Saleh is Gus Bradley 2.0. A nice guy who everyone likes, but he's a great DC not HC. Hackett is Gase 1.5. They only looked good when they were coaching one of the greatest QBs of all time. Rodgers isn't an MVP caliber QB anymore and his OC is not good enough to compensate for whatever he's lacking. Mainly mobility and scheming WRs open. Rather than relying purely on Rodgers' arm talent.
totally agree, but i think rodgers is still really good lol. maybe not mvp level but he’s definitely still a top 10 qb. if our defense can get back to being top 3 like last year then we fs got a shot
9-8 is par for the Jets... Don't expect more.... Rodgers is going to add 2 more wins compared to last season provided the defense shows up to play consistently....
People kinda forget the Jets had an incredible defensive season last year. It's not likely they'll replicate it. So while Rodgers is an upgrade on offense, you have to account for a likely drop off defensively, which will lead to the Jets being just above .500. That said, there's no shame in getting whooped by the 49ers. They're the clear cut favorite to win the NFC.
After hard knocks last year I, along with most other Jets fans, was all time high on the Jets and shit hit the fan 4 offensive snaps in. I don’t think I can get my emotions up that high again for this team unless they really show me something consistently (more than 1 good drive). Coaching is my #1 concern exactly bc of what Sean said. The adjustments just never come during the game. Defensive couldn’t stop the consistent scoring and offense needed to abandon the run early in that game. If you can’t adjust in game you’re not a playoff team. That being said I’m not worried about the Pats and think the Bills are missing the playoffs this year. The more wins the Pats have the worse draft pick they’ll get so I welcome the winning. Dolphins have that offense and defense seems better this year but they usually fall apart late in the season.
The Jets already have sole possession of last place. The problem for the Jets in the four seasons of the Saleh era is that they have wildly overrated the team and the coaches. Saleh, who is supposed to be a defensive whisperer, has never produced a Jets defense that can consistently stop the run. Last year the Jets were supposed to have a super bowl quality offense and after beating Buffalo in game 1, they went to Dallas and got their doors blown off. And the defense hardly got any stops along the way to a 7-10 season. Everyone blamed the QB, but the defense did nothing to win games last year. A super bowl defense should be a playoff team even with a weak offense. And, of course, the Jets offensive line always sucks. They got three new guys this year who were supposed to be light years better than the putrid o-lines of the previous three years. So, of course, they don't open a single hole for Hall to run through the entire game last night. There was an improvement in that Rodgers didn't get maimed after four snaps. And Rodgers didn't have to start running from the instant the ball was snapped like the past three seasons. That being said, Rodgers didn't have the luxury of sitting back there in his rocking chair waiting for his receivers to get wide open like Purdy or Stroud, for example, have. Pundits like you guys are actually going to have to stop taking the lazy way out and actually analyze why the Jets suck this year rather than knee-jerk (emphasis on the jerk) blame Zach Wilson for an entire team and coaching staff sucking.
2 things that kill a team are huge contracts for just an above average QB who gets hurt (not talking Rodgers, who was a good pickup and can handle NY environment) and young hot shot HC, whom management thinks will learn and evolve. Old coaches are assumed to be set in their ways and don't last as long. Saleh isn't even in the fire assistant coaches to put the blame on them phase. This experiment has a few years before resetting. They'll probably go 9-8, which is just good enough to give him another chance.
It's a New York team. Greeny over on ESPN would talk about them 24/7 even though the rest of us sane individuals could tell you that hinging your hopes on a QB that old coming off THAT injury would be foolish. Rodgers is now permanently immunized against winning.
They all wanted to pick against the niners this year for some reason and now they are looking at this loss in the context of their awful projections. 49ers are as good as it gets and you’d have to be a complete clown to pretend otherwise
I believe Saleh will get the defense right, his units for the past couple of seasons have played well. I’m not going to overreact because they looked bad against championship level team. The real issue is Hackett , he’s one of the worst OCs in the league.
Jets win 8 games at most. Rodgers will fake an injury when the going gets really bad in an attempt to take any responsibility off his shoulders. Can I bet that on FanDuel???
I know it was the 49ers and their schedule is pretty easy coming up so they should have some wins but I just dont trust that coaching staff at all so I think they are capped on what they can do.
Despite the roster turnover Sean rightly references, there should still be enough here to put a winning team on the field. It's time for this coaching staff to put up or shut up. I don't see them putting up though, and it'll be onto the next house cleaning. Saleh is by all accounts a good, friendly guy, a motivator and enough of a schemer to run a defense. But he's not a guy who should be in charge of running a whole program, which is only exacerbated by the Jets' perpetual lack of leadership and absentee ownership. The latter is why no one with any pedigree would come here to coach, so their only option is to catch lightning in a bottle with an up-and-comer. But that also doesn't work when there are 7-8 HC job openings every offseason; the Jet job is the worst in the league. I just hope that the next direction they go is different from basically the last nearly twenty years of Jet ball in which the rest of the league zigs with offensive minds and the Jets zag with defenders. They either hire a defense first regime (Rex, Bowles and now Saleh) and pair it with a highly drafted, unproven QB - Sanchez, Geno, Darnold and Wilson not to mention Petty or wasting a high pick on Hackenberg who never played a single snap - who's promptly handed the keys without any competition or even a backstop of a competent veteran and expect that type of regime to develop said QB. Or they bring in a former Green Bay QB to do whatever he wants, whether it's sending dick pics or "jetting" off to Egypt during minicamp. Please, just something different next year. Bring in Testaverde for a third time...something.
Gee, let me think.. did you get too excited about the Jets, a team with 4 division titles in their history, a team whose best QBs of all time are Joe Namath [legend, but check his stats], Testaverde, and Favre. Maybe Pennington, Ken O'Brien.. it's dark. Rodgers probably can't move anymore. Didn't look like it to me. They have 1 receiver, 1 running back. Not a lot, especially when one of the 3 or someone on the line inevitably get hurt. Plus, everything said about Saleh. He's charismatic, I'm sure they want to play hard for him, but there is zero evidence he has any clue how to coach offense or manage the game. I would be shocked if they won more than 8 or 9 games .. so yes, I would say you got too excited about a New York team. Shocker.
