I just received my evostar 72 , it will be mounted on my celestron sky prodigy mount , so long exposures not possible but I look forward to fast images of planets and large nearby object such as Orion and the 7 sisters ...love the quality and craftsmanship of the scope by the way ,
Thanks for sharing your processing techniques. I’ll pause the video to copy your settings. I tried photographing M 51 with a 200 mm camera lens, but it is a really small target.
Thanks I hope it was of some help. My settings are just for starters, you can modify for each image and take the time to refine as required. Yes, I guess 200mm is a little too small for M51, but great for M31 soon, Kr Ian
Thanks for sharing this interesting video, impressive results. I plan to buy the 72 ed but I'm wondering what would be the better camera to sample correctly. As I can see in your video it's fine to use a camera with pixel size of 4 micrometers? I'm interested in the asi 533 mc pro. Thanks very much
Very nice job thank you. Right up to presets on MultiscaleLinear transform. At that point, you had preset. need to let us in on your preset settings. I was unable to see your settings.
Robert thanks, have you tried pausing the video as I open each of the presets, you should be able to see the descending scale I use, if not let me know. Kr Ian
Wonderful photo: I have the same scope but I cannot remove the accessory holder as you did in order to screw the reducer... it is very hard and cannot unscrew: have you had the same problem the first time? How do you suggest me to proceed in order to successfully (and safely) remove it? Thank you
Hi Simon, on my Owl Nebula video I explained how I saw a Q&A on Nico Carva’s channel Nebula Photos where he said you can use dental floss across the telescope lens, so I tried and it work very well. Also Peter Zelinka recently showed you can now get some software that will add them too, so I might explore that next, Kr Ian
@@astrotimetraveller4622 Ah ok, didn't realise it was intentional - trying to work out how you did it all morning... Thanks will have to look into this
Great video and explanation of processing. Could you do all the processing in PI? I've been using PI exclusively for about a year... I've never used PS. Also, where did the diffraction spikes come from on the brighter stars?
Yes you can do all the processing in PI, I just sharpen up and colour mix, with white and black balances to make it look a bit better with PS. Diffraction spikes were from putting two lines of dental floss tight across the telescope lens, it works well. Though I’ve just bought StarSpikes 4 from ProDigital which is a PS add-on I’m afraid, but let’s you do amazing star spikes on any image. Kr Ian
Thanks Ollie, and good spot, yes filter draw a bit lose and even using the small screw distorts the image train so tape works, though I’m just moving to the ZWO EOS adaptor with filter draw, so that will cure this problem, Kr Ian
Awesome work! What scale Bortle is your sky? I have not been able to get decent images of M51. My set up is: Canon 80D -not modified-, Canon 400mm f 5.6 tele lens, light pollution filter, sky watcher star adevturer and auto-guidance system. The sky where I live is Bortle 7. What do you recommend? Better go to darker skies? The truth is that I do not know what I am doing wrong or in Bortle 7 skyes it is impossible to take high quality photos. Thanks and greetings from Mexico.
Hi Enrique, sorry for late reply, my Bortle is 5 in the south to 6 in the north, where London is. 400mm seems enough focal length, how long are you exposures? You probably need at least 3 to 5 minutes and ideally on a Moonless night. You might need a light pollution filter for an unmodified DSLR. Kind regards Ian
Amazing job and well organized processing steps. Will try that out! Thank you 😊
What an impressive image! Good video!
I found your channel by chance and subscribed right away, thanks for this great video.
Dan, many thanks, hope you enjoy, Kr Ian

How did you get diffraction spikes on the bright stars using a refractor? Glare on the filters perhaps?

I do it on some images but not all, you have to get the floss at exact cross over to make it look good.
