Points aside, that play should've been blown down. Anyone who says otherwise is looking at it from a points standpoint and like Bedsy said, if player safety is number 1, then it needs to be number 1 and there needs to be consistency and accountability from the league.
The 2 refs are a joke. Why don't the refs have a postgame interview. I would love to know why goalies are different than other players. It's definitely about Player Safety for all the players. This was the same as the Calvert injury a few years back. Calvert injury was a game against Vancouver. Bednar cussing was classic. I would be surprised if the League doesn't fine Bednar.
I was telling my sister right after this happened that Bednar should come out pissed off like this and call out the refs for this one. She didn't think he would because he's so reserved normally. I told her it would be worth it on this one, fines be damned. Glad he did...Cussing and all.
diehard Stars fan so lord knows i don't like the Avs. but he's absolutely right, this was a matter of player safety. if the rule states that Colorado needs possession before the refs can whistle the play dead, then change the rule. especially considering that this was a serious injury that means Wedge is gonna miss games
That's the biggest issue in this league, inconsistent calls. No one can ever assume how a call maybe made as it changes constantly. This part of the league is ridiculous.
"This isn't against the 2 refs tonight" - continues to go a absolute rant about the 2 refs tonight. Classic bedsy not wanting to be fined. He should have doubled down
Basing that conclusion on one isolated incident seems odd. An NFL refs will legitimately control the outcome of a game in front of millions of people so be thankful NHL refs are nowhere near the incompetence level the NFL is.
We need more coaches to call out these horrible refs. I have no idea what Bodnar is talking about here. But I thought 2 other coaches were going to comment about how horrible their refs were last night. Too many people scared to speak out because of the power the gambling has over the officials.
He's right, a player will get a puck to the face and blow it dead immediately even without considering possession. It was insane sitting there watching Wedgewood grabbing his knee rolling around in net with the ref literally standing over him looking at him. The point on a hard shot being set up for that was my concern when it was happening. Ridiculous.

@@michaelsholtz6913 This one isn't about who won or lost. The league that implements all these rules for player safety can't blow a play dead when the goalie is obviously hurt and the puck goes in the corner so there is no imminent scoring threat?
Colorado didn’t have possession, there for no whistle. If we change the rule, goalies will start acting injured to blow the play dead. Not that hard to figure out. It just takes a little critical thinking and this guy doesn’t have it.
I think Bednar is right here, but the Av's player definitely knocked the Sabre into the goaltender. The ref didn't blow the whistle and only after the goal was scored, did I see the goalie not moving from out of the net. Bednar's position and viewpoint were much different than the TV angle.
Even Bednar said the guy was pushed in. The problem isn't what caused the injury, the problem was the guy was down and injured, the puck went into the corner so no imminent scoring chance so they should have blown it dead. No excuse for them not doing so.
Yeah don’t know what you’re talking about. On tv he’s instantly down curled in a ball. There was 5-10 seconds from the injury to the goal for a whistle. I don’t think anyone is saying interference. It was a down injured player
@@cgatesgates6631 I can see the referee in the frame standing behind the net. The referee was watching the play because IF you were watching, the referee JUMPS onto the back of the net because the Buffalo player had the puck and was coming around the back of the net for the wraparound, so I KNOW where the one referee's eyes were looking, and it wasn't inside the net!!! I actually agree with Bednar that the goal should have been disallowed - but sometimes the breaks don't go your way.
Coach doesn’t know the rules. The applicable rule is 8.1, which states: "When a player is injured so that he cannot continue to play or go to his bench, the play shall not be stopped until the injured player’s team has secured control of the puck. If the player’s team is in control of the puck at the time of injury, play shall be stopped immediately unless his team is in a scoring position."

@Boots27J No one is saying Kardi is a clean player and damn every good team in the league has a player like Kardi for sure. But the goalie he got under the skin the most was Billington who had a bit of Billy Smith reputation. Not everyone on a Stanley Cup roster is going to be a choir boy.
