Again, super idea. I am by far no expert and I was able to do this. Ran the tap up as far as I could in the Ghost stabilizer tube. I cut the troll tamer threaded piece to the length of the tap threads. And it was a perfect fit to the tamer anchor on the deck. Thanks for this hack.
Just installed on my ultrex, had to drill and tap the bar but very easy. Mounted the base same spot where it was. Works perfectly, lock solid. Thanks again for the great video.
Great video. 👍🏾 Just installed mine w no issues. I did have to trim my bolt w a hacksaw a bit as well as trim the stabilizer bar so that it would lock in appropriately but this is a great how-to video especially now knowing that you can thread it right into the aluminum stabilizer bar. PERFECTO My Man!
Given that the vertical support rod of the Ghost is already a hollow tube, a "plug" style tap will probably give better results (follow the existing hole) and be easier to use (strength to turn & cut the threads). The plug style has a bit more taper at the tip, helping to get that "perfect alignment" when first starting to cut the threads into the hollow shank.
Real great! Start out by instructing me to drill a hole. Then I come back to finish the video and you hit me with an oh by the way you can avoid drilling this hole. Unreal lol
lol… I have no clue what you’re talking about… I say flat out in the video the hole in the stabilizer bar is the perfect size so all you have to do is tap it…thanks for watching!
Thanks Chris!!...I’m sure it will, just not sure if the hole in the stabilizer bar will be the correct size or if you’ll have to drill first...let me know how ya make out, thanks for watching!
Hey Patrick I used your link to Amazon for the troll tamer and they have three different sizes (2 3/4 -4 1/2) (5" -8") and small .The small gives no dimensions in inches. Could you tell me which one to get for my Lowrance? Thank you. Joe Adams
First, thanks for the information. Couldn't tell from the video, but if you adjust the depth the trolling motor goes down into the water will the pin still line up with the base that was installed on your deck? Thanks, John
Because he is mounting a troll-tamer in a novel (and effective) way, you don't need a specific troll tamer model for the Ghost. If you did want to mount the troll tamer in the conventional way (but why would you?), the part # is THRMC-101FMK-DP for deck to motor gaps of 5-8 inches. That isn't necessary for this method.
I mention in the video why I didn’t show it, just wanted to keep this as short as possible…there’s a million videos out there on how to tap, so I figured it was pointless, I’m sorry!…I used a drill attachment, the one shown/linked in video
Definitely recommend it!…motor is rock solid…I have the direct link under video to the one I purchased, let me know if ya have trouble finding it…thanks for watching!
Ah ok, good to know!...I haven’t tapped many times in the past but I’ve always used tapping fluid just to be safe...but that’s good to know, thank you!
Dude I know this is off topic but I was hoping you could let me ask you something about the Ghost. I know you have to have the puck installed but my question is this: I like to use the Point One Antenna to use the heading up function on my maps with the casting ring. If you dont know this allows the map to move around in the direction your pointing. I need to know does this puck do that already? Or do I need to have the Point one antenna to have this function? Thanks in advance
Hey Eric!...I’m 99% sure you need the Point-1 as well for what you’re looking to do...I run both, my Point-1 is mounted by my console to avoid any magnetic interference...if I’m wrong hopefully someone will jump in and correct me but I’m almost positive that’s the case...thanks for watching!
was just wondering about the support post. Mine is angled to the deck of the boat. Is yours at an angle also ? I have the troll tamer but afraid to install it because it might not completely lock because its at a slight angle when completely down on deck . thanks
Hmm, that’s a good question...mine doesn’t seem to be angled much at all, so I’m not sure...you can always drill/tap the stabilizer bar, and then before screwing down the base, see if it’ll lock in for ya...I actually did that as well before screwing base down just to make sure...let me know how ya make out!
I drilled and tapped it. But just wasn't happy with the way it was trying to lock. Hit and miss So I just screwed the pad back on the deck and never installed it. Really didn't want to drill a hole in the bracket. I might try cutting off the support a little more so it can come down a little more square to the deck. Boat 2010 Triton TR19 Thanks!! for getting back.
Yea no prob!...you should be able to trim that bar to get it more square, keep me posted if ya don’t mind!...I’m interested to see if ya get it to work!
I was wondering do you think it would be possible to mount the tammer in the middle and drill through the trolling motor itself like on the min koda ,reason being on my fortrex. when I first got it Lake Erie rough water snapped my mount because it was off center it put more pressure on one side. so I got the tammer never did it agin ,.I plan on getting the ghost soon and would like to mount the tammer in the middle like my fortrex. I'm wondering if the height would work ...thanks .for the help.
I would say yes, it should work perfect!...I didn't specifically measure for that but after installing it and just eye balling it I don't see any reason it wouldn't work height wise...hope that helps!

Thanks Gary!...glad it worked out for ya, this is a no brainer for anyone with a Ghost in my opinion...thanks for watching!
Hey I just installed
My troll tamer on my ghost and your video worked. I drove the screws in with our tapping was easier for me. Thank you Brian.
That’s awesome, glad it worked out for ya Brian!...thanks for watching!
Thanks brother for all your videos. Been watching them for a couple of years.
No prob, thanks for all the support here on the channel!…I appreciate it!!
Just installed on my ultrex, had to drill and tap the bar but very easy. Mounted the base same spot where it was. Works perfectly, lock solid. Thanks again for the great video.
Nice, glad to see it works for Ultrex too!... thanks for watching!
GENIUS idea. I'm gonna see if this will work with my next Ultrex. Great vid!
Thanks man, I appreciate it!!…let me know if ya get it installed without any trouble!
Just purchased this links above for my new Ghost. Thank you for the tips.
No prob, thanks for watching!!
I was going to drill the Hole in my mount until I saw this. Great information, Thanks
No prob, thanks for watching Chris!

This also will work with the Ultrex once you get the Ghost Stabilizer Kit. It has the same size top screw. Tks for the DIY
Good to know!…thanks for watching Rich!

I always enjoy your well done and informative videos that you produce. Keep up the good work Sir!
Thanks Bill, I greatly appreciate that!!
Great vid, thank you!
Very cool, would’ve never thought about that. Great video as always
Thanks Dennis, I appreciate that!
The tap is 3/8 diameter, 16 threads to the inch....great job.
Yes sir, that’s it!...the piece from the troll tamer screws right in, well worth the 10 minutes for this mod... thanks for watching!
just ordered. Great video!
Thanks man!...well worth it for sure, tight lines!
Nice job Patrick. I'll have to look at my Ultrex wonder if that will work on it
Thanks Chris!!...I’m sure it will, just not sure if the hole in the stabilizer bar will be the correct size or if you’ll have to drill first...let me know how ya make out, thanks for watching!
Thanks for the great idea
No prob, thanks for watching!
Super hack. Great work and vid.
Thank you!!...yea it’s definitely well worth the few bucks for sure, solid as a rock... thanks for watching!
Great video and awesome idea. Gonna do that to mine now. Another topic... do you know if the Hydrowave fits the Ghost?
Thanks Mike!...and that I’m not sure of, let me see what I can find out for ya!
I’ve never owned a hydrowave so I’m not too familiar with how they mount, but I’ll see if I can find any pics of it on a Ghost!
Awesome job
Thanks buddy!...much appreciated!
I’m seeing a couple different troll tamers for different trolling motors . Which one did you purchase or does it matter? Thanks in advance.
For the drill tap, do I want bottoming, plug, or taper?
Exactly which drill tap did you use from your link your posted ? Bottoming?plug? Or taper ?
Hey Patrick I used your link to Amazon for the troll tamer and they have three different sizes (2 3/4 -4 1/2) (5" -8") and small .The small gives no dimensions in inches. Could you tell me which one to get for my Lowrance? Thank you. Joe Adams
Hey Joe!...the 5-8" is the one I went with, worked great!
First, thanks for the information.
Couldn't tell from the video, but if you adjust the depth the trolling motor goes down into the water will the pin still line up with the base that was installed on your deck?
Thanks,
John
Yepper, if you adjust the depth of motor, the stabilizer bar doesn’t move so you’re good to go!... thanks for watching!
Do you know the item number for the troll tamer from T-H marine? I don’t see one specifically for the ghost.
Hey John!...I actually have a direct link to the one I used below the video...hope it helps!

Why would you not show the most important part which is tapping the screw? Did you use a manual tool or a drill with attachment on it?
I mention in the video why I didn’t show it, just wanted to keep this as short as possible…there’s a million videos out there on how to tap, so I figured it was pointless, I’m sorry!…I used a drill attachment, the one shown/linked in video

I got the exact model you said and my screw in piece is way longer
Any light oil will work on the tap.
Ah ok, good to know!...I haven’t tapped many times in the past but I’ve always used tapping fluid just to be safe...but that’s good to know, thank you!
Is that a 47” shaft? Do you find it long enough on big water?
Dude I know this is off topic but I was hoping you could let me ask you something about the Ghost. I know you have to have the puck installed but my question is this: I like to use the Point One Antenna to use the heading up function on my maps with the casting ring. z-18 where did you mount your point -1 puck
Hey Mike!...my point 1 is in front of my console, went with that spot to avoid any interference
Now that you have the security of the Troll Tamer, did you remove the velcro strap that Lowrance supplied to hold the motor down?
I haven’t yet, but I might take it off...it actually gets in the way of the Active Target/Live Scanner so I will probably just remove it!

Did you take the stabilizer bar off and put it in a vise to tap it out?
No sir, I left it on motor and tapped it...i held it with my left hand and tapped it with my right, worked perfectly!... thanks for watching!
@@NitroZ18Fishing Great! Thanks! I really enjoy your Ghost videos, been waiting since January to get it out but water is too hard now!
thank you sir, I appreciate that!...Spring can't come fast enough!
What’s the ram ball for under the trolling motor
Hey Jason!...That was for my last trolling motor, the Xi5...I used it to support the shaft when traveling
do you know what size troll tammer that is.is it mk 101 .104 .or 105
Yes sir, it’s the 101...model number RMC-101FMK-DP to be exact...I have a direct link to it below video!
Have you removed the strap yet?
Hey Jonas!…not sure what ya mean, what strap?
