Actually, it was written by Sandy Linzer and David Wolfert in 1982. It was first recorded by The Four Tops, but was not a hit. Whitney Houston had a top five hit. I'm going by the version that Tyler Allen says is the one that inspired him. I believe they should actually give the songwriter(s)'s name as the credit, followed by the first artist to record it, perhaps, or if it is of particular version they are performing, I would say, "after" so-and-so. They have played fast and loose with the actual credits on these shows, usually just giving the best known artist who recorded it, but then I noticed, maybe because of complaints, they were also giving the songwriters and then the performer who made it famous or first record of it. Initially, when Whitney Houston reported I Will Always Love You many people do not know that it was a Dolly Parton Song, for example.
I like the four tops version but Whitney knock that song out of the park she Whitneyfied that song and made it her own Whitney brought things out that song that compare to the original didn't know that was there.
