Oakland's Fairyland: A Theme Park for Children

- Children's Fairyland, an amusement park located right in downtown Oakland, Calif., has changed little in its 67 years. The park is full of storybook sets, rides, and live animals -- all explicitly for kids. Adults aren't even admitted without a child.

I remember this place from my childhood. It was fantastic :D
I went there all the time when I was a kid 30 years ago. Now that I have a daughter of my own, I can't wait to take her there too one day.

my fav ride was the ( I forgot the name of the ride ) dinosaur rollarcoaster
We walked to Fairyland from my grandmother's house on Sundays. I still have my Magic Key.

BEAUTIFUL, POIGNANT, LOVELY, PURE CLASS... We had StoryTown, FantasyLand in NY state, Fairytale Forest in PA!!!! Gingerbread Castle in NJ! I REMEMBER THEM WELL AND STILL CRY WHEN I SEE THEM- some abandoned which is a SIN, some still active but too 'modern and hyped up' I prefer 1969 and being in awe of it all as alittle child...
I came as a child and then with my kids and now with my grandkids. I loved it then and love it now!💕 They only thing I would update is all their Restrooms .

People get shot by stray bullets anywhere there are large groups of people in oakland. Any large gatherings in oakland you are rolling the dice by just being there.

Fairyland has lost $1.5M since April - summer is usually their biggest season. They innovated, putting content online and revising and scaling back things like their summer camps. They’re sitting on $100 million worth of land. I’m sure they can come up with some creative ideas
I went there in 1966. I was 6, my brother 5. He accidentally went through the exit gate. I was inside, he was outside. We held hands through the fence, both of us crying. Some guard let him back in and all was fine. But that’s my only real memory of the place.

I remember going and we had to purchase a green key to get things to interact.

i remember when they first added Jack and Jill sliding hill. i was like 5 or 6.
There shouldn't be Spanish on any of the signs.
