I think this show can show us and give us real world examples of what Thorfinn meant when he said "I have no enemies". Being able to accept anyone for all they are, including their flaws, bringing positivity to any situation, appreciating beauty in everything around us, and countless other things. If you can see everyone in the world as your friend, even if they don't feel the same way, how could you possibly have enemies?
@@harryfromends I'm new to this type of thinking so I'm starting small. I've started saying "hello" and giving a wave to anyone I pass in the street, so hopefully I'm pushing positive energy into the world I live in. I don't know if this is the best way or even if it is effective at all, but as they say "A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step".
After my grandmother passed, I found so much comfort from his podcast “drifting off with Joe pera”. One episode in particular helped me really access my grief. I actually reached out to him and let him know how much it meant to me and to thanks him. He wrote me a really lovely, thoughtful message back. Such a gentleman and such a lovely person

It was basically the same as his comedy special that he uploaded recently, but he was more interactive with the audience. I hope to catch the next one, but it's nowhere near me as of now.
@@harryfromends I think Smiling Friends is unique in that it's far from wholesome, but considering the whole premise is a charity that helps people smile, that's pretty optimistic. It's not as dark as Moral Orel, but not as wholesome as Joe Pera. It's the middle ground
I agree, I almost cried a few times from how wholesome the show is, even where there’s just silence, it feels so peaceful and a break from the constant pressure of life
Thank you for making this video. More people need to be talking about Joe Pera. I discovered his show this summer and I don't want to say it changed my life, but it definitely revolutionized my psyche on how I view the world, which is invaluable when you have depression and need more things to find joy in. I wish he knew how much he has helped me, I can't even describe it.
This show was so powerful for me. I'll always remember the double take that was Joe Pera Talks You To Sleep with Joe Pera Reads The Church Announcements. I had defeated opiate addiction and fallen into alcoholism based on the depression caused by what the future holds. Those two episodes kept me from killing myself that night. Method, note, everything. That reminder of the simplest joys. Joe Pera didn't get me sober, but he reminded me to stay sober for the stuff that I truly cared about, and that's gone a long way. Or the Rat Race episode, where Joe's Grandma suddenly dies in the middle of the episode. It came out of nowhere, but that's how those deaths happen. The day I found out my grandma died was one of the best days of my life up until I heard she died. Hearing that was the worst moment of my life, a visceral reaction anytime I even think of the moment. If it weren't for Joe Pera, I don't think I could ever recognize that day as a good day. I know Grandma would want me to remember that day as a good day, she talked to her friends about that trip I took all the time, she was so proud of what I had done to get to that day. Joe Pera was one of the people that helped me process one of the worst days of my life into a bittersweet memory. I'm forever thankful for that, because I know it's what my Grandma would have wanted.
I’m sure your grandma would be incredibly proud of you! I’m so sorry to hear you went through all of that, and honestly Joe Pera is a great healer, glad you came through all of your lowest moments, and it’s only up from here!
i'm glad i wasnt the only one who caught the pathos behind Joe letting the pumpkin go down the river i caught the episode halfway through and didn't get the context but i still felt it, that feeling of letting something go that gave you so much joy once they'll be other pumpkins and other things that make you happy sure, but that pumpkin was special it was Your pumpkin i immediately compared that scene to the depressed penguin scene from Encounters at the End of the World in how humans can ascribe so much emotional meaning from odd naturally occurring things that don't actually mean anything in the grand scheme of things

Joe Pera talks you to sleep was a staple in my life when it came out. I've watched it countless times because I never get tired of it. That man is an angel.
Joe pera helped me during a really tough time in my life, He was literally there when no one else was. He taught me to slow down and process everything in the moment sometimes, he gave me hope in my desperate time of need. i can honestly say if it weren't for him popping onto the tv at 2am that cold and isolated night in Virginia at grandmas. I probably would've never made it back from that visit. Thank you joe pera.
All other Adult Swim shows are quick hitters. You watch one episode and then move on to the next show. This show is different. I can watch an entire season in one session. There's almost a magical aura around this show. At least that's how I see it.
I was listening to his sleep specials before I knew he had a show after looking up comedy sleep sounds. Bedtime Stories for Cynics on Audible narrated by Nick Offerman with short stories from a load of comedians is good if laughing to sleep is your jam.
Joe Pera was the closest thing we had to a new Mr. Rogers. Someone that teaches people to just love one another, to accept people for who they are. Now, that hope is dashed because the show was canned far too soon. is there any justice or morals left in this world? I'm beginning to lose hope...
Based on AS history with shows, i would believe that it was cancelled due to it making a significant amount of money. Adult swim is not mainstream, they let their best shows free and use the platform for underdogs who wouldn't otherwise get the chance elsewhere.
That’s an interesting argument, but I actually think the opposite is true, especially after the merger, only shows that were seen as profitable were kept on I.E Rick and Morty & Smiling Friends
*brief correction, you say "based off the success of the Joe Pera Talks You to Sleep specials"- there was only one such anjmated special. Then a sort of a pilot, but technically just a special, called Joe Pera Helps You Find the Perfect Christmas Tree. The episode of season 1 called Joe Pera Talks You Back to Sleep has that sort of a reference to the original special in that 'back to sleep' could mean just 'sleep' or it could mean 'again'. That last thing is my own analysis tho :p
Adult Swim really isn't even worth watching anymore anyways. Cartoon Network sure as hell isn't. Give it enough time and surely that whole damn channel will just get cancelled for underperforming.
