Naw Ethiopia most definitely has some deep-seated issues they are in denial about and the rest of us should stop holding them up as a beacon of African Hope. GoBlack should have asked about the term Bariya, a slur used by light skinned Ethiopians to the darker ones, meaning Slave. Their culture almost mirrors that of India in some ways - Ethiopians had domestic slavery till about 80 years ago, they have a superiority complex in part due to them (at least their skulls) once being classified as cauc asian, they have horrible levels of colourism, and there's always a civil war going on.
Way back in the day I had a friend from Eritrea who had a friend also from there and she was infactuated with a guy from Sierra Leon - unfortunately for her, he didn't feel the same way. One time she got so upset about the situation she went up to him and said amongst other things, 'You're a negro, unlike me!'
No country is perfect but not one of the people GoBlack interviewed has been honest or self-reflective about their history and culture. Very disappointing when we are all seeking more understanding not more confusion.

@@risenshine888 @RiseNshinE You're right to some extent, I've been subjected to dark skin jokes growing up here. Few in the city areas use the word bariya/baricho jokingly and sometimes as endearment. But I've been to the states and seen the same dark skin jokes from black people. I'm back in Ethiopia now and it seems to be getting better. The most famous song here is "Black Man"/Tikur Sew by Teddy Afro. Ethiopia is doing better than others in my opinion. Also brother when Abram's name was changed it was ironically changed to Abra-ham and what few people understand is that Abraham doesnt just plainly mean father of many nations but yet more specifically it means Father of a multitude. Which multitude, the merged multitude of both hamite and Shemite peoples. Which is why in genesis chapter 10 where the ashkenazi jews are recognized to be decendants of ashkenaz making them gentiles, when you read further in the chapter it never calls either hamites or shemites gentile, but the chapter does identify the japhetic line of people as gentiles according to verse 5. So then if the shemites and hamites were never considered gentiles and Abram's name was changed by God to Abra-ham that would mean the multitude God was refering to were of the combination of shemites and hamites. I understand it from his perspective. The problem is he doesn't realize that the European's depiction has been spread worldwide. Tourists will come there and will be surprised to see them all black. If you start placing these all over, its becomes about making them comfortable. Why do they need to feel comfortable? I would not send false paintings of a black buddha to Thailand. Whether it makes me feel comfortable or not to me it borders on disrespectful. How is it ok to send this to a country that already has there own, which was there BEFORE the change. It its not about color then they should be ok with what's there and leave it at that.
In addition, what if another mausoleum is built are they going to incorporate these new images as a permanent fixture? So if by some twist of fate the older mausoleums are gone and we only have this one left. Then let the agenda pushing folks say this is proof of white Jesus and since it doesn't matter to the Ethiopians. They can then say why don't we just remove the black ones for the sake of consistency.
I know I am reaching a bit, but I am getting tired of all this spin.

I'm Nigerian raised, U.S. based, and there is a contextual gap neither of you is able to bridge even though it is a very high level of conversation. Although GoBlack sees the contextual gap better he's not able to identify it. Here's the gap: when you grow up where most of your norms reflect/represent you, because everybody looks like you, then colonially influenced motifs are an exception to your experience (and is your choice to accept/reject) so you don't view them as so important or a threat. It's just a different world view, and really the more prevalent one which is why you'll find similar attitudes across Asia and latin America. For the most part, no African (other than in SA) who passes a "white" Jesus statue in Africa thinks twice about it, and frankly if you came and painted it brown with a broad nose, you'd still get a shrug. What GoBlack needs to do in his chats is center the issue within HIS reality in America, because an intellectual African who has not been to the West will filter it better in that context.

They need to stop this idea that the color of skin didn’t play an important factor. Even the Greeks wanted to iconography the Hebrews. So this white Jesus is used as a tool to do just what this man’s mind is doing to him today. The sad thing is that he has no need to subject himself to a white Jesus because there was no slavery for them and white Jesus was not forced down their throat.

God is a spirit. No one can convince me Jesus is white so that white is powerful! Absolutely not. I understand the Black concerns because of what they went through has so much to do with their perspective about everything including spirituality. It’s not healthy to focus or emphasize on Color in everything we see or feel. These mindset needs to be changed otherwise it will destroy your confidence. We are not less or more of any white race. We believe in ourselves and our roots. I believe all these conflicts caused by Slavery… what African Americans went through is unimaginable!and evil! Yet we really not to focus on the past and focus and deal with the present. Otherwise the new generation will be bitter and angry. Which is what we see. There is no White power or Black power.

Somebody knows about it, and they are trying to change the script. They know if this true knowledge were to get known by the masses of African people and its descendents, it would blow the lid off what we know today. We need the Horn of Africa to reset their minds. Because how the Ethiopians, Somalians, and Eritreans also goes the rest of the African existence. We as black people are usually the ones that make exceptions and allowances. Black Jesus in front of the sun is still European.. Anything with Jesus is European. Jesus being white or black does not matter when the European introduced you to Jesus and authored all of Jesus literature. Black Jesus and Black Santa play on the same team as White Jesus and White Santa.

It is because of European racist lies that Emperor Haile Selassie is said to be the reincarnation of the Christ. He also addressed the issue of racism in a speech which Bob Marley made popular in a song called War.

Just like Cain and Abel. When TMH asked Cain about the whereabouts of his Brother Abel (Note: after he had murdered him), he didn't CARE. He smugly said, 'am I my brother's keeper?' There is a deep lack of love and care (let alone color), amongst black people that has existed for a very long time...

Unless I missed this teaching in history class, Ethiopians have not been colonized, or in anyone's bondage or slavery - therefore they (mostly) will not identify with what you are saying. At all. They are not of any of Jacob's tribes. Please let me know if I don't have all the truth, Family.

Interesting pattern with interviewing several Ethiopians...
Appears that many do not relate with African Americans as much as they relate with non-African Whites.
There appears to be the belief that the notion of white superiority appears to be a "problem" for only African Americans and that white superiority is not a problem in many African countries and Caribbean countries such as Bahamas, Bermuda, etc. etc.
Hence, they will see absolutely nothing wrong with the portrayal of Jesus as White and may actually be ashamed of portraying Jesus as Black.
They will think that there is nothing wrong with the fact that non-Blacks own and control the majority of businesses.

Who was Jesus born to who now has became color does not matter. Maybe these people don't study history and colonization

African Americans are trapped in color. In Africa no one is thinking about color. Chimamanda Ngozi Adchie a popular Nigerian writer said that she came to know that she is black in America. The explanation of the Ethiopian in the video is very clear, but Goblack2Africa does not get! I am not sure whether those donated images will change the perspective of the ordinary Ethiopians. By the way Christianity is dying in America. I saw a church closing last year in America after operating for 100 years. I see some church empty every week with few seats filled old people. Young white Americans are coming to understand that they have lied to in the churches and that Christianity has nothing to do with them.

My observation of any group or person that says color doesn’t matter is that the colors do not change. I have not seen Biblical pictures where everyone was black with a few white servants here and there. Or everyone was Indian. Or everyone was Chinese. If color doesn’t matter why isn’t it ever randomly represented…consistently…every time?

i definitely respect his perspective. We grew up in two different world systems and they may not understand white supremacy. I would say that maybe the color only matters in determining end time events concerning the israel by flesh which we know are the african diaspora. Romans 11:11-15 being an example. However we know the true israel and true sons of Abraham are by belief and faith.
