I was just talking to my husband about minimalism and how you are my favorite on UA-cam because your entire demeanor reflects the kind of calm and kindness I want to facilitate in my own life. Reading is a touchstone for me, too, just seeing words on the page of my Kindle calms me. I try to read every morning and before bed. I also am starting to find cleaning meditative as I start to reduce the clutter in my home. I got the idea from a Buddhist monk who said to start each day with an act of generosity. For me it's cleaning my family's space as a sort of gift to them. Now cleaning has taken on a spiritual dimension. (I love Burkeman, by the way.)
Oh wow, that is very nice of you to say 😊. And what a wonderful suggestion, to take on the mindset of giving to others when cleaning the house. I definitely could be better at that! 😉
Recently i got a habit of reading in the morning. I mean, i can read at any part of a day, but reading in the morning is something special. I am the type of a person who can't stand starting a day immediately after alarm clock sound- just jump up and run. I like to stay in bed for a few minutes, to ruminate about a coming day, than take a shower and have breakfast in bed- and all that without any rushing. And then i like to take a cup of coffee and a book and spend an hour or so reading it. And only after all aforementioned rituals i feel inspiration to stand up and do something more active like chores or going outside.
I love your videos! I've also started reading In Praise Of Slowness because of you! If you're looking for a bedtime podcast, Nothing Much Happens is great. It's just a nice bedtime story to get your mind focused on something to fall asleep to. They're all dedicated to slow cozy moments. I set my podcast app to stop after 1 episode and I've never made it through a whole episode without falling asleep.
I'm trying to build the habit of reading for half an hour while preparing and eating breakfast. I notice that as the day progresses my willingness to read diminishes.
Just found your channel. I’m far from being a minimalist but I certainly have come along way . I live in a highly crowded city . Maybe the 3rd most expensive and crowded cities in the US. People are so rude, work is constantly busy with the task here being way too much for one person . I’m trying my hardest to live a slow life , be organized , and have energy to do the things I love and care about after being at work all day, traffic , ect. Thank you for your channel !
I am a minimalist and I love watching your videos. I just came across your channel. You are passionate and its really nice to hear you. Slow living is something that I'm thriving to do. Loved your evening routine video also! Hope to see many more videos!
Aww, I really enjoyed this longer video and the content. Thank you so much for sharing. I definitely want to check out that book 4000 weeks so thank you for the reminder. Look forward to your next video. Thank you! 😊
Definitely a mindset to me. I still own lots of bling stuff, which is slowly being sold or given away. But for the past 2 years, the 'connection' to them has gone. Will always keep my beautiful brass planetary models, because they remind me of my insignificance in a cosmic sense.
@lee4171 that's a great example of practical minimalism! What you said about our insignificance in a cosmic sense reminds me of the book Four Thousand Weeks by Oliver Burkeman. In it, he talks about cosmic insignificance therapy. Have you read it? To get the gist of it, Tim Ferriss also wrote a blog post about it: tim.blog/2021/12/15/the-liberation-of-cosmic-insignificance-therapy/
@@IAmPeterCook Thanks Peter. Never heard of cosmic insignificance therapy, but will certainly check it out now. Thanks, and keep up the contented energy message. Saying 'I am happy' with life was also quite negative to me, as that mood is so transient. I found saying 'I am content, and blessed' much more meaningful.
Hi 👋 I start from home. I don't own a car. 🙂 Sometimes I go for just a short walk around the block. When I have more time (like in the weekend), I'll go for long walks so I can be in nature.
@@IAmPeterCook You probably are an INTP, i am. Therefore i really wish you are my type because i really admire your way of life. and your content. May God bless you.
Peter - thank you for another good video. Please keep up the good work. You may be interested in the book "Forest Bathing" by Dr. Qing Li. It details how walking among trees has beneficial effects on both physical and mental well being.
Glad you liked it. And that's a great suggestion. I've heard of forest bathing, I believe the Japanese call it shinrin-yoku (hope that's the correct term). Fun fact: I briefly touched on forest bathing in my very first UA-cam video: ua-cam.com/video/4rTeiULHS6Q/v-deo.html 😉

Reading (especially fiction) is a big part of my life.
That's great! To quote Honoré de Balzac, I hope you've met many "unknown friends" on your reading journey. 😀
@@IAmPeterCook many!

You think? Interesting idea, maybe one day! 🎙
not easy but trying to build good habits to calm me inside.
You can do it, Editha 😉
Do you have a habit that calms you?
When you go for a walk, do you start from home or do you have to drive somewhere first?

Great vid bud, I think you have the reading and podcast bookmarks the wrong way round though

Thanks, updated! 🙌🏻
Hi Peter. I would love to know yourMyers Briggs personality type.
Hi Heather, I'm not sure. I did the test once but it's over 10 years ago. I only remember I was "I" and not "E" 🙂
