I started learning drums when I was around 8 or 9. I am now 12, almost 13 and I love drumming so much, when I come home from a stressful day its soo good to take your anger out through drumming - its an amazing outlet, transforming built up negative emotion into cool sounds. I gotta hand it to my first drumming teacher: Gareth Hughes. He was so damn cool. I learned so much from him and in quarantine there’s so much spare time so I can play the drums a lot more now! I just wanna say that your channel is really neat. Keep up the cool vids man!

I discovered Blake Richardson from them, and he is absolutely amazing! Also when I was younger I listened to a lot of Atreyu(drummer Brandon Saller), The Devil Wears Prada(drummer Daniel Williams), and All that Remains(drummer Jason Costa). All very awesome drummers that helped me along my journey with drums.

For the moment I would say my 2 drum teachers I had this far. Playing for a bit more than a year in total now. And I basically only practice technique and rudiments. I am now beginning to pay attention to Tommy Igoe, Stuart Copeland.... I love anything Drum Corps and I am inspired by the creativity and talent of Eric Carr from EMC Productions. I love Casey Cooper’s energy and pure joy. I love Senri Kawaguchi and many of the girls out there...Oh yeah! Dorothea Taylor is another great inspiration! So when i was a kid, he came to our small music school. He was not that famous at the time, so he was performing for free. It was very quiet when he played. All kids where just listening. After that, he answered every question and was so kind at all.
A few weeks later i started drumming.

But I was not good enough to really make use of his comments/playing. I felt I was 6 years old and talking to Plato. All the best. Owen Brown - Australia

I worked at Memphis Drum Shop for a 3 and a half year period and had the pleasure of meeting some great drummers. Got to meet Aaron Gillespie when he was touring with paramore. He sat down in the cymbal vault to try some Istanbul cymbals and the power that came out was wild to see from a 10 foot distance. He was super kind and even took a photo with me. I also got the chance to meet Benny Greb at a clinic he did at the drum shop and he was so kind and he put on a show that has stuck with me and how I approach my playing. Gabe if you ever have a chance after the pandemic to see Memphis Drum Shop, do it. They’ll bring you in and show you around and have you do some My Cymbal videos which are super fun to do and also you may get to play some Pearl kits for the site as well. Cheers!

Holy crap, Gabe. Such sick playing man! My biggest influence was Cobus Potgieter when I was a teenager. It blew my mind at how good I thought he was at the time. Huge influences now would be Larnell Lewis, Benny Greb, Lenny 'The Ox" Reece and all the UA-cam guys! So you, Adam Tuminaro, Juan Carlito Mendoza etc

Well, 99.9% it's about you, your dedication, will power and your determination. Even if you don't have any influence it's fine. But, your dedication to your craft is the material which will take you to next level of drumming. I love you Gabe, you're ridiculously awesome 🤘long live I prevail

    My influences are
Lars Ulrich, stamina and he is why I am a drummer today.
The rev, besides skill and speed, he is why I got back I to it after a break. He reinvigorated me.
Neal peart. For overall skill and composition.
Stewart Copeland for technical and creativity.
Travis Barker for the obvious speed and precision.
    Finally, myself. For longevity:)

    Keith Moon (The Who)
    - Play with the band, his playing just fit the music so well.
    - Listening to him made the drums seem fun to play.
    Dave Lombardo (Slayer)
    - Groove, every song has a groove and feel. Got to keep even the longest songs interesting, engaging and dynamic.
    Travis Barker (Blink-182)
    - Energy, audibly and visually
    - Creativity
    Sunny Jung (local drum legend)
    - Taught me to play as simple as possible, it’s better to nail something easy than to fail in over complicating and disrupt the song. Most people won’t know the difference if you play a part slightly different than the original
    - Taught me to play with power, confidence and to be a professional.
    Gabe Helguera
    - I’m currently waiting for DBO Academy to open. Watched a lot of his videos, so helpful in my progression and growth as a drummer.

Louie Weaver was a huge influence of mine early on and still is today. I bought my first drum set on Jan. 21, 1984 and saw Petra live for the first time 2 weeks later on Feb. 4, 1984 on the Not of this World tour in Tulsa, OK. I lived in Oklahoma City and they played 2 concerts the same night in March of 1984, which I attended both. My all time favorite song by Petra to this day, is still Blinded Eyes. I love that guitar riff. They played it in Tulsa but not in OKC. Oh well, at least I heard it live once. I got to meet Louie and talk to him on 3 separate occasions. He was always a cool dude.
When Petra reunited back in 2013 or 14, I drove down to to Dallas, Tx. and saw them play at a church. It was Greg Volz, Bob Hartman, Mark Kelly, John Lawry, and Louie Weaver..
They sounded every bit as good as they did in the early Eighties. Greg Volz's voice was as good as it ever was. They were just as good in that Church as they were in an 18,000 seat arena. There were about 400 people there, most over the age of 40. After the show, all 5 guys were at the autograph table signing autographs. They all seemed grateful that after all these years, fans would still come out and here them play. They were all a class act, on stage and off. And Yes, Louie was wearing a Mickey Mouse tank top. I wore a Mickey Mouse T-Shirt so he would know I was a drummer and a fan. After all these years, I'm still a drummer and a BIG fan of Mr. Louie Weaver.
