@@vesaseppala5260 maybe I like it because I read the book after watching the film. I had a face and a voice for nearly all of them. I appreaciated certain things better after reading the book, like the eel. You see a glipmse or glimpses of the eel in the tank some times in the movie.

This is why I love the villain that is Dr Hannibal Lecter.
He shows how intellect, calm demeanor, classical taste, and patience, can be intellectually terrifying.

I just realized Gary Oldman and Anthony Hopkins also starred together as eternal (well) enemies in Bram Stoker's Dracula (1992); Gary Oldman of course playing Dracula himself, and Anthony Hopkins playing Abraham von Helsing. Well worth a watch and reaction if you haven't seen it. ;)

The prequel to Silence of the Lambs, also starring Anthony Hopkins and from the same screenwriter, was released just the following year after Hannibal. It is Red Dragon, and it's really darn good.
P.S. One of the craziest things yet about this movie, is coming to realize that Gary Oldman is the creep in the wheelchair.

I think this movie is so underrated. It is less about a thrilling crime drama and more about the relationship between Hannibal and Clarice. She is the Shepard and he is a very intelligent Wolf who admires the Shepard’s purity so much that he could never harm her, in fact - he loves her

I'm glad you reacted to this, seems like very few channels on youtube do. Sure it's not as good as Silence of the Lambs, but man it's a lot of fun. I don't know how you could hate this movie. You will have to do "Red Dragon" too, which is a prequel film that came out in 2002. I think that one is generally more well received. Another film you should react to at some point is "The Devil's Advocate."

While “Silence Of The Lambs” is probably one of my favorite films, I’m really a big fan of both this and Red Dragon. I don’t think it’s fair to compare any of the films to each other as they are all very different stories with perspectives on different viewpoints. Moore really does a great job in the role and it deserves more recognition

About time a UA-camr finally does this one 💯 Im shocked nobody has especially with all the reactions to the first film, this film is underrated & if u read the book of this its even crazier cuz Clair falls in love with Hannibal & he manipulates her to becoming just like him 💯 Hannibal is the only horror movie monster thats a literal mastermind considering hes not only a serial killer that has a IQ of 160 , hes a surgeon 😷 & his job in society is literally a Psychologist which makes him the smartest guy on the entire serial killer chessboard!!!! He can literally blend in & manipulate everyone & thats his greatest power unlike Micheal Myers & Jason & Chucky & Freddy & Leatherface that always mess up & get killed at the end of every film💯
    Tah tah!!!👌🍷

That brain scene almost made me throw up for real when I watched it for the first time. I agree with you, the whole Italy vibe made the entire film for me. Another fantastic Anthony Hopkins performance.
I love the exploration of film brother, been subscribed to you for awhile now. All I can say is keep them coming! To view your reaction whilst having watched the original is almost like watching it for the first time. The term popper is a slang for inhalants, the most popular one being amyl nitrite. These drug inhalants are referred to as poppers, because of the sound the capsule or vital makes upon cracking open. Amyl nitrite is still used legitimately in medicine. Peace out.

The book the movie is based on is.... weird.
It actually ends with Clarice, being broken, accepting and going with Hannibal. It then goes extra weird by describing not the events, but the state of her breaking mind, as she becomes Hannibal 's lover. The author himself kinda regreted writting it.
If you want more good Hannibal, you should watch the tv series. Its entirely new cast and it retells the story from the beginning. It starts slow but its superb.

In the book Clarisse goes with Hannibal to Europe and it is implied they are together. The intern from the jail that has the Hannibal stuff goes to Europe and sees them at a distance going to the opera and that's how the book ends. The author was told they were going to make a movie no matter what so he felt coerced into doing another book, and then also the next one which is about Hannibal's beginnings. The detail in the book about Italian and Florence culture is so in depth and fascinating just in itself. The prequel Red Dragon, based on the first book in the series, is pretty good. Hopkins returns and Ed Norton plays a detective who encounters Hannibal. A standalone movie called Manhunter was made years ago by Michael Mann (Heat) and is based on Red Dragon. It's really good although Hannibal plays a very small role (played by Brian Cox this time). Highly recommend that one. Thanks for reacting!

Mason Verger pretty much deserved to be where he was at the beginning of the film, and what he got in the end was also pretty fitting. There's way too much to unpack, there, so let's suffice it to say he was a child predator of the highest order. He was born into a wealthy family with political connections, so when he got caught he was sentenced to community service and court-ordered therapy in lieu of a prison sentence. Unfortunately for him, he wound up with Hannibal Lecter as his therapist. Say what you want about Dr. Lecter, the guy still has standards--and one of his more respectable ones is that he can't stand unrepentant degenerates like Mason Verger.

Loved your review ~ as always ~
Author Thomas Harris spent 11 ~ eleven ~ perfectionistic years writing his masterpiece novel ~ and I strongly suggest you take the time needed to read it thoroughly.
Although the film has many beautiful scenes in it ~ it is also very different from the novel ~ leving several key figures entirely out ~ and especially obtaining a 100 % totally different ending than the novel !
In the novel ~ Mason Verger ~ was not a very nice character ~ too put it mildly. A sadisitic pedophile. Also he could move around on his own in the film ~ in the novel ~ that'd be impossible for him.
PS : Most impressive in the film : the pigs was terrifying ! And I loved the actor Ivano Marescotti ~ who played Carlo ~
Also ~ if you'd read the novel (and only if) ~ you would understand why Mason Verger wouldn't get the satisfaction of hearing Dr. Hannibal Lecter scream ~ as he was consumed by the pigs ~
but since the film doesn't mention Dr. Lecter's memory palace ~ that information is missed from the film.

Good choice for a reaction. Interesting but very flawed sequel to an all-time classic. It's a good movie, sometimes great, but I think Hannibal as a villain is less interesting here vs. in SotL. He's portrayed as a much more conventional villain-in _Hannibal,_ if you come at him with a gun, he'll snatch it away and shoot you before you can react. But in SotL, he'd find a way to convince you to shoot yourself. SotL's portrayal of him as a master manipulator is just more interesting IMO. As a consequence, I feel like Hannibal's supervillain portrayal makes Clarice look too incompetent by comparison. I can certainly buy Hannibal outwitting her and getting away in the end, but to use a sports analogy, their conflict in this film is a lopsided victory for Hannibal, when it should be more evenly matched.

It's very artsy, on the nose, occasionally cheesy, not subtle and has its flaws, but that's because it's being compared to Silence of the Lambs, the greatest horror movie ever made. There's a lot I like about it. I still like Red Dragon a lot more, and there are moments in this movie where I'm laughing more than I probably should be (Jodie Foster understandably turned down reprising her role as Clarice Starling), including that one scene that everyone talks about, but I watch it just for the bits with Giancarlo Giannini. I wish more was done with his character, even if what was done doesn't make a whole lot of sense. 2 words: farting demons. I'll leave it at that 😂

Interestingly in the book Hannibal and Clarice end up together living in South America. I like the book version more, but this is a fine addition to the cannon.

    A prequel to 'Silence'
💥... Hannibal Rising... obviously without Hopkins
Julianne Moore starred with Antonio Banderas & Sylvester Stallone
💥...Assassins...maybe one of he first times I remember her seeing her...
Thinking about Hopkins' role..and other disturbing roles he's done..alcohol or prescriptions to help him sleep ?... I have a difficult time managing one personality.. much less psychotic personalities...
    See ya next time CI...🌿🌿🌿
