It was new to me that an East German non-Bundesliga side (Erfurt did not achieve the classification like Dynamo Dresden did) was allowed to play in Europe one year after the German reunification. Thanks for this video. When football was still breathtaking - and not as dull as today, where it's just about big money for the chairmen and the player agents. All new stadiums look the same. The passion from the 80s and 90s has gone, at least to a large extent.

Agreed. And good point about how generic stadiums are around Europe. Back in the early 90s you could immediately tell whether a game was being played in England or Spain/Portugal or the former Eastern bloc simply by the layout of the stadium, goal nets, angle from the camera gantry, etc.
Also in those pre-internet days, there was a lot more mystery to each team in European competitions.

Weil die Menschen damals im Osten leider nichts mehr vom DDR Fußball wissen wollten. Sie wollten die Scheissvereine aus dem Westen sehen. Heute dürfen sie von DFB Gnaden ab und zu mitspielen. Dank der parteiischen Westschiris und der Aufstiegsregel Regionalliga werden Ostvereine heute klein gehalten. Das ist der größte Betrug im Sport.

Es waren die Wirren der Wendezeit. Die Menschen hatten andere Dinge als Fussball im Kopf. Existenzängste, Jobverlust etc. Und außerdem war jetzt die Bundesliga atraktiver als die Oberliga.
