm going to magically show up and make money at conventions" so much background prep and procedure. As a person who was born and raised in Chicago, (then moved away!) I'm very sorry to hear about your experience here. This city usually has a lot to offer, but sad to say Chicago is going through some serious problems right now.

I’ve never done C2E2. I live within driving distance but you’re right in that Chicago is expensive. This year it conflicts with my big local show of the year.
Props to you for traveling by yourself to cons! Hopefully our paths cross one day. Hyper hyper hyper agree on the airtags! I bought some right after christmas and seeing all the crazy bag problems people were having over the holidays.

I’m sorry to hear about what happened to you in Chicago! That was very stressful! But I’m glad you had a blast. I’ll be tabling at C2E2 this coming March and then going to Texas for WeebCon in April! C2E2 will be my first convention and WeebCon is just a week after that do right off the bat I’ll be doing back-to-back cons! 😳 Stressed but excited. I’ve been preparing since 2 weeks ago. Your videos have been really helpful and I appreciate your candidness. More power to you!

sorry that happened. but here is my question. why even though you didn't get a notification email that your flight was cancelled, how come they not only let you check your bags, but you almost boarded the wrong plane. so disappointed in the service, procedures and their systems. I am so upset I cant even get my words out.

I’m so sorry you had such a rough go of it when it should’ve been such a great experience. These kind of things eventually make for entertaining stories. I hope you move into that sentiment in an expedient manner. Wishing you the best as you move forward.
Strangely enough when I did my flying to conventions especially 2012 till when I stopped in mid-2017 and now doing them again since last year in 2022 I remember having a weird issue like this before with my suitcase full of my merch. I still vend by myself on top of my storm chasing and 95% of the time Southwest has been awesome to fly with but the situation you were in feel VERY similar to a 2015 issue I had flying from Albany, NY where I live and going to Seattle for a MLP con called Everfree NW back when I did a lot of MLP art/comics. I usually fly/drive the day before any convention but I knew this was already a problem when I got to airport in Seattle and realized they didn't have my big suitcase with ALL my merch in it. Like this was a 80lb suitcase and while I still had my backpack/small suitcase/banner stand with me I was utterly freaking pissed when they told me the suitcase never made it onto the connecting flight in Baltimore and they said it would arrive the next day in the morning as there was no more flights to Seattle from that airport to connect it to. This is 5pm PST as well.
I basically waited the next day for any updates and by this point the convention was ongoing for their Friday and MLP cons are tricky as your best days are usually Friday and not Saturday like most others are. Not sure if that has changed but MLP people usually on day 1 buy and impulse buy more I found back in the day. Anyway, my suitcase finally arrived not in the morning but Mid-day and even the convention middle of the day was asking where my stuff was and potentially would give away my table to someone else for the day and I had to ensure than my suitcase and merch was coming. It finally did but by the time I set up I had virtually meeger sales the entire day and the convention kind of turned into a barely break even even for me as I lost virtually all that morning and mid-day rush Friday. I was pissed and all Southwest gave was the voucher as you got. Actually that is usually what they always will give out if they screw up. I mean I have taken advantage of those a lot when it more so dumb stuff happens when I fly back to Albany for whatever reason but this was the first and only time I can remember anything massively dumb SW did when I was flying to a convention. I have gotten lucky since then nothing has happened but also since I restarted vending my Werewolf art now and still the left over mix of MLP stuff I have been hesitant to want to fly to fur conventions. Not that Southwest would screw up my merch but more so the flying now is getting insane no matter what airline and while I will still and will always fly Southwest cause I mean that 2 free bag thing is AWESOME, it's just the cost of flying is a HUGE expense to make up sometimes. I just need to build up again a good non-MLP inventory some more before I consider flying to conventions cross country.
Only doing 3 conventions, since restarting again, and also on this past weekend I still have my same cost-saving measure and never stay near the convention or convention hotels. I usually find something within 20 miles if I drive or if I fly I make sure find the cheap hotel like a Ramada or something. hehe also I usually feel that doom and gloom feel when vending...though I don't seem to make a lot and don't do it full time ever so it's tricky. I feel like a small fish in a big pond unlike the old days I vended....but that's also maybe case my 5 years off kind of shook me out of my game still...kind of.
I'm so sad you had such a rough time in Chicago 😭 I just wanted to give you a hug when you were crying! Stupid airlines...

I think you should maybe get one printed with all your cute designs on it, maybe Oil Cloth (I’m in the Uk so not sure you have it in the US) either way any material I feel would be SO FRICKEN CUTE 🥰 x
What I did the last time I did a show in Chicago, a group of us went. Not terribly healthy but efficient: we bought three big deep dish Chicago style pizzas. Two slices will get you through a day of con. This lasted us the entire three day con. Four 20 something guys.
Keep extra copies of your lists too if you need it for lost luggage sake. Copy in each bag and at least 2 to keep on your person or carry on.
And the one thing I dont understand is, if your ticket wasnt good for that flight, how did they let you to check in? Like didnt they checked your stuff and said ,,oh thi ticket isnt for this flight,, or smthing?
I remember the lost luggage story when it happened, im glad it was a decent show in the end. I noticed you were right in front of my friend Dave Wheeler! Lol so random... next time im Chicago fishy homeless people, noted!! Lol but on a serious note, glad youre ok!
I think you handled the situation with as much grace and fierceness, I would've been a push-over tbh but at least you put them in your place >..< I hope to sell at artist alleys one day and hopefully meet you ^...^

26:20 Sounds like a nightmare. I don’t think I could handle that stress of losing my luggage or art at the airport. I am very protective of my art. I would feel very devastated. Nice vlog though.

I got punched in the shoulder by a homeless guy during a long distance bus layover once and that shit is so unexpected and scary. The police came and got him (after he peed on the front of the bus 🥴) and he had some serious mental health issues so at least they were able to get him the help he needed

Anime matsuri is a horrible con, the owners are grifters with thier guests with reported new articles by the local news how bad they are business wise. Not counting for the fact for the sexual harassment. I wish artists would stop supporting that con, it's been that way for 10 years at least.
