As delightful as anyone should want, this early work of Brian's is a world apart from the bulk of his stringent symphonic output, sounding rather more like the lighter music of Eric Coates. Even this opus, however, shows the beginnings of Brian's edgy, abrupt style and audacious orchestration, as if he weren't quite comfortable being playful.
