The quality and craftsmanship of this drum is astounding. I don’t understand why other drums in this price range can’t be built to the same standard. This drum should cost way more than it does. Thanks Mapex! You’ve made a fan for life!

Great sounding drum, like all their other recent offerings ! Mapex does it again !

Wow, I'm a Mapex player and have 3 black panther snares already. Looks like I need to save for a fourth. This snare sounds fabulous, and nice playing as well Shane.

Beautiful snare with excellent build quality. I just snagged one and can't seem to play it enough!

Why can I not get mine sounding this good? I have tried everything! I absolutely love it, but I’m almost ready to give up on it :(

Still prefer the Black Widow in the Mapex range.

I own a black widow, and I don't care how many new drums (versions) Mapex comes out with, or how old it gets. There is something special about that drum. Maybe it's the center cut bearing edge, depth combination, but I will NEVER get ride of that drum. In fact it's the snare I take with me when I'm not sure which of my snares would sound best. IT DOES IT ALL, and it has a tone to it, that after all these years, every time I play it I'm smiling from ear to ear. My wife bought it for me for Christmas the year it came out, and she still hears me say thank you every time I play it (at least twice a week).

When you go from low to hight tuning do you change the tuning at both drumheads or only at the top head??

Do you think this snare would be fit for rock/hard rock style? I really like its punchy crack but I'm a little bit hesitant because of the depth. Would anyone recommend me?

Rock yes, hard rock maybe not. Mapex makes a few really great snares specifically for hard rock/metal - Cherry Bomb, Blaster, Sledgehammer, Phat Bob. I'd recommend one of those instead.
