M2M was dropped by their label Atlantic Records on September, 2002 and I remember Marion stated in her blog the reason why Atlantic pulled the plug. She said their 2nd and last album "The Big Room" wasn't as successful as "Shades Of Purple." After revealing their album's lack of sales, fans of M2M was devastated and the rumor of M2M's break up has been going around for weeks because rumor has it, Atlantic had shown a great deal of interest on Marion but not on Mairt. Months later M2M announced their break up because Marion was offered a $1,000,000 recording contract by Atlantic records and she gladly accepted it. Leaving Marit behind, fans of M2M called Marion selfish because of how she betray her bestfriend for fame and money. Regardless of Marion's attitude towards Marit, Marit kept trying to reconcile her friendship with Marion but Marion ignored her for years. Clearly, Marit felt betrayed by Marion and years later Marit decided to record her own album and her first track was a song about Marion which is "Don't Save Me." A song about betrayal. Ok, my english probably sucks (At least when I am complaining of movies that's not the case here) but I just saw Don't save me and this back to back and yeah they pretty much have a code that probably only the other half of M2M can fully decode but it might be there, there's a moment in Dont' save me with a young woman in the piano (clear brunetter tho) and here Marion goes crazy on the piano, both songs feature kids heavily in the videos, that's pretty obvious, there's a moment where an older brunette appears here, which probably keeps the theme "It doesn't get better". Now I am not saying that everything in Don't save me video has to do with Marion just the piano girl, it is relevant however that Don't Save me is really old it makes sense in that context and it is no longer Marit's idea of Marion. However this is relatively closer and I don't know what to make out of it. However both Don't Save Me and Better than This in a certain way are (Or at least one can strongly make a case) like the lost m2m songs that we never got and they offer closure to the whole ordeal, we might never get to see them together again but we got this. Regularly not a fan of Marion music but this one is pretty nice.

With the M2M split, The point here I think, Marion left Marit in the dark with the counter offer to go solo and leave M2M. I assume Marit was not aware that Marion will press on ...without her. Heck I would be happy for my best friend if her career is flying great compared to mine. I wouldnt hold back or hold down her success. But I think Marion handled the whole thing poorly and selfishly..hence making Marit feel betrayed / abandoned. To be dropped like a sack of potatoes just like that would make anyone feel what Marit experience. But I am glad Marit is ok. I think commercially she is a better success than Marion (karma's a bitch...). Marion may have the vocal chops, but Marit to me is the more talented, gifted artist.

Marion and Marit flew home alone, they were both quite saddened by the news. what's worse was that their families were away. Since they were on tour, their families left to travel. When the production company dropped them, their tour was cancelled halfway and they had nowhere else to go but home. Apparently, Marion said that Marit and her didn't speak for a while but met up a few weeks after returning home. They talked about what they wanted to do and where they were headed. Marion said that Marit and her always agreed that they would continue making music together as long as they were having fun. However, it was starting to become more stressful and the girls wanted different things. Marion wanted to continue with pop while Marit wanted to rock. They parted amicably and there was never any bad blood between them. When Marion was asked if she had any regrets, she only mentioned that a few of the skirts she wore were too short haha. Some time later "The Day You Went Away: M2M's Greatest Hits" was released. Great album. It contains a few acoustic versions of their songs that are absolutely beautiful. I always felt like their voices had a certain magic to them and you'd hear it best in the acoustic songs.
