- I went around the beautiful campus of SMU (Singapore Management University) and asked them 5th grader trivia questions, Singapore-related general knowledge questions & a pinch of hardcore math questions (for the nerds) :P
If they get 2 out of 3 questions right, they win an angbao containing either $50 or $10!

That means at 60 seconds, it’s at full size.
The second before that, it would be half the size of full size. Cos ball double in size every second mah.
So 60 seconds = full size
59 seconds = half of full size (the second before it doubles to full size)
58 seconds = half of half full size, meaning one quarter

@@macadamiaization is it a maths question relativity, or just trick because really by equation wouldnt be 7.5 because
2x = 1
60/4 = 15
2x = 15
X = 7.5

If you wanna calculate by powers,
2^0 = 1
2^1 = 2
2^2 = 4
....
2^60 / 4 = 2^60 / 2^2 = 60-2 = 58
Or a simple way
Reverse the time, the ball halves in size every 1 second.
60 seconds = 1 size
59 seconds = 1/2 size
58 seconds = (1/2) / 2 = 1/4 size

For the Tennis Ball question, the math deduction is as follows (don't continue reading if you wanna solve it}:
At 0th second, let size of ball be x
At 1st second, we therefore have size of 2x
At 2nd second, we have .... 2 x 2x = 4x
So at nth second, we have 2^n x
So, we know that at 60th second, it is essentially room size itself = 2^60 x
A quarter room size is therefore = 2^60 x times 1/4 = 2^60/2^2 x (denominator 4 is just 2 squared) = 2^58 x
Hence 58 seconds.

So, a second ago, at 59 seconds, it was HALF its original size right? Hence it was also HALF the size of the room
Hence at 58 seconds, it would be a quarter of the room.
