Absolutely fantastic video! You did it step by step and made it very clear to everyone what you were doing and how you
were doing it. One of the best instructional videos I have ever seen! You should get an award for this! Thank you so much!!!

Wow! this video saved me. I could NEVER have figured out how to do this without the excellent methodical approach to changing the springs. Many thanks.

Very well done video, thanks! I didn't remove the control panel or lower oven door, but I did pull the microwave out about an inch to get to the aforementioned "pesky screw" under the door. I had to play with the springs a little to get them to seat properly, but you'll know when they're right. Whole job took about an hour, but half that time was spent cleaning the greasy grime off the vent and inner door frame.

Same here. I left the control panel, upper vent and lower door and didn't have any issues except not paying more attention to how/where the hook side of the spring was when I removed it. Had to watch that part of the video over and over till I figured out my mistake.

YES YES YES! This was a great video, thank you very much for making it. On my repair, I didn't have to remove the panel at the top, nor did I have to slide the microwave out if it's installed enclosure. I could access all necessary screws to get the door off and replace the torsion springs easily. Thanks again!!! (the other spring part for this model is WP4452396. I got both springs on Amazon.

Your video is great. Not sure that I could have done it without the step-by-step video. Was able to replace a broken right hand torsion bar on my stainless combo. They took a shortcut on the SS model making one spring very stiff. Second time it has broken in 20 years.

Great video, thank you. I just replaced my torsion springs and also was able to do it without removing the control panel and pulling the microwave out, as some others here had mentioned as well.

Thank you. Replaced both springs. They can be a little tricky to fit in their place. I did the whole job with cleaning in about 30 minutes. Was able to do mine without removing control panel or pulling micro out. And now I know how I can clean the glass in the future.

Do you mind sharing how you removed the 2 screws on the bottom of the door trim? One of them is blocked from the metal vent of the oven below in mine.

Super Video my wife and I disassembled as shown. All screws could only be removed as per the video. Wish I could have run it in reverse to re assemble LOL but we figured it out and cleaned all the glasses even in the oven door. Thank you so very much, it was a great help.

I have a Whirlpool Gold combo woc95ecoas03- The door will shut, but when I put in the cool time it won’t run unless I hold the door closed tighter. Will replacing the door torsion spring most likely solve that problem?

Great video! I'm about to order the parts from you to replace the springs on my KEMC378KSS03. My unit has a chrome trim piece on either side that goes from just under the control panel to the bottom of the oven. In your video, that piece was not on the unit, so all of the screws were easily accessible from each side. How do you remove the chrome trim pieces? Thank you.

I'm wondering about the same thing... I'm guessing it just pulls straight off because there is no way to slide it up or down. Have you gotten up the courage to try pulling it off?

Each trim piece has a screw 4 inches from the bottom that is visible when the oven door is open.

Great instructions. However, was unable to get microwave to pull out of our KEMC308. We followed each and every step and also removed the 2 screws holding microwave at bottom. The left side will move some, but the right side seems to not give as if there is another screw or something holding in place on the right side. Anyone else run into this or know what may be preventing the microwave from being pulled out?

  • @mikemeechan5640

Just finished my replacement. I was also able to do it without removing the control panel and pulling the microwave out. I did remove the oven door just to get it out of the way and ease access to the screws that need to be removed on the bottom of the microwave. One TIP regarding removing the screw seemingly blocked by the vent: If you look in the vent there is a screw head protruding from the bottom. That screw is there to hold the vent in place horizontally...it is not tightened. If you lift up slightly on the vent the screw head will drop below the vent and you will be able to move the vent horizontally to the side to expose the difficult screw to reach. The entire job is kind of tedious but not difficult. Just pay attention to how the tension rods connect before you take the old ones out and take some photos of what they are supposed to look like after they are installed.

Are these the parts that make sure the door doesn't slam open (provide resistance)? Or is there an actual spring that allows the microwave door to open and close without slamming? Thanks

I was wondering the same but after seeing them replaced in the video, it dawned on me the "spring" action is achieved by twisting the 2 rods as the door is opened and closed.

  • @lawrencepines4346

Which torsion rod exactly is the "left" and which one is the "right"?
I think mine failed on the lower right corner, the rod that goes from lower right to upper left. Which one is that? I want to order the correct spring rod because the other one that goes from lower left to upper right looks fine.
    Thank you very much.

I have KitchenAid KEMC308KSS0 in stainless steel. What are the exact two part numbers I need to order for right and left torsion springs? The information I'm seeing is contradictory and says WP4451009 and WP4452395 are not to be used with the stainless steel models as they require a stronger spring.

Do all springs like these fail regularly? The ones on my Kitchenaid have failed every year or two and going on 10 years, all those springs really add up.

We've had ours 18 years. First time one broke was 3 years ago. Then just a week ago. It broke when my daughter was cleaning the inside of door when it was down. I think she was pushing hard on it. Perhaps when cleaning we should be holding the door slightly up with one hand so as not to put pressure on the springs.

DO NOT REMOVE THE LOWER OVEN DOOR!!!! Not only is it unnecessary, it is extremely difficult to reset the door back in. I spent more time on the lower oven door than the rest of the repair. And it is totally unnecessary.

I also did it without removing the microwave oven. The only problem is the left screw on the bottom of the door, which is above the rectangular vent. I took a 1/4 inch #2 phillips bit and ground it short and left just enough of the 1/4 hex to turn with a small 1/4 inch wrench, with the door open.
