I mostly like only his True Confessions segment, because there is some information communicated. You actually learn something about the guests, not just that they’re willing to play stupid games.
Look at the legacy this man has left all of us. Gone 2.5 years now, but people will still watch his shows, read his books and search for his interviews. Ten, twenty, even thirty years from now people will still be learning from his work and be able to appreciate him. That he touched so many lives on a global level is a epic tribute to his legacy that we all get to share. You were the best!
There's little burger places throughout L.A. that advertise "true" kobe beef burgers and use truffle oil. Theyre always overly expensive and small portions. Umami Burger i believe does this shit.
Born and raised in California. As a child through the 70-80's we always had avocados; cut in half eaten with a little citrus and salt and put them on a lot of things even toast. This whole avocado toast trend is pretty funny.
He is not a snob. He is actually calling out the pretentious bullshit people buy into. He knows his stuff too. Did you even comprehend what he said? Lol
I had a friend like Anthony Bourdain in my 20s. He was a rich young lawyer who fancied himself a food and culture snob and he was pretty bright and well read and traveled around to all these seemingly exotic places like Colombia, Brazil, Russia, Iceland and had all these "most interesting man in the world" stories. He also drank like a fish, secretly solicited high end hookers and was a secret pill popper and his shtick rang more and more shallow the older I got. Eventually he got fired from his law firm for missing work and entered rehab and I haven't heard from him in several years. Bourdain is a young man's version of an urban sophisticate until you grow up and realize he's full of shit and a ridiculous social striving poser.
Nah , he's a snob now . He'll visit a town with 100 breweries and order a bud lite out of spite. He's become a snob IMO and badmouths other chefs. I've been in the food industry for 30 years from Hawaii to Florida. I used to be a huge fan , but not anymore. he talks of food purity and freshness ,buying local etc. but orders a bud lite instead of 100s of well made home brews made by local people in town , literally a tap five feet from where he's sitting and he orders watered down piss beer He can fuck off for all I care.
Woops! This comment definitely turned into a troll-type. I was trying to say "...only Anthony Bourdain could pull off those comments..." Sorry for the irritation Andrew.
Has anyone ever watched his show Kitchen Confidential? Got cancelled because it was released during the "reality cooking shows" craze so there was no interest in a food-centric sitcom. The show is loosely based off Bourdain's life and there's a brunch episode that explains his hatred for it. It's friggin awesome. lol
Lynn Y I adored that show. And it started a young Bradley Cooper. It was funny, had elements of realism in kitchen life and yet over the top as well. I think had it come out 10 years later it would have been more popular. But even then, it is still very niché as most people do not get the chefs life and think most is fabricated for tv. Chef and Burnt were good movies (burnt was far better) but most people didn't love them.
That might be because it's become the next fad that's cheap and easy to execute. It's usually a good sign that chains are digging deep to target millennials (ugh... that's a sour word to say). Truffle oil is its more cultured college junior brother who likes a "nice meal with the locals in a quaint hill country village every now and again."
There's no Kobe beef in Kobe beef sliders. Only a minuscule amount of Kobe beef actually makes it to the US, and you've probably never had it. That labeling is either completely false, or refers to American beef that has vague lineage to Kobe cows. On the other hand, I live in Kyoto and I can get a tiny Kobe steak for like 30 bucks at the supermarket down the street. Eat your heart out.
Tzardeck it doesn't even matter whether it's real kobe or not. When you grind the beef, it's just ground beef. You can add more fat into the mixture to reach a similar fat content with wagyu beef and you won't know the difference because it's all been grounded anyway.
The idea of using genuine kobe beef for anything other than a steak is horrifying. It's like the most pure beef on the planet. Why would you grind it up and compromise it's taste by putting it between to buns? When you eat real kobe beef, there shouldn't be any other flavor, especially a carbohydrate, to contaminate it. It's evil
Actually, Kobe beef is commonly eaten in a variety of ways. In Japan there are a bunch of famous beef types that pretty much taste the same (the three most famous being beef from Kobe, Shiga, and Mie). In Japan it's popular to serve them in dishes like sukiyaki, shabu shabu, and nikujaga, or some other dishes where you can experience the flavor pretty directly. Steak is not a traditional dish in Japan, so it's not seen as 'the' way to serve beef. I'm also not really sure that personally I prefer it as steak--Kobe beef is so fatty that I think it really works well in dishes where the beef is sliced very thinly; so, sukiyaki and shabu shabu. Also, the idea of Kobe Beef being the best of the three is largely a western idea--most of the time they're clumped together in Japan and just called 'wagyu.' Also, it's not like every part of the cow can even be served as steak.
Truffle oil .. not even food! I missed him already. I grew to like Anthony because he is so down to earth and real. A great chef is one who makes great food with simple ingredients!
Hello! Can you please write the rest of his comment on truffle oil? I am not an English native speaker and I struggle to understand the rest of his comment. Thank you!!!
this is why i loved this guy, honest as fuck, dont give a shit about what you are saying, call it like it was attitude, I hope you are in peace my man, RIP brother.
He always does that on talk shows and events like this. He's used to being around cameras in a casual environment where he's in control, and he usually seems to get pretty nervous like that when he's in the spotlight alone.
Najha Zigbi-Johnson I’ve had success Shazaming UA-cam videos. It can take a couple of try’s but the speakers on the other device are loud enough it will pick it up.
Nothing wrong with avocado toast per se, it's only when they put one half of avocado on a toast and charge 14 bucks for it at some hipster place and sell it off as some fucking culinary experience. Yes, I'm talking from personal experience.

Yessss! I wish we could trade off Fallon and get Bourdain back
Hands down one of the most fascinating men in modern culture. He understands food and culture to its core.
Doe Says i wouldn't go that far
Hands up, he looks like a nervous wreck. Keep your hands down, Anthony!
The man had problems in his life man, may he rest in peace
Anthony just slammed 90 percent of hipster UA-camrs with the juice bar commentary. I love it.
WarlordRising guy was an absolute legend
i mean, it really rips the wheels off of LA too lol
I’ve been guilty of a lot of these trends and I still laughed my ass off, it’s all so true 😂

I loved his show "No Reservations"!
Pretty sure Bourdain is the very definition of pretentious.

I worked in a kitchen truffle oil is pretty much a cheap way of trying to "fancy" up a dish. Some cook really take it to far.
Professor X I like the taste.
It adds a smell imo more than a taste but I should be used sparingly. It is also like restaurants that like to throw caviar on things.
.
We put it on popcorn with a white cheese.
Really tasty
We also put it on fries
Guests love it
Professor X it's the same stuff they use to make perfume I think.. Ughh
1-2 teaspoons fresh truffle shavings
1 cup extra-virgin olive oil
1 sterilized pint jar with lid
Let it sit for about a week
that's how we make it
I personally always appreciate Anthony's culinary wisdom.
Only Anthony Bourdain could pretentiously brow-beat the pretentious.
I used to like him when he first started out , he seemed rather sincere and curious.

Do real kobe sliders really exist? There are tons of places claiming to have kobe, but there's very low amounts of real kobe imported to the US
