And a non-major orchestra. Playing purely for the love of music. Totally joyful. As a Long time professional I can promise that you will never love music as much as you do right now. Blessings to you all!

This is Stephen's wife, Libby writing this! Wilbur Lin...Thank you so much for this beautiful rendering..so musical, so sensitive, just the right speed, so that the music can breathe! so many recordings in this day and age play things MUCH too fast! It is one of my very favourite pieces, going back to my childhood, during the war, when I and my sister listened to Children's Hour on the BBC Home Service! Now it is Radio 4. Again, thank you.
Thank you so much, Libby! This means so much to me. I briefly studied in the UK which further stirred my interest in and love for Elgar's works. He is definitely a well known composer everywhere but a good portion of his masterpieces are still underperformed. I do aim to change that, and to do it right :)
But ‘utterly’ and supremely utterly…mind-taking and especially but especially to awake in the morning after a sublime session of kindness and generosity from a new and most beautiful of all my erstwhile girl friends….Oh but most sublime of all memories…And to be perfectly honest I probably had never heard or paid attention much to it had I perchance heard it at all…Oh but sheer puerile ignorance of youth and young years and paucity of wartime education….How much I do bless the memory of that young lady…
Reduces me to floods of tears as I believe it brings back memories of Children's Hour during the war...my father was away for 6 years! This is Libby Sheen, Stephen's wife...I don't think it has the same effect on him!
Mr. Everiss got it right. Unfortunately some people believe that just because a composer is not from the continent can't have the status and attributes as any other one; like this "Islander". He's superb, sweet, uncomplicated.
+John Everiss Isn't it? Elgar's music has the quality of any major late-Romantic work but the core of Mozartian simplicity. Please do check out my next video, working with the Cong Quartet, on Elgar's Introduction and Allegro. ua-cam.com/video/0gVHCLm5ZxQ/v-deo.html
An excellent performance and recording. I would have appreciated you telling the viewer, who---you are, where you are playing, and information about the orchestra.
Hi Philip! Thanks for your kind comments. Some details are in the video description. This was an "Ad Hoc" orchestra at the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music. As this is a 5-year-old video, most of our musicians in the video are now working professionally here in the US or around the world.
Thanks for the reply! Yes, I would’ve done that today. This was filmed when I was in graduate school, eating ramen for days to afford a single camera recording session so I can put this in my portfolio. :)

Moving piece of music. So proud that I live in Elgars home county of Worcestershire.
And beautiful your county is too, especially from the top of the Malvern Hills.
BEAUTIFUL. DO THEY STILL GROW WORCESTER PERMAIN APPLES ? I HAVEN'T SEEN THEM FOR YEARS

Sublime melody. The warmth of this piece surrounds me.
No words to describe how beautiful is this song

Utterly beautiful. Such a special depth of feeling in such a crowded field.
Isn't Elgar wonderful :)
@@WilburLin AMONG THE BEST, AND MOST POPULAR, BUT NOT SO APPRECIATED IN EUROPE I THINK

Sublime, wistful, tear-jerking , 'magical'!

Possibly my favourite piece of Elgar music outside of the Enigma variations
Me too! Yes!
I'm playing this on the French horn in December
Absolutely beautiful. Thank you all so much.
+tarquin45 Thanks for your kind comment :) Glad you enjoyed!

Anyone else notice 1:41 second seat at first desk did wrong bowing but recovered rather quickly
Are you listening to music or looking at the bowings instead?
@@asmith8815 perfectly fine to look at bowings especially if you're learning the piece
excellent
One of my favorites! Besides Enigma Nimrod
Perfect for the cold rain outside my window, and the lentil soup about to warm my bones!

@@WilburLin THANK YOU . I AM MUCH OBLIGED.
So here's an idea: maybe when the horns play, show them in the camera! Or at least have a shot of the complete orchestra :)
