Jess,, what you call the mess is helpful for us that are newbies...I hope you walk around your canned food pantry in the winter time when you get the winter blahs, and marvel at the food your wonderful garden produced for you! Chicken coop is gonna be amazing..first day of school was always emotional for me....lol...SHAKE AND BAKE...
I am so jealous of that huge chicken coop!!! I want a walk in So bad some day. My husband is an indoor boy so I have to go it alone with the farm! It is all good, I love it. Love the names. I can’t wait to see them pulling that cart!
Cant help but smile as you are talking about summer nearly being over. You realize, right, that we are only just a few days past the middle of summer? We still have 40 days of summer left. :) We had our first rain in more than 2 months on Saturday and it will probably be a few weeks before we get any more. I am anxiously waiting for fall, which i hope is very long. :) P. S. My vote is still for Waylon and Willie. That is what they look like to me. But, i hope Jeff and Dale have long happy lives shaking and baking. :)
I spent the better part of last night reading some of your blogs. You stir my Soul, that is a gift. Thank you for bringing God closer to my heart. I'm ashamed to say i'd lost touch in many ways. I feel so thankful for the content you provide. You ARE Joy. And i'm getting right with God. I don't care for the short cold days of Winter either. And coffee.......my favorite beverage. Especially when i get home from work. Here's to a wonderful school year for your boys. It won't be long and they will be on Winter break. Your garden is so messy! hahaha, funny girl!!
LOVE the shake and bake idea! Not a NASCAR fan but the names make since! It will be so much fun for the kids. I love our coop and it's 9x18 you will be thankful for how big it is. I have been helping my son paint his first house so I am behind on planting my fall garden. So this week is planting! I decided last week I am homeschooling my 9yr old and we won't start until September.
I’m amazed at the amount of great content you put out. Your homestead is beautiful!! I’m in love with those garden beds & those baby goats. 💓 These videos make me excited to grow my own homestead! & my husband totally understands the whole my wife unexpectedly brings chickens home thing. 😂
You absolutely will not regret the new coop plan! Ours is a walk in (renovated smoke house- don't tell the chooks) with a screened dividing wall inside for mamas & babies and a big screened overhang. We used to have a tractor style coop and I really appreciate the extra space & flexibility we now have. The overhang is nice to be able to keep them closed up if need be and so growing babies can see the rest of the flock. The chicken yard is right next to my garden as well, and I love throwing them garden scraps...I hope to take composting with them more seriously in the future, back to eden style.
I have difficulty with winter too- mostly bc my mom died in the fall and all that emotion hits me again every year. It takes an acceptance period! But it helps to think of all the things that I love about fall and winter! ❤️
I love your hubby! LOL "My bride compulsively buys chicks"! He is a wise man. It is far better to have a coop too big, than to have a small coop and need a bigger one. Don't forget a spot for feed storage!
I have a hard time with winter as well. My dr prescribed 2000 IU Vitamin D in the summer and 4000 in the winter. It has helped a lot to alleviate the winter blues.
I love your busy gardens and farm. I grew up on a farm, live in the city and miss farm life. Your winters are probably much milder than our Arctic Michigan winters. Thanks for sharing.
Our chickens are next to our garden too. We have two runs that feed into the garden. They “work” the winter garden for me and I kick them Back to their moveable pasture come spring.
Can't wait to see how the tomato cuttings do. I am hoping to use this winter to get the garden planned for next yr. Wood chips and fenced off, soaker hoses placed all that stuff. I need to make the garden where it isn't as much work. And maybe some raised beds for herbs. But it isn't gonna be sad not growing all winter. Maybe spring will come early lol. Hugs
How fun is that! We have a solid white Nubian (Obadiah aka Obie) that we wethered and the kids trained him to pull a cart. It was so fun watching them teach him to pull a make shift cart around the yard. Good times! 😁
That's what my tomatoes look like. I trimmed of all the dead leaves and now the tops are growing and flowering. Pray I get tomatoes this season. We had too much heat this summer. I could count on 1 hand of harvesting tomatoes 😒
Love your videos. We live in northwest Florida on 38 acres and we are expanding our garden this year. Your videos give me motivation when I am feeling discouraged.
Your hens cracked me up in the beginning of your video. One was walking away from you but another started to run up to you until she reached the one walking away she stopped. It was like the other hen said "she's got nothin'" and she was like "oh" and turned around.
Loved the let's go call, shake and bake, hahahaha. That takes the cake, still chuckling. Your garden is ripe for renewal, always look forward and you won't get maudlin. Much love and peace, blessings.
I know this is totally off-topic, but I wanted you to be able to see my question. I haven't seen every video you've made, so forgive me if you already answered this. How do you water your garden? Do you have a drip system? Do you water by hand? Please tell me how you water - your garden is so beautiful! Thanks in advance.
Growing up in Southern California "shake and bake" meant earthquake and 100+ degree weather happening really, really close to each other (usually the bake went first)
I may have found a solution to blight (not mine, Migardener, Rusted garden???). Baking soda...3 tbsp in a gallon of water. It works well, and I adda drop of Dr. Bronner's Salsuds or Castille soap. I love their names and the shake and bake for the kids!
When do you apply the mix? First signs of Blight? I'm going to go search for more info! I'm pretty good about cutting affecting leaves but every year I give up around mid august and it takes them all out.
My cucumbers got those rusty leaves. Is that the same as blight? Will the baking sodas help that too. It is too late this season but I will try it next year.
I love your videos! I have a similar coop as your building with a cage for broodys and it works great. love mine by the garden as well. so thrilled I found your channel very inspirational!
I loved homeschooling. Did it for 27 years. May you have a blessed and wonderful year. For the hard time you have with winter. Have you ever tried taking B12 vit.
Yip Yip HAHAHA Avatar. My kids picked up on that! Kind of funny, my eldest son's name is Jackson. He's named after my great uncle Jack. My boys won't start school until Wednesday. I cannot wait until it gets cooler. SO much got accomplished last year before I started my homesteading adventure and started YouTubing. One thing that is going to get done no matter what is getting that barn up and running! I cannot wait!
I love the goats names! That is adorable! My husband is a trekky too though! LOL! And your's sounds like a very very smart man, I know my husband WISHES he had made my chicken coop much much bigger!!! Since we have to do a add on to it now!!
Lol Jeff and Dale, good old basic names. Lol we have a Goat in Cart Training rite now. Our cart goat had passed on a couple years back and we are ready again. No more lugging hay bales st chore time, the goat can pull it.
Would you do a video on your homeschooling routine? It's my first year homeschooling my son who is in kindergarten, and I could definitely use some tips/direction! 😄💖
I would love a video on books you recommend for the "waiting room" stage. I just picked up Planting for honeybees by Sarah wyndham Lewis. So excited to read it!
I would like to have a vegetable farm, but the animals are so cute and precious 💖 Don’t you get attached to them? I could never kill them after caring for them or otherwise. I have been a vegetarian since I was a teenager (8 years) and I like this simple way of life on a farm, but I don’t know how the rest of you do it. I just want to come and pet and cuddle your animals 💖
don't think it's the same thing. Rusty leaves=not enough water? or just the end of thier season? Sow some more. I garden following the phases of the moon...so it's even more complicated for me. But i think there's still time to sow more cukes.
I rewatch your garden tours when I need some more happiness than what I can muster on my own! Your cherry tomato harvests make my life so happy!
I do too😂
Jeff & Dale!! Perfect!! Darrell Waltrip says "Boogedy boogedy boogedy"! LOL!
Trying to watch all your videos that I haven't seen yet...just love all of them Jess💚💚💚
Jess,, what you call the mess is helpful for us that are newbies...I hope you walk around your canned food pantry in the winter time when you get the winter blahs, and marvel at the food your wonderful garden produced for you! They are so beautiful...I love them!!!💗💗💗
Donner and Dasher. Would be cute names.
Jeff and Dale are so adorable! They are so calm as they are in your arms...they love it!
Awesome with lots of space for chicks. They will give you happier eggs.
I absolutely love you guys! I think of you as the Dynamic Duo! 😁
I LOVE it that you guys are Star Trek nerds!!!! Yay!! 🖖🏻
I am so jealous of that huge chicken coop!!! I want a walk in So bad some day. My husband is an indoor boy so I have to go it alone with the farm! It is all good, I love it.
Love the names. I can’t wait to see them pulling that cart!
First vlog I have seen with both of you. Too cute.

Good Morning to your beautiful Amazing Family your family is truly Blessed🌻💕🌞🐝🌻💕🌞🐝🌻💕🌞🐝🌻💕🌞🐝🌻💕🌞🐝🌻
Shake and Bake!! 😂❤️ Should have named one Ricky and the other Bobby. Can’t wait to see the babies in the goat-cart.

That's hilarious! Shake-n-Bake...hahaha. ♥ seeing your garden in this state...thought I was the only one...

How fun is that! We have a solid white Nubian (Obadiah aka Obie) that we wethered and the kids trained him to pull a cart. It was so fun watching them teach him to pull a make shift cart around the yard. Good times! 😁
Those babies are so cute! Their fur is so shiny and healthy looking. You guys do a great job with all your animals. Cheers!
That's what my tomatoes look like. I trimmed of all the dead leaves and now the tops are growing and flowering. Pray I get tomatoes this season. We had too much heat this summer. I could count on 1 hand of harvesting tomatoes 😒
BTW, I like to see the mess, it makes it real!!! It means you really are doing the work! Love the names!!! Lovely video! TY
Poor Jackson. Hope his school year starts and goes well
Your garden still looks beautiful
Love your videos. We live in northwest Florida on 38 acres and we are expanding our garden this year. Your videos give me motivation when I am feeling discouraged.
"Breaks my tomato-loving heart." ❤️ Sorry about the blight and you having to remove them , because oh my, how beautiful the tomatoes themselves are!
Your hens cracked me up in the beginning of your video. One was walking away from you but another started to run up to you until she reached the one walking away she stopped. It was like the other hen said "she's got nothin'" and she was like "oh" and turned around.
The rain is helping to give a fall like feeling. I'm afraid I will be mowing the yard in November though.
I love the name Mr. Darcy! Right up my alley
That is my DREAM chicken coop!!! Love it!! Beautiful garden! I will get our property set up someday! ~Trish
Back to school, I loved that time of year as a kid. I love the fall so I am ready for it to happen. Great video
Blessings
I love it!
Loved the let's go call, shake and bake, hahahaha. That takes the cake, still chuckling. Your garden is ripe for renewal, always look forward and you won't get maudlin. Much love and peace, blessings.
Love it!! Great idea 😍 LOL" Shake and Bake "
Shake and bake!!! 🤣
I can see it too. Love it! ❤️

My brother is going into 7th! Good luck! I'm a middle school teacher, love that age.
Shake and Bake is a great phrase but would make even better names! We are also feeling that weird, end of summer/start of school melancholy.
Growing up in Southern California "shake and bake" meant earthquake and 100+ degree weather happening really, really close to each other (usually the bake went first)
I treat after every rain and whenever I see signs of blight. I cut off affected leaves too, but so far, it seems to work, even on zucchini!
Yep Yep! Apa and Momo! hahah I see your Avatar love. :) They totally are the same colors of Apa and Momo but I like your selection.
I may have found a solution to blight (not mine, Migardener, Rusted garden???). Baking soda...3 tbsp in a gallon of water. It works well, and I adda drop of Dr. Bronner's Salsuds or Castille soap.

thank you.....Will try.....hate the blight
My cucumbers got those rusty leaves. Is that the same as blight? Will the baking sodas help that too. It is too late this season but I will try it next year.
I might have to try adding this into my folier feed recipe next year!
Baking soda works as a fungicide and lowers pH of soil too.
I love your videos!
I have a similar coop as your building with a cage for broodys and it works great. love mine by the garden as well.
so thrilled I found your channel very inspirational!
shake n bake....lol.....you two are awesome
50 degrees! in the winter? wow! nice!

And now he’s in college. ❤
GOD BLESS YOU TOO.
"Shake and Bake" He's waaaay to excited for that, but I love it! LOL!
I loved homeschooling. Did it for 27 years. May you have a blessed and wonderful year. For the hard time you have with winter. Have you ever tried taking B12 vit.

Our cart goat had passed on a couple years back and we are ready again.
No more lugging hay bales st chore time, the goat can pull it.

I would love a video on books you recommend for the "waiting room" stage. I just picked up Planting for honeybees by Sarah wyndham Lewis. So excited to read it!

We've processed chickens but I don't think I could butcher a goat. I love them too much. Of course, I don't eat just a ton of meat either.
♥♥♥♥
don't think it's the same thing. Rusty leaves=not enough water? or just the end of thier season? Sow some more. I garden following the phases of the moon...so it's even more complicated for me. But i think there's still time to sow more cukes.

I am NOT enamored with the idea at ALL. I think its exploitive.
