I'm so glad I found out what it was!
One year ago, another performance by the hr of this symphony was released, but conducted by Andrés Orozco-Estrada. While this recoding is great, I like the new one better.
As I'm sure everyone knows Paavo is the son of Neeme Jarvi the world famous conductor and is adored and loved by musicians and audiences around the world for his sheer joy and love of the music and indeed musicians. He is an inspiration to all especially the young and he respects all musicians as he knows and understands how difficult it is to get to the top of the profession to become a world class orchestral player. He was born in Estonia but now resides in the USA with his family. A truly adorable conductor to work with, he has a generous heart and a wonderful sense of humour.
Growing up my parents would always play classical music on the radio. Specifically WQXR broadcast from New York City. Every Saturday morning, often while the family was eating breakfast, the show "Breakfast Symphony" would air, and the third movement of Mendelssohn's Symphony #4 would be the theme song to open the program. I love the whole symphony but this movement brings back good memories of family breakfast on Saturday mornings. Excellent performance by the FRS as lead by Paavo Järvi. Thank you.
Jarvi wasn’t just conducting this orchestra. I got the sense he was having a musical conversation with every individual musician there, and they were all enjoying it immensely. I certainly did. His hands were not so much directive, but inviting the participants to brilliant participation.

The "Italian Symphony" is a model of exhaustive energy, elegance, and aggressive cheeriness - the last named virtue possibly also a vice if one is looking for a symphony of more contrasting moods. I usually do, but its exuberance and sincerity always uplifts my spirit, and never more than in this committed performance which seems to convey all the joy Mendelssohn felt on his travels in Italy.

The way I LONG FOR that strugglingly majestic part at 7:02, like, I've listened to this so many times that I obviously know it's there, I even played it in a concert, I know that it is to come, but STILL every time I hear it building up I get so excited and impatient and I can't wait, and then it's time and it's just so indescribably beautiful, so powerful, wow man I don't know, it just moves something huge in me. Mr. Mendlessohn what tf did you compose you bastard
although Mendelssohn isn't my favorite composer, he's one of the best composers to hear one of his works live in concert. I saw Elijah live and it transported me. I never liked choral music before that but within a few minutes in was hooked.
This is the perfect orchestra to be playing Mendelssohn Italian Symphony. It has wonderful woodwinds, brass and percussion along with the great strings sections. I had hoped that I could hear them play Dvorak's Symphony #8, which also uses the entire orchestra. Their Dvorak's 8th was just posted on April 11, 2015, directed by Manfred Honeck. In 6-7 weeks, it has been watched over 6,700 times and the "likes" outnumber the "dislikes" by 118-0. Clara the flautist is brilliant as usual, and so is the rest of the orchestra. All of the solos, duets, trios and echoes are played beautifully. If you love this piece, you will that one, too!
+Jurgen Hoffmann A lot of people agree with us about Clara. At the end of Dvorak 8, when Maestro Honeck came back out for the first time, he motioned for Clara to stand. That caused deafening roar unmatched by any recognitions after that. Of course, she already has an international reputation as a premier flautist.
9:08 - 9:27............. Especially 9:25 - 9:27 That insanely small section is one of the greatest and most perfect rich additions I've ever heard, it could have perfectly ended with the high octaves just before it, but it didn't. This addition is pure perfection, it transmits me such an unbelievable feeling of fulfilled majesty and sublimeness. And I don't even think those words fully express the feeling...
Exactly, totally energising :-) What has a similar effect on me is the 3rd part of Schumann's piano concerto and 1st part of Mozart's concerto no. 25, especially if the pianist is Ivan Moravec.
The first movement is just simply perfect. The way Mendelssohn drives the music with the simple opening motif throughout the movement is just absolutely sublime. Only Beethoven or Bach could've written something so exciting using only one or two themes.
@@froggyctf5497 ...and he (and we, in turn) was so lucky to have a father that indulged his passion for music.
Unrelated, but every time I watch a classical performance I always have this obsessive thought at the silence between movements "Wouldn't it be embarrassing if somebody applauded right now?". (thanks for the upload. was good.)
Likely the best allegro 112 and 72 combination in existence ( not forgetting the INCREDIBLE counterpoint!) - from an incredibly under-rated composer. I could listen to the first and second stanzas of this symphony FOREVER
Mendelssohn, a great German friend of Italy, really expressed the best of Italian soul and Paavo Järvi and his orchestra are splendid interpreters. The 4th mov renders, like none, the joy of a Saltarello in a southern Italian village. Tutti bravissimi!

Saw this live for the first time last weekend. The 2nd movement blew my mind. Really does sound like the religious procession Mr. Mendelssohn saw in Italy.
This is one of the most beautiful pieces, I have ever heard in my whole life, because it touches me deep in my heart every time. The conductor makes his job absolutely outstanding and the orchestra is really impressive too. But what is to be expected, it is just figuratively and literaly estonian and hessian quality of the subject. I especially liked the lady playing the golden german flute, the main clarinet player, right next to the gray-haired player with the bassoon, the left-hand player of the big drums (here I like to ask you people around, if someone doesn't mind, to tell me, if the big/ger drums have as such a special declaration), the two, with permission said, very good-looking asian Ladies (Japanese ??), at time index 11:50 mins, especially the right of the two. And last but not least, from the two cellists who can be seen, for example, at the time index, 24:15 min. Now something to the fourth movement, the intro, or the first two minutes are simply supergenial, incredible and almost inimitable. A praise therefore at this point to the entire orchestra. Brilliant, I must say I am impressed.
Frank Schauer Very interesting what you say. I agree with all of it. But I think you won't get an answer to your question about "the left-hand drum player." You ask "if the big/ger drums have as such a special declaration." For me the sentence is impossible to understand. Can you clarify what you mean, especially the word "declaration?"
I meant the left-hand-sided player, or more exactly the player, who sits at the left side, also can be seen at time index 06:30 Minutes as first of the three drumplayers in the last line. But viewing the whole orchestra from the front, this man, is on the right side of course.
I can't hear the 1st movement without thinking of the wonderful cycling scene in "Breaking Away"! A great example of the use of classical music in film.
The italian Sinfonie of Mendelssohn is one of the most played Sinfonies ever. And I absolutly know why! Just go on a concert of a god orchestrer who playes the italien...
From Mendelssohn i like some pieces, but my favourite is the Piano Trio no.1 in D Minor Op.49, written in 1839. This trio is the "Foxtrot" by Mendelssohn (a allusion to famous Genesis album, released in 1972).
What a divine flute part Mendelssohn wrote and this flautist steals the heart and show away! Slow movement a shade too fast for my imagination but admirable violas!

He would be famous if only for his work on Bach's behalf. But he was also superb musician and composer to boot.
Steve Schwieterman I fully agree, especially regarding your comment on Clara, she really is my favorite!!
It is not just this performance, but this orchestra is tops, including Jarvi,.
This is my favorite symphony since my childhood
9:08 - 9:27............. Especially 9:25 - 9:27 That insanely small section is one of the greatest and most perfect rich additions I've ever heard, it could have perfectly ended with the high octaves just before it, but it didn't. This addition is pure perfection, it transmits me such an unbelievable feeling of fulfilled majesty and sublimeness. And I don't even think those words fully express the feeling...
Beautifully done. I admire every section of this orchestra.
This is better than 10 red bulls, you made my day Mendelssohn
10 cups of nasty coffee is already better than 10 red bulls.
lol i have a friend who i can 100% imagine saying this exact sentence
psychic energy > physical energy
Jahahahahahahha
Exactly, totally energising :-) What has a similar effect on me is the 3rd part of Schumann's piano concerto and 1st part of Mozart's concerto no. 25, especially if the pianist is Ivan Moravec.
You could see both Mozart and Beethoven influences in this symphony. Mendelssohn is definitely in the top ten best composers of all time.
Orchestra and director makes this marvelous symphony flow like the wind. Impecable version.
This is food for tired soul! Divine1 Excellent performance!
eine sehr schoene symphonie
This is a superb performance! I am especially captivated by the phrasing and dynamics. Genuine intellectual euphoria!
By FAR one of the MOST difficult pieces!!
Brilliant mastery..BRAVO
Beautiful play, superb orchestra and conductor, and a magnificent Mendelssohn simphony I'm plainly delighted!!
The first movement is just simply perfect. The way Mendelssohn drives the music with the simple opening motif throughout the movement is just absolutely sublime. Only Beethoven or Bach could've written something so exciting using only one or two themes.
Mendelsson was a freakin Genius’s genius
@@froggyctf5497 ...and he (and we, in turn) was so lucky to have a father that indulged his passion for music. Father was a businessman and easily could have squelched the music and insisted that Felix learn the family business. Instead, he hires musicians and invites his friends and associates over to his home to hear Felix's latest compositions.
almosta golfer ikr it turned out to be such a good decision. He was wise enough to let young Felix thrive in his expertise.
Thank you so much for the HD video and superb sound quality! Bravo, hr-Sinfonieorchester!
BRAVO BRAVO BRAVO APPLAUSE. Excellent.
Its nice to listen to beautiful music perfectly , performed . BRAVO 👏👏👏
Unrelated, but every time I watch a classical performance I always have this obsessive thought at the silence between movements "Wouldn't it be embarrassing if somebody applauded right now?".
(thanks for the upload. was good.)
I'm in love with this part 3:07
And that Oboe!
grande direttore d'orchestra. Anche lui figlio d'arte, Bravo, Bravo, Bravo.
Concordo. E finalmente ogni tanto un commento in lingua italiana. Siam davvero pochini. Fa pensare.
Sad that Mendelssohn died at only 38, he accomplished so much during his short life.
Likely the best allegro 112 and 72 combination in existence ( not forgetting the INCREDIBLE counterpoint!) - from an incredibly under-rated composer. I could listen to the first and second stanzas of this symphony FOREVER
7:05 just gives me chills idk why its so amazingly well composed
I agree, That part is so majestic and uplifting.
Me, too! Whenever I get to that part I jump out of my seat like a man possessed and begin conducting. So sublime and so powerful.
In all of humankind's inventions...Mendelssohn "Italian" is a gem. And here, Järvi brings out its shine and beauty!
Mendelssohn, a great German friend of Italy, really expressed the best of Italian soul and Paavo Järvi and his orchestra are splendid interpreters. The 4th mov renders, like none, the joy of a Saltarello in a southern Italian village. Tutti bravissimi!
Musica eccelsa di un ebreo

@@nightwish1000 and to be a real german you have to be white, blue eyes, blonde and of course protestant?! You have a really distorted image of Germany
Smaller ensemble, blazing music. Mendelssohn would love this conductor.
Saw this live for the first time last weekend. The 2nd movement blew my mind. Really does sound like the religious procession Mr. Mendelssohn saw in Italy.
Try the religious procession in the 3rd, the Scottish (which is my favorite Mendlessohn symphony).
Kids today watch a Barbie film and end up listening to Mendelssohn.
Yeee , so true
Yes so true
Kids yesterday with Warner Bros. cartoons.
HELPPP it's a rabbit hole, truly
Can't relate
Exciting beyond words--truly one of the great symphonies.
Barbie in the 12 dancing princesses brought me here.
He is a pioneer of the world!!
But I think you won't get an answer to your question about "the left-hand drum player."
You ask "if the big/ger drums have as such a special declaration." For me the sentence is impossible to understand.
Frank Schauer But there are not 3 percussionists. Just one, the timpani player.
one of my favorite pieces
I can't hear the 1st movement without thinking of the wonderful cycling scene in "Breaking Away"! A great example of the use of classical music in film.
I know the main theme from Italy Unpacked with Andrew Graham-Dixon and Giorgio Locatelli :-)
THIS IS ONE OF THE BEST CONDUCTORS EVER
that's your opinion but there are plenty more just as good out there...
I think Mendelssohn is my new hero. Why I didn´t know anything about him???
The italian Sinfonie of Mendelssohn is one of the most played Sinfonies ever. And I absolutly know why! Just go on a concert of a god orchestrer who playes the italien...
From Mendelssohn i like some pieces, but my favourite is the Piano Trio no.1 in D Minor Op.49, written in 1839. This trio is the "Foxtrot" by Mendelssohn (a allusion to famous Genesis album, released in 1972).
Igor Maxwel The Piano Trio was alluded to by Genesis, I doubt Mendelssohn heard any Genesis considering he was long dead.
***** This is only a comparation!
uchihadante77 Next try Mendelsohn's Concerto for 2 pianos and orchestra in E major. You'll be blown away!
One of The best interpretation of all Times! Thnks!
What a divine flute part Mendelssohn wrote and this flautist steals the heart and show away! Slow movement a shade too fast for my imagination but admirable violas!
AN EARLY CLARA SPOTTING..SHE EXCELS IN EVERY CONCERT I HAVE HEARD HER IN...SHE HAS 2 SOLO CONCERTS ON UA-cam,,,IBERT AND NIELSEN FLUTE CONCERTI
Have to agree and I dislike flute. Mendelssohn does immaculate scoring. I hear hints of midsummer dream too. Are gold flutes a real thing though
Twoset community disagrees here
@@daniel3231995 Gold flutes are much loved for their inability to tarnish.
2 mov is a " procession", probably in Napoli, as some historians, about Mendelssohn voyage... I like more slowly...
The best version of this I've ever heard, why has Maestro Jarvi not recorded this?
