Always good to go back to plateless builds. As the hobby attracts more and more people, some of the classics aren't getting the recognition and love they used to have which is a real shame. Newcomers to this hobby should try to chase their own sound instead of building the same type of board all the time honestly. That said, it's oddly poppy in your plateless configuration? I've noticed the same kind of thing on my Tiger80 Lite on which I didn't put any foam on the PCB, yet it has a poppy type of sound that I can't get rid of... I'm not sure if that's due to the keyboard's design or the switches I'm using although they've got a POM bottom housing and a short stem.
I guess so. As you already know well, different designs and switches make sound different all the time. So nothing is clear to see the result when you build one.
The sound difference comes from the lack of PE & plate foam tho. Not that there obviously would be a sound difference also without foam but it wouldn't be day and night.
@@WalterBlacc thank you very much! I'm very new to the custom keyboard community and I don't know a lot of things. I wanna own one of these amazing keyboards one day.
Solder you can do plateless, on other boards solder PCB has more customization because you can choose your layout while Hotswap usually has a fixed layout, meaning you can only use one. The Arc in this video can use multiple layouts on the Hotswap PCB but cannot support 6.25u bottom row and Iso (I think) and it also cannot support plateless
@@hirohiwo yeah it quite literally "sounds" immaculate. It doesn't have that metal-like sound that you get from the plate itself. It all comes down to personal preference

I have a question that is maybe innocent but why would you want a soldered pcb when you can get a hot swap one ?
Is there any interest ?
Solder PCB usually offers more layout support, plateless option, and sometimes a little more solid build
