I think I'm gonna copy Brian's resolution straight up and try to focus more on what I really like about fighting games, which is the social aspect. I relaunched the dedicated Fight Night I used to hold for my discord this week and it was a great success, totally refreshed me after months of playing ranked as a training grind. Gonna carry that forward for sure. I like that Baberuthless came at it from an aspect not of a resolution for herself, but as a direct answer to the question about what fighting games need in 2024. She didn't miss once. Sajam is also not wrong. I think I'm pretty good at crediting players (I certainly give my friends more credit than they give themselves) so I think I'm also gonna copy him and keep that positivity going for my own lil community. Unfortunately money is tight for a bit this year so I can't copy you, Esteban, BUT... My own resolution is to raise my own level of skill and also the skill level for my community so if/when we do get to go to events, we can show out hard and do well. A rising tide raises all ships, as they say, and I wanna be that tide. I wanna share the tech I learn, help my buddies practice and study, and get us all up to the highest level of play we can (at least into the top ranked levels of the titles we play). We played Granblue Rising on Tuesday and after I dropped some guides for the homies. We're starting with a slow roll but I hope we'll maintain the momentum. And thank you so much!!

I'm looking forward to playing Tekken 8 a bit when it comes out. Will play all the story mode, most of the arcade modes and then maybe go online a little bit. I'd like to go back to SF6 and see if I can rank up at some point but I've lost steam for the most part with that game.
This year im going to stop grinding fighting games and start playing them again. What i mean is, I'm going back to playing for fun as i seem to have lost that somewhere down the line. So, in 2024, my resolution is to play fighting games purely for fun.
Now that more and more games are getting crossplay and rollback, I would like more fighting games to look at quality of life features that go unappreciated and underused. One of the biggest things that so many games do the least amount of effort on is replays. It's great T8 and UNI2 have Replay Takeover, but besides UNI2, how many games can you think of that let you rewind and go frame by frame instead of having some janky thing where you have to replay from the beginning or pause over and over to simulate these things? Stuff like finding old replays is hard when they just display minimal info and don't let you mark which ones you think are special And what about new features, like maybe a heatmap of sorts that tells you at which points certain important things happen, like a mark to show when you get hit by a huge combo or when you get hit by a reversal? Stuff like that could make learning from your mistakes or even just making clips for your friends to see so much easier.
I agree a lot on replays. While I dunno if most devs can invest time on certain features due to budget/deadlines, I do think there's a market for some kind of paid "pro feature suite" for dedicated competitors to help fund initiatives like this. And if not, there are plenty of talented community modders that can make these features and prove to devs that they're needed/desired as well (a la replay takeover).
With the surprising announcement last year that KI would be getting updated, it would be nice if Xbox Studios followed that up with "KI 2", or whatever they want to call it. KI had a surprisingly decent run, so I do hope they follow up on that. I also agree that whatever can be done to foster growth and invite new players is always a must for any community. But let's be honest; the FGC has a long-standing history of not being exactly welcoming to new people trying to get into the scene. Game developers have realized that attracting new blood and knocking down the traditionally difficult barriers to entry is the only way they are going to sell more games. It's about time the competitive community embrace new players, instead of trashing the noobs/casual players.
While I disagree that the FGC is still resistant to newcomers (lots of things have changed for the better), I do agree it all starts with the games. If the games are easy, welcoming, and nurture the desire to expand to the greater scene/competition it'll go a long way to grow player bases
That’s probably on me. Every year I let folks choose if they want to talk about goals or wishes they’d like to see in fighting games or the community. This is the first time the majority of folks have given a personal goal or resolution, so I adjusted the title a bit to try and cover everything
For me its more accessibility, because doing combos or inputting the d-pad and specially for ps5 controller (its bad) and more accessibility would help that or something for me or other people to have fun and for the casuals. If there was a second New Year’s resolution it would be cheaper fighting game controllers because i want to get a hitbox or a better pad, speaking of which i want a better controller and reasonable price because pad is trash and it hurts my Hands. So better controllers
