    Awesome video Mark. Love your work.
    My father taught me to grow fruit and veg when I was a boy some 50 years ago and it became a hobby over the years. I have passed on the knowledge to my kids and they love growing food. We live in Sydney and have a very large backyard. Grow all we can eat and some. We are not fortunate to have a sub tropical climate but have a greenhouse to grow our tomatoes over winter.
    You are a great educator so don’t stop till you drop cause everyone should learn to grow food.

    One of your videos came up randomly while i was watching youtube/playing games.
    Been hooked ever since and I've never had any interest in gardening before.
    Even had a crack at growing basil from seed, had 5 in different pots about 10cm tall.
    Then I put some fertiliser on them and they all died from fertiliser burn hahaha ;(
    Learnt my lesson though, now I've got so much i can't eat it all ;D.
    Thanks Mark/Russel Crowe for sharing your knowledge and passion with everyone =)

    I grew up on a farm and collards were a staple in spring and fall. Our summers are to hot for most, if not all greens. We grew potatoes starting in Feb.and stored them packed in pine straw under the house and had potatoes through winter. I don't like collards myself, but would force myself to eat them, so my children would eat them.

    Nice cameo by the jumping spider on the camera lens at 24:20 :-D Also, only the aril (flesh) of the red-backed native ginger is palatable - the seeds are quite bitter. The best use of the plant is the rhizome, similar to standard, exotic ginger.

    Mark, if you want to stop having to use so much compost, and buying or having to make all that compost, start using species-dense cover crops over the winter in stead of making compost yourself. Cover crops will do it for you provided you plant the right mixes at the right time. And no, it is not a regenerative agriculture 3000+ hectare thing only, you can do it in raised garden beds too.

  • @jennamccleery2393
    @jennamccleery2393 4 роки тому

    Forget the compost piles. Keep trench composting. Add shredded paper too, the worms love it. If you have a manure the compost bins would be great to age the dung.

    I live in Lake City Florida. Yep, your video are sprinkled everywhere in the world. I’m glad because you have educated me a lot. I don’t use raised garden plots. I might at some point but for now I like tilling and hoeing my rows ‘keeps the weight down’. I’ve learned much about new plants, composting and stepping outside the box with respect to trying herbs and plants not normally grown in this part of the south, asparagus being the first experiment and I owe that to you and your channel. Hope for your continued success and again thank you.
