When it comes to office mouse, Logitech has this game nailed. There has been numerous great mice for decades now evolving with the changing time. The M720 is one such example of slight change, slight modification from the previous model, the M705.

One of the best product reviews I have ever seen. Thanks for the concise, detailed info. (Keep in mind: I rarely complement here as not to feed the narcissism).
First of all thanks for your comment. People's compliments encourages me to make the next video, and do an even better job at that. As for my narcissism, tough one, I dearly hope that I do not come across as one, the idea is to make videos about the product not featuring me, I do not want to be the star of the video. Though, a narcissist can not tell if he/she is being so, therefore, if I have come across as one, EVER, I offer my apologies, as that is one attribute I do not want to attach to myself.
I hope you will drop by in my next video, I'll do more to bring humility in the videos, and I hope you would let me know if I didn't. Thanks, Keep well.
@@CyberCatTechnologies Ha! this is rich. You thought I was talking about you. OP here = online/YT. I was not talking about you (this being the first of your videos I have seen). I was referring to the general trend of self-absorption social media encourages. Well, unlike me, the most brilliant and humble person (or rather Duck) to ever live!, you have certainly succumbed to self-importance, but being aware of the danger, yours is slight. Seriously, I clearly know very little about you, but given your review and reply, you have a keen sense for detail and thoughtful mind. If I need more tech reviews, I will look HERE first.
I have both the M705 and the M720 and I think the M720 feels much better built than the M705, plus the newer optical sensor in the M720 tracks much better and has a better sensor placement. With the M705, I never feel like it goes where I want and the laser sensor has issues tracking at very low speeds. I believe the newer M705s now use an optical sensor though so I may give another one a try later. The clicks on my M705 also have a ton of pre and post travel and rattle to them. There is a huge gap between the triggers and the actual switch and it makes it feel a bit cheap. The M720 is also more comfortable to me, personally. The M705 cramps my hand after a while because it forces me to claw grip it whereas the M720 is better suited toward a relaxed palm grip. My 2 cents at least. :) Great review/comparison!
Which one of the two would you recommend buying?
@@colin6711 i prefer the performance and click feel of the M720 but the M705 has a better shape for me personally. I do not really use either of them very much since I find them a bit heavy for extensive work usage that involves a lot of movement.
@@TheThirdeYe1337 i see. thanks for your feedback
Problem is that m705 isnt the same quality as it was at the beginning. Logitech decided to reduce its quality and release more expensive m720. It does have different shape.
I really wanted to like the M720, but the height/stack in the palm area made it a no go for me. M705 is more comfortable in my hands, the curves of the M705 are perfect for my hand. I returned the M720 for a back up M705.
Great review. Very thorough. I appreciate a lot of the points you covered. I have had two of the Marathon mice, and am looking at getting a Triathlon for home - quite excited now after watching your review/comparison.
Thanks..
@@CyberCatTechnologies Purchased it about 4 hours ago and have just set it up. Definitely an improvement over the marathon mouse.
I have many mice and really love the M720. For me it lasted about 6 months on a single battery.
Some people complained about M705 scrollwheel that it's a bit finicky to click middle button and you end up accidentally clicking side tilt buttons. Have they fixed it on M720?
Thanks for the review
Hey dude what s up. This is a good review
Thanks.
Why is always a video that is exactly what I’m looking for?
One important question that does not appear in the video (or others): what about the sound / noise, in particular when clicking? I have the MX Master, and the sound is a little bit annoying.
How reliable is the bluetooth connection over time?
Great review
Excellent review. I am considering purchasing this mouse along with the Logitech K780 wireless keyboard. Will I be able to just use ONE USB receiver to operate both or will I need to have one for each device?
Both K780 and M720 can connect via Logitech's Unifying receiver. So the short answer is yes, one receiver with connect to both (or more should you be inclined to do so).
Next thing I was just curious (just wondering) was there a reason for not considering MK850, it comes bundled with the same mouse and the keyboard is multi-device as well. Just not same physical shape as the K720. But the bundle could save you some money.
@@CyberCatTechnologies Thanks for the reply. Firstly, thanks for the info on linking the two devices with one receiver (will this be automatic or do I have to install software to pair them?) Secondly, my reason for choosing the K780 wth the M720 is mainly for a) size (I need it to be as small as a full size keyboard can be) and appearance - the K780 is a much better looking machine and also has the slot for a tablet and phone. As for the price....here (Amazon UK) I can get the K780 and M720 for just £3 more than the combo you suggested so cost isn't an issue. I had looked at the MK850 but there is very little differnce if any and for home use it is much better for me to have the smaller, nicer unit!! Thanks for taking the time to reply
First question - If you buy a combo, out of the box they both work. I have never had to pair the receiver to the device out of the box, ever. However, for two devices, yes, you will have to pair using the Logitech options software. So if you use the receiver from the mouse then pair keyboard or the other way around. Not a complex process, and the software is rather simple to use, and it pairs easier than Bluetooth (because it picks up Logitech devices only).
With regards to the price, I did not know the UK story. Here in Australia, the two purchased separately will cause some price gap, so thought there was room for savings.
I agree that the K780 looks nice, I was considering it for a while, but got the Mx Keys instead. Video on that to come shortly :)
It does appear that you have done your homework well. Go for it mate, the Logitech brand is easy to recommend, be it at a cost their products are popular for good reasons.
All the best.
@@CyberCatTechnologies Many thanks - I've downloaded the pairing software and it look simple to use. Thanks again
One key comment: at 5:44, it is stated that "each button can be customized". Having the MX Master, the most used buttons (left and right clicks) are unfortunately and unexplainably not customizable (using Logitech's software, which is the only one discussed in this video). It is the same here (we can see that on the software, where no circle is dedicated to these buttons, unlike the other parts). So not all buttons can be customized, sadly. (Being on macOS, I only use SteerMouse which is excellent and far better than Logitech's own software.)
@not a potato Indeed, I edited my comment to reflect that. (Which app were you thinking of?)
@not a potato ? My initial comment referred to the app (Logitech Options) which can be downloaded on Logitech website. So which app are you referring to exactly (name)? The one described in this video and referred to by Logitech to be used for customization (Logitech Options) has no such capability. Even when going to the web page of the flagship and latest mouse (MX mouse), this functionality does not exist.
@not a potato The app (Logitech Options) does not allow the customization of these buttons (right and left clicks), as can be seen in this video and the Logitech web site (going on the MX mouse page for example). Customizable buttons / wheels are shown in the app with a white circle, so they can be selected and customized. This is not the case of the left and right clicks. Can you confirm you can for example customize the right click button with a double click or a CMD click (and if so, which mouse / app version do you have)?
@not a potato That's my whole point since the beginning... (So why did you say you could?) So contrarily to what is stated in this video and on Logitech web site, this mouse (like other Logitech mice) is NOT fully customizable (using the Logitech app).
Big up 🖤🖤
You say the new version of the mouse is a “hit”, will stand the test of time, and you like all the features except that you feel the materials are less premium. You reflect on how other Logitech products have exceeded the advertised battery life. Then you complain that they didn’t lower the price! Companies set prices based on many things but one basis for pricing is value. If the value to the customer is high, then the product commands a higher price. Pricing is also set relatively to the competition. The product may have a high value to the customer but if the competition has a lower price for similar value, then they won’t charge too high. Otherwise customers will go to the competition. The company will also consider the cost of goods sold (COGS) but they won’t say “Our COGS are lower on this product, so let’s charge less.” My friend, Logitech is in business to make money. I think the price is fair for the value delivered. Your video says the same. You obviously thought the price was fair or you wouldn’t have bought it. Everyone would like a lower price on everything (except what their companies sell of course). I don’t think it is a logical criticism.
Few points to note. I buy things, but often not as a standard consumer, I have acquired many things just for purpose of reviewing only and then given it away. Second thing is, your theory of economics is sound, by the text book, price is set at the junction point of supply and demand. Issue is some how price gauging got justified in the mix. Your words can be applied to something like insulin. What is it worth the someone? I agree again, this criticism is not unique to Logitech, a lot of companies set their prices taking into various other factors other than COGS. Take Supreme for example, or anything that comes out of Foxconn factories for that matter. I am powerless to change any globally established business practice, but that does not mean I have to like it or condone it. As a reviewer I am sympathetic to the cause of the consumer and profitability of corporations and their share prices is therefore a lesser concern. As I said in the video, if something could have been sold for less, it should have been.
@@CyberCatTechnologies I bought the mouse for $25 at Office Depot today for $25. It was the same price at Best Buy. Same on Amazon. This is in the US. If price-gouging is involved, I would be surprised. Seems like a fair price. As for your analogy to insulin, all I can say is that the free market is what gave us computers, mice, etc. at prices that mere humans can afford. Drug costs are a more complicated story but even for that, if drug companies couldn't make a profit who knows how many more deaths and serious (or even minor) illnesses there would be.
I disagree with "if it could be sold for less, then it should have been." There are many brands of mice out there, including ones that are cheaper. Don't like Logitech's price - buy something else. Why is Logitech still #1? I say it's because they have innovated over the years, they have excellent products, and their prices are reasonable in the marketplace. Consumers have voted with their wallets - the truest test of fairness there is.
Drug prices are a massive issue, so much so that there are legislation being proposed to bring profiteering under control. I am not in US so I do not know the full extent of how thing are there. Here in Australia, our health care system is different and we can access medical services when needed without fear of facing a bill. You mentioned that if drug companies could not profit there may be more deaths. This statement is incredibly reckless, you probably did not see it that way, there are countless deaths that could have been prevented. Don't take my word for it, look up the treatment for Hep C, how they denied and subsequently let people die. A 12 week course would cost $84,000 at the beginning. But this is one example of many, lets not under any circumstance try to justify preventable human suffering. If cure was not available at all, that is one thing, but blocking treatment because it effects margins is immoral to put is very politely.
There is no choice here at all, one patent, its pharmaceutical company sets the price, and system protects that. Would you kindly look at some examples yourself or do I need to point the very many examples that exists today.
The concept of dollar voting has its bag of criticisms, and its effectiveness is questionable. You claimed it to be "the truest test of fairness there is", let us act like intellectuals, please substantiate that statement with a credible study, something that has gone through a peer review process. I'd like to change my point of view, provided there is reliable study, facts and figures backing the idea.
What you probably meant was the in this case Logitech has the largest market share. This can be attributed to effective marketing and business strategy, along with product quality and innovations. If dollar voting worked certain oil company would have gone broke.
Any how, long story short, as I mentioned in the first reply, I do not have the influence to change how the world works. There are a lot of good economic models that would be far more efficient, but they have not made it out of the pages of the books that are collecting dust somewhere. As things remain, there are aspects of capitalism I do not like, but can not escape it either. My thoughts remain (specially for medication), if something could have been cheaper should have been, I dream of an ideal world.
Which one would you recommend buying either m720 or m705? I’ll be using especially for 3D modeling like cad, sketch up, revit and so on
Feel free to suggest🙌
The video contained the answer for you. Is there any real reason why M705 should even be in your consideration?
Why do rechargeable mice last so much less than mice with batteries? Of also why are other mice with batteries like the Razer Click Mini Pro which lasts around 100 days with 2 batteries?
That's Logitech's development..
I don't get the thumbnail with the "Logitech G" logo. Misleading
To have Logitech logo on a review of Logitech product, what is there not to get.
@@CyberCatTechnologies maybe you don't get it. "Logitech G" is their gaming line. This mouse is not a "Logitech G" mouse and is definitely not for gaming. Therefore it is misleading
@not a potato that doesn't make it a Logitech g product and it isn't okay for gaming. I have this mouse and it's complete shit for games.
@not a potato I don't get why you are defending this dude for clickbaiting his videos. It isn't a mouse built for gaming and nor is it a Logitech G product
@not a potato accusing you? Im not accusing you of shit. Stop acting like the victim when you are the one defending a liar and a click baiter. Fuck off
I recently bought the MX Anywhere 2 and I like it however it's giving me RSI, especially when middle clicking (what I set my top button to do). I had previously borrowed my brother's MX Master 2 and this did not give me RSI however I disliked the bit on the left which sticks out, I kept hitting it against my keyboard by mistake. Even though I have little hands I think it's the tiny size of the MX Anywhere that is causing the issue.
Is the Triathlon the closest mouse to a larger MX Anywhere 2/MX Master 2 with no sticking out left edge?
Thank you!
See a health care professional before any issue becomes chronic.
@@CyberCatTechnologies thanks, there was a posture/computer hardware professional who came around to my previous workplace but it wasn't very useful. :( I've tried vertical mice but I wouldn't want to use one all of the time.
Would you say that the triathlon the best/closest thing to a larger version of the mx anywhere? Thanks!
Hi bro. Is this mouse good for FPS games like call of duty?
You can use them for gaming, no issues there. If you would like to customize some of the buttons for macro even that can be possible.. though, two things to keep in mind, this is not a laser mouse and its not very high DPI. If these two things don't bother you then have at it, latency is not an issue.
i just brought a logitech triathlon m720 mouse from bestbuy, and apparently my bluetooh mouse will disconnects every now and then, did you experience similar issue or is it just my device?
I do
I got the triathlon mouse but the cursor movement on my Mac doesn’t feel smooth. It sometimes drag. Does anyone have this experience? I have tried using the dongle alone but doesn’t help much.
how is it with slightly larger hands (8 inches)
Look at these hands, I guarantee you there is no problem. ..
Lol couldnt resist. Its difficult to say, best go to any of the office supply store or something where they have it in display. I can say things about functionality, but could not say much about how it is fit your hand as that is very personal.
They make the bottom white because they want the style to match up with k780 keyboard
Though the outline doesn't really match I would say.
And that matches which one in return? 😂😁
Hola!
Llevo un tiempo viendo tus vídeos y he pensado que quizá te podría hacerte las miniaturas y ser tu diseñodor, te interesa?
I HATE rubber finish. It wears out fast or becomes sticky in a few years. I don't know about others, but the position where my thumb touches especially wears out and makes hole. It begins to make a mark there even a few days of usage. If Logitech really cared about the environment, as most big Western companies pretend to do, they should have sold replacement rubber, but oh no, they don't, so you either endure the uncomfortable feeling or buy a new one, even though the mouse is working fine (of course, their buttons start to malfunction in a year or two, too, to force you to buy a new one, but I can solve this problem by soldering a new switch).
The review unit I have shown, after so many years of super heavy use is chugging along perfectly. The rubber finish is ok as well.
Excellent review. Sorry, for me, the background music was distracting and unsettling, like jazz music searching for a theme. Not worthy music far a top tier review. Thank you.
Worst review. scroll on m720 doesn't support do side scrolling and he said both has same function. went on and on about how it feels on the hand
is it possible to use software from triathlon mouse for marathon? i mean all this gesture stuff that is available for 720?
When you install the software, the software knows the mouse it is paired with. So the software will know its a Marathon mouse. However, I am of the opinion the thumb button should be able to do gestures.
The 705 has 3 side buttons. The thumb rest is a button.
Watch the video start to finish before you start speaking...
Just bought myself one on sale at Best Buy for $25
Its $9 now for some reason!
@@henrychinaski Thanks... You what that means: price match time lol. And I'll probably buy another one lol
@@henrychinaski Wrong mouse buddy. I just left Best Buy and the mouse they had on sale at $9 was the M325 so get your facts straight. The mouse I bought is still $25.
That is what I was thinking too.. if it was $9, people would just buy a bunch and sell it off on eBay for $19 and make some on the side.. lol
So I touch the mouse and I don't go to Heaven? Not sure I want it then haha
this mouse, if you touch it you may go online. To go to heaven touch a different mouse...
All jokes aside, great content my friend!
