    How do you wire all three voices though? I just got a Kiesel with these pickups and it came wired with (I believe) the High Frequency Tilt on the push/pull tone pot. They didn't wire up any of the other 2 voicings though (didn't realize the other voices even existed) so if I get Voice 2 wired to a new pushpull volume pot (V2 is the gain reduction option shown on the wiring diargram, right?) and then voice 3 the single coil tap would need to go on a newly installed mini switch or something, right?

    Is anyone able to give me some advice on the moderns? I've tried a guitar wired only for the active voice which i loved for metal, but i'm wondering how well the "passive voicing" works. Is it really like a GOOD passive pickup? Or just passable for mid gain tones?
    I''m wondering how the passive voicing would sound for rock (classic rock, 80s, 90s, pop punk etc)
    Thanks

    I like the Fishman pickups in my SLS Elite. If I did an upgrade to them, I would put another set of Fishman pickups in.

    • @motardbrah7768
      @motardbrah7768 8 місяців тому +1

      I got an E1 elite evil twin with fishmans in it and had crazy feedback at lower gain settings than I use for passives. Sent it back and they replaced the bridge pickup with a new one, still the same issue. I can't get to the point of a proper saturated chug tone without the squealing happening and only a noise gate will cover it up. Even still every time you hit a chord and mute, the whine comes through for a sec, so not handy lol
      Also has a very nasty high trebly tone on the high notes.
      I'm surprised I can't really find anyone else having a similar issue with them and everyone says they're noiseless, what's your take on them?

    • @patrickaskey1965
      @patrickaskey1965 8 місяців тому

      Mine have a nice clean tone. I didn't have any issues with them when I had my Fender Hot Rod Deluxe IV. I switched to a Tonex pedal and Amplitube 5 software and the pickups handle some of the highest gain amp models with no problems. I had 16 pedals on a pedal board before selling everything to upgrade to a few new guitars. Some of them were high gain pedals as well. I lowered the action on the SLS Elite to the thousandths of an inch and didn't lower the pickups . I ended up adjusting the action a little higher because it didn't sound very good. Try adjusting your action or playing with your pickup height. I will lower mine back down a little bit and drop the pickups the same amount. Measure your height from the pickups to the bottom of the string so you know where the height is. When you get it set right, measure it and take a picture so you know what height is right.

    • @motardbrah7768
      @motardbrah7768 8 місяців тому

      @patrickaskey1965 Hmmm interesting...
      Yeah I'm playing through an EVH 5150 and a quad cab so I imagine maybe it may be a bit more prone to feedback...
      The pickup height doesn't seem to make a difference as the feedback happens with the strings completely muted. The only thing I can tell is that it's a lot worse using a tube screamer through the front end over turning the gain up on the amp, but it happens regardless.
      And it happens before I'm able to get as much of a saturated distorted tone as I'd like.
      If I stand off to the side of the amp a few metres away and face the guitar away from the speakers it lessens. But just seems very strange for pickups that everyone says are sooo quiet.
      I didn't think I should have had to jack up my noise gate so high to cover it up and it seems to rob the tone anyways 💩
      Also I'm using 200mah rechargeable nimh batteries, didn't seem any better with a regular alkaline either but the voltage on the batteries seems to drop below 9v within 30min of use lol

Well, I'm definitely not buying a new guitar until they ship with 3 voices...

      @marcosviniciusyokoyamamazu4284 8 місяців тому +2

      Actually they had single-coil but was not a voice, there were terminals that you needed to solder the wires to the push pull out pickup selector, this new version must have the fast connectors already wired for the 3 voices. The "older" version was more flexible, in my guitar I have a push pull for voice 1 / 2 and a 3 way mini toggle for humbucker/single inner coil/single outer coil, so I have 6 tones in 1 pickup, but the difference is subtle. The old version also have a high frequency tilt functionality that you could wire.

    • @lukebarkermusic
      @lukebarkermusic 4 місяці тому

      @@marcosviniciusyokoyamamazu4284 That's quite a cool setup...having the ability to choose which coil you want from the coil split. I've got a Cort KX507 that lets you choose voice 1/2 with the volume knob push/pull, and coil split with the tone knob push/pull. Like you say the difference can be subtle but it's definitely there...coil split gives you a spankier sound with more attack. I'm surprised that a more budget brand like Cort are happy to wire it up, but LTD and other more premium brands only give you the voice change. I think the coil split makes more difference than the voice change tbh, although it's great to have both options. Perhaps as these manufactuers begin to use this new 3 voice version they will wire up all of it, but LTD's new 2024 guitars they just released seem to still have the old Moderns.
      I recently got a Schecter KM-7 III Artist as I thought the 26.5" scale would be easier to play than the multiscale of my Cort. And the Schecter being a higher end guitar with stainless steel frets is a big plus too. It has the Keith Merrow signature Fluence set which I've discovered is actually a stock Classic neck pickup, and the bridge is effectively a modified Classic. I love the neck pickup, but not really liking the bridge so much. It's great for cleans and leads, but it doesn't have enough growl for the metal/djent stuff which is one of the main reasons for having a 7 string. Part of the reason is that it seems to compress very easily.
      I'm thinking of swapping it for a Modern, I know they can chug well enough. Now they've released this new 3 voice version that's available in the traditional pickup 'open core' format, it should be easy to drop in. There is already a 3-way toggle on the KM-7 for voice 1/2/3 so again having this 3 voice version of the Modern will make things easier. I'm thinking of trying an interesting wiring setup though. Will keep the 3-way pickup selector, but add another 3-way toggle for voicing so it can be chosen seperately for each pickup. Ideally would change the default coil split to outer coil (always seems to be inner coil as standard with Fluences), as that should make the bridge coil split more agressive and the neck sweeter. Also thinking of adding a push/pull to the volume knob, that would instantly go to both pickups coil split to inner coils. So you'd have quick access to the ideal ambient clean sound.
      So similarly to your setup, I'd be able to access both outer and inner coils (outers seperately, but only inners together...I'd be happy with that). I reckon that would be quite a difficult wiring job though...the inner coils function would almost need a seperate circuit linked to the push/pull that bypasses the 3-way pickup selector I think? I've got no experience working on guitars myself though! I'm gonna ask a gutiar tech to fit the new pickup and do the wiring but no idea if I'll be able to find a tech that has any experience with Fishman and can work out such a wiring scheme. I have emailed Fishman to ask for advice literally a few hours ago but no idea if they will be able to help...I doubt they have time to come up with wiring diagrams for every possible idea a customer has.
      I was also thinking of putting the high frequency tilt option on a tone knob push/pull. The KM-7 is quite a bright sounding guitar so this could be handy to have. It doesn't have a tone knob stock but hopefully a tech can add one. I've seen a few people mention that this new Fluence Modern version doesn't have the HFT any more but the wiring diagram does seem to show it?
