As an ex-volunteer of the Navalnyi Headquarters in Russia (2017 - 2019) and as an international ex-journalist investigating Navalnyi's poisoning, I am happy that this Oscar will lead to the greater information widespread of Aleksei Navalnyi and his barbarian incarceration! Freedom to Navalnyi!

Asked by Ekho Moskvy host and editor-in-chief Alexei Venediktov to share his views on the popular slogan among Russian supporters of the annexation - "Crimea is ours" - Navalny initially appeared to evade the question, saying that "Crimea belongs to the people who live in Crimea." When pressed for a direct answer, he added that "Crimea, of course, now de facto belongs to Russia."
"I think that despite the fact that Crimea was seized with egregious violations of all international regulations, the reality is that Crimea is now part of Russia," he said. "Let's not deceive ourselves. And I would also strongly advise Ukrainians not to deceive themselves."
Navalny said he would not return Crimea to Ukraine if he were to become the president of Russia.
"Is Crimea some sort of sausage sandwich to be passed back and forth? I don't think so," he said.
Crimea was part of Russia under the U.S.S.R. until Soviet leader Nikita Khrushchev transferred it in 1954 to the fellow Soviet republic of Ukraine. At the time, when the countries were both part of the Soviet Union, the move was a symbolic one.
Navalny should have won an Oscar not for the documentary, but for the Best actor and main male role. So many years of playing democrat for the Western public, being in the same time imperialist and chauvinist - you need to know how to do it. He is professional!
Totally agree. I ll add also the fact he supported Russian aggression in Georgia in 2008 and he is against Georgia's sovereignty and has the same views as Vladimir Putin. He wants democracy only for Russia. For the Russia's neighborhood he has same imperialistic attitude

This is a film about a brave Russian political activist, who's worked to expose corruption for more than 10 years. It's not about Ukraine.

Navalny struggle with dictatorship is an amazing courageous heroic struggle. Many times, in prison, knowing they can do whatever they want to him, he spoke against the war in Ukraine, again and again. How can this be forgotten?

Amazing movie about an inspiring person. Putin is a war criminal with so many similarities to Hitler and other dictators before him (and contemporaries). It's times like these I wish I was religious so I could be at least reassured that he would receive his retribution when he dies.
Stay strong and keep on fighting against totalitarian governments like Putin's government. Never give up! Never give in!

Nazi Germany had no opposition, not even in Europe. Everyone was shaking Hitler’s hand until he attacked Poland. NAVALNY IS THE ONLY DIRECT POLITICAL OPPOSITION TO PUTIN (BIDEN TOO). The film is not about/for RF but about staunch opposition to its dictatorship, its methods, its terror vs its own people.
Why not? A film about Germans who do not support their dictator would be acceptable, since they are against the atrocities of their country. And moreover, they started shooting this film about Navalny even before the war with Ukraine.

i’m so happy for russians, they got both Oscar AND Nobel! All what is took - just another war but it worth the attention they get. The only bad thing - corruption leaded to the war being not as successful as it could. Hopefully Navalny will make russian great again as he always made it clear his intentions are. Surely his resent twits about respecting other countries’ sovereignty made some of his followers mad but as soon as they understand he was forced to spread that nonsense to get the reward they will forgive him 😊

ПОЗОР ОСКАРУ за награждение Навального, который говорил, что Крым не вернется в Украину даже если он будет президентом. Волков- его соратник, говорил тоже самое и умолял некоторых олигархов убрать из списка санкций
Навальный когда-то говорил, что даже самое демократическое правительство не сможет разрешить крымскую проблему, это было сказано году в 17, когда кризис серьёзно затянулся и стало ясно, что дальше будет хуже, ведь Кремлю всё сошло с рук. Он никогда не говорил, что не желает возвращения Крыма Украине, речь шла о том, что считает это нереалистичным ввиду международной практики в подобных случаях. Никто из ФБК не поддерживал аннексию Крыма и они постоянно говорили, что это проблема с нулевым профитом и гигантским ущербом.
После 24 февраля вся ситуация изменилась кардинально, возврат Крыма стал более чем реалистичным. Навальный, Милов, тот самый Волков, Шаветдинов и пр. на протяжении всего этого года многократно заявляли, что возврат Крыма обязателен.
