  • Yuck! Out of sight, out of mind. This is one of the easiest areas on your bike to ignore. But after seeing what the steering head bearings looked like, I had to check the swingarm and dog bone bearings. This is what I discovered and I am very glad I decided to do this project.

    Thank god for this video, I bought a used 2018 GSXR 750 and the rear swing arm was damaged and I have zero experiance with motorcycle repairs. After watching this video I had the old swing arm out and the new swingarm installed, replaced sprockets and chain (watched different video) all in about 3 hours.

    I've got the 2019 GSX-S750 and man it's a blast to ride. Riding it all the way through winter but I don't have any garage like you have (also, weather is much better, freezing temps but no snow), so I'm taking maintenance step by step outside, buying all the tools for the job I have to do haha. Currently around the 10.000 mile mark and still going strong. Also basically learning everything off of youtube. It's not that maintenance is hard, it's just the kind of 'intimidation' before the upcoming job. Thanks for making these videos, they really are helpful :)

      I experience the same feelings before a new project. But I realized that as I finish each project my comfort level is going way up! I now know the lay of the land. And it’s MY bike 😎 We’ve been through a lot together lol I do feel your pain about working outside. I have to do that with my cars. I have changed oil in 0 temps! I have found that 2 very large painters tarps (20 feet by 100 feet) can create a nice tent when draped between two cars. Add a propane heater and it can get so comfy that I’m able to remove my coat and gloves 👍 I did a brake job on the van like that! Ha! BTW I did buy the service manual for my bike but I still need to seek more info on google/UA-cam. I’m so thankful for all those who share their knowledge and wisdom. Be safe and stay warm! Thank you for the feedback 🙏

    Looks like the same swing arm as my old 1996 Suzuki Katana. It's like just box tubing from metal shop in high school. Ever compare side by side to the swing arm on a cb650r?

    • @sstressfl
      @sstressfl  Рік тому +1

      It was a parts bin bike! Suzuki was suffering when they introduced it in Europe but it did so well they introduced it in the us in 2015. In 2017 they began to make improvements. This like it! Silky smooth, handles well and plenty quick for me 👍

    Definitely next winters project, should be just over 20k by then. Theee is no good way of doing needle bearings, but the grease method seems to be best available.
    Ps its really bad for a torque wrench to use it to break bolts free, they are more of a precision instrument than a general tool

    • @sstressfl
      @sstressfl  3 роки тому +1

      I’ve heard that before but I usually remove the torque setting down to 0 to avoid hurting its accuracy. If it’s a truly tough bolt I put the impact wrench on it 👍

      @@sstressfl that was something that was always drilled in when I was in school, i have a big ratchet and if that doesn't work go for the impact

    Have you tuned your suspension from the factory?
    I bought mine off a bigger guy, but I'm too afraid to mess around with suspension cuz of the dangers at speed.

    • @dare92
      @dare92 3 роки тому +1

      Have a look at Dave Moss Tuning's channel on suspension tips and tricks and howtos

    • @sstressfl
      @sstressfl  3 роки тому +1

      I have softened the rear suspension due to the bumpy dirt roads here and then found that the front wheel lifted too easily. So I stiffened it back up again 👍 I adjusted the front suspension to stiffen it a little bit as it seemed to get a little softer/saggier after 4 years. It restored the front responsiveness perfectly. That’s all I’ve done 🙂
