Finally! Been looking everywhere for a video that showed what to do with those ropes. Thank you for sharing. You just made someone smarter today! :D
Even on a quiet day, it's a good idea to stake down the corners with the ropes. One random gust of wind can fling the whole thing up and over your camper roof!
Good tip! Thanks for sharing
seriously. I love you. I took my awning off in a fit of anger and now can put it back on and enjoy it!
Oh good! Glad to help Leigh!
Bought our little Santa Fe last summer with an original awning like this. Bag was broken and we got it repaired this winter. Just pulled the awning out and cleaned it up - it's in great shape and now we know how to set it up!
That is awesome Chris! Thanks for writing!
still making a difference in 2024, thanks for the video
What a nice thing to say! This brightens my day :D
Yup I agree, I bought a used pop up with no idea how this works, super helpful video!
oh man! Wish I saw this before i mentioned a few curse words trying to set one up the other day for the first time and tear down after filling with snow lol Good news is I figured it out pretty much exactly!
I have a 1992 Americana pioneer. I found inside the dinette bench what appears to be a screened in attachment for the awning. Looks like it’s never been installed. I’m hoping I can find a video somewhere that shows how to install it.
I recently bought a 2000 Coleman destiny popup camper. For the first time I tried to setup the canopy. It was a disaster. Now I see what was missing, the guide ropes, and no clue what steps to take to set up the rafters. This was right on time. Thank you very much. Now I need to figure what systems I actually have in the camper. I would love to pick your brain on this one.
Glad it was helpful~ Here is a link of the options that were available in your model year. Welcome to the club!

Close up shots of pole insertion and crutch cap placements may be helpful for those that may need a better visual reference. Good work. Thank you
Good vids, you know your products and also good instructor. I would also like to give some praise to the editor and camera-person. =-)
Thanks Carlos! I appreciate that :D
Thanks! Exactly what I needed to know!!!
Fantastic! Thanks for writing.
I drop the legs, hold it, put the center rafter pole in first, then the outers, adjust height then stake the ropes. Once the center rafter pole is set it will stay put while you do the rest.
Good tips TF Shaw! Thanks for sharing!
Super helpful!
Glad it was helpful lee! Thanks for watching.
Thank u as I have the Taos model and thought I was missing poles… very good info sir
Glad it was helpful!
Thank you!
You're welcome!
hello love your videos. i was curious if you know where i can find a new old stock bag awning i live in colorado and a wind storm took out our poles
I just listed many replacement poles for you. Please take a look at the awning directory at colemanpopupparts.com
Hi Derek! With the Highlander series, there’s no way to install the rafter poles after raising the roof unless you’re like eleven feet tall. Is there a reason why I shouldn’t install the rafter poles when the roof is only partially raised, and then extend the ground poles the rest of the way after I raise the roof the rest of the way? Or should I just be doing the rafter poles from a stepladder?
Either way would work!
I have this old style awning on my 2007 Fleetwood Saratoga and was curious how to set it up. The threading that attaches the awning bag to the rubber flange has degraded and is unraveling in places. Do you think an awning shop or upholstery place would be able to sew the flange and bag back together or would I need to replace the whole thing? Thank you for your great and informative videos!
Found my answer by looking at the product reviews for the awning cord on the coleman pop up parts site, Wonderful!
Just had a 1997 coleman given to me by a family member. they only used it once. Today I set up the awning witch was never-ever used, and I also set up the room enclosure that came with it, witch was also never used. My question is can I get a new bag for the awning or do I need to have a shop custom make one for me. Thanks for the great video.
J, a local upholstery shop should be able to create a new bag for the awning.
Is there any way to install an awning rail on a Coleman Santa Fe 1998 that doesn’t have an awing rail?
Yes! Here's a link to a metal style that can be installed on any type of roof.

Damn my pop up I just bought don’t have the Awning Rafter Pole for the sides I only have the 3 poles in the front with the ropes. Do I need the Awning Rafter Pole for the sides to make it work?
Yes you should have them. They offer more stability to the system.
My too.
only the three poles and ropes..
Where an I get the rafters?
do u sell it.?
@@carlosdelossantos5131 I went on Amazon and bought rafter poles there to expensive for oem
Where can I buy one exactly like this? Not the ones that require to install fixtures to hold the poles
The originals are unfortunately no longer available Yang Li. I wish I had better news for you.
How do I know what size to look for in an awning?
Measure your awning rail on the camper. Get as close by not going over.
Came here hoping for insight on that center vertical support leg. That thing drives me crazy. With the click locks, I have yet to find a way to get that leg to do anything useful. It either hangs in the middle there off the ground, or I have to angle if off to the side to get it to reach the ground without making one of the side supports pop off the ground! I'm sure it's entertaining to watch me though. :)
The inner leg might be to short Mike.
@@popupcamperpro Yes, because those lock points are about an inch and half apart, it is either too long or too short. Rarely the length I need. :)
@@MikeMitrovich You can always drill a few new holes.
Also any instructions on the add a room I’m lost
All currently available are on line at colemanpopupparts.com lashanda.
Where can I get one in pennsylvania
At colemanpopupparts.com. We will ship it right to you!
Any suggestions is the bag is missing ???
Contact a local upholster to get a new bag made is my recommendation. The originals are nla Lashanda.
Add a room info available? Thanks for any help
Coming soon Harvey!
Is that a Dometic awning? We have a 9’ one and it looks similar. Great video!
It is not 3Arrows! This is an original Coleman / Fleetwood awning. Likely the last new old stock one in existence.
@@popupcamperpro Good to know thanks. The bag on mine is tearing as well as the rubber strip that attaches to the camper. I may have to replace with a Dometic awning. It's too bad because we also have the add-a-room.
