They regularly go up to 400-500k miles. These engines just don’t die - they were certified as aircraft engines. Toyota gave the block an MRI before it gets assembled for the 100 series land cruiser / LX470 just to give you an idea of how much of a perfectionist they were about these engines

Mine has 305,000 miles. Uses no oil and runs smooth. It has had a tick for a few years I'm not sure what that's about. I change the plugs every 60k miles and had the valve cover gaskets replaced . Timing belt done every 100k miles. They last but you have to do the maintanence

On my 2003 tundra 4.7 the timing belt was changed at about 240,000 miles. The water pump was also changed although the new water pump failed after less than 30,000 miles, the pump itself had a warranty but did not include labor, so it was expensive for the original owner who sold the truck to me at 296,000 miles. I put new tires and new shocks. On a 1,000 mile trip I got 19 mpg driving conservatively. The return home trip I got 17 mpg but drove faster because I was in a hurry. It's a great off road truck (Limited, TRD, extended cab) it has pulled my Massey Ferguson 245 out of a mud hole a few times, it's very dependable and handy on my small timber land but it has a very disappointing payload capacity and with thin gauge metal I no longer use it to carry fire wood. This truck handles excellent on the road and is a pleasure to drive.

241k on my LX470 and runs like an absolute top. I plan on driving this thing until it returns to the great parking lot in the sky

My 04 is just at 270,000 miles. It runs like a top and doesn’t even burn any oil yet. I’m expecting a MINIMUM of 500,000-700,000 miles. I routinely road trip the vehicle and at times in addition to my foul/winter weather runabout, it is currently serving daily driving duty…

The extreme cases are a million miles, this is the engine that was in the first tundra that went 1 million miles. There have been several that made it to that number since then.

Great video, good info! Noticed the radiator in your vehicle is looking very brown on top. That would look to be an original radiator and it's changed color due to age and heat. Keep an eye on it, it may be wise to replace the radiator before it ruptures. Had to do that on on my Tundra at about 235k, after it left my wife on the side of the interstate.

The one I bought had the dial backed, looking at the carfax it most likely has around 300k, but you couldn't even tell, because it runs really well and smoothly. What exhaust setup do you have on this one?

You're supposed to do the timing belt ever 90k -100k miles. Not 30 😂

  • @kellysmith7511

They last well because they are serviced often by the toyota schedule and they are super low output for the size. Great motor though , but not magic. Actually considering the long life and high fuel consumption...make your judgement on that?

The manual says timming belt is to be changed at 90k miles. Not 60k. I change mine at 120k. I've never seen a timming belt fail on a Toyota before 200% of it's recomended change interval.
