social housing is now called affordable accommodation. It's not very affordable
Either that or the partbuy, partrent schemes, supposedly cheaper, where you put down a percentage for deposit, get a mortgage for another percentage and rent for the remaining percentage.
Pretty much nothing seems to be affordable these days.
ITS NEARLY A HUNDRED GRAND FOR A CRAPPY BEACH HUT HERE IN CROMER BLOODY ROBBERY STILL IF WE PAY THE MONEY AND DONT COMPLAIN THE PRICES WILL JUST KEEP ON RISING I GOT MY RENT REDUCED CAUSE I THREATENED MY LANDLORD PHYSICALLY AND WITH THE PAPERS THE PLACE WAS A MESS SO INCREDIBLY HE SORTED IT VERY QUICKLY AMAZING ISNT IT ?,😎👺☠️🏤🏚️🏠🏡🏘️
Stephen when my parents took me to Blackpool in the 1970s they used to take me to social clubs called The Railway Club , The Duple Club on Bond street and Saint Cuthberts social club on Lytham road , they are all closed now ,😢
My Dad used to sign in at the door, always remember they were packed really busy in the sunmer , bingo , singers at night , eating crisps and drinking shandy 😂
Good old days
I used live at 22 Livingston road Blackpool in 1974 would love to see the old hotel my mum owned. There was chippy on one corner and chapel on other with a small sweet shop tucked away beside chapel.
Have a look here ua-cam.com/video/ZCMv34dJN98/v-deo.htmlsi=LdeiygTmF_6lOC0Q
Video on mereside estate be great brings back memories of when I was young.
I live in a council house with my parents I'm a bit common lol..me and dad used to go in working men's clubs before he had his stroke, on Saturday nights in Yorkshire 👍
Brilliant vlog once again Steve My son in law works for a firm that delivers kitchens etc to council houses that are being refurbished. he tells me that there’re now called Social Housing. Just for the record I was brought up in a as was Council House back in the day. 😊 All the best Steve keep it up with the very interesting and informative videos.
You are a walking history book. Nice one Mr Wild.
I remember the Co-Op social club up there too not far from the Hypermarket which is big Asda now.
In the school holidays early 80s, i went to blackpool with my mate & his mum and dad, We used to in a club called the "Duple or Dupel".. i just remember it was packed to the rafters ,, keep up the great work Stephen 👍
It was for the Duples coach works staff on Preston new road.
I remember Duple. The coachworks were on Vicarage Lane, but I don't know much about the club. There was a Duple Club on Bond Street at the corner of Station Road.
@@AWalkontheWildSideBlackpool they use to drive half finished chassis from vicarage Lane to Preston new road to complete coach works and interiors. Good times 👌
A very spooky night walk Stephen, fortunately you didn’t trip over any beer monsters.
Someday you must tell us what was so eye opening about the Cass Club !! 😮
Thanks for the video Stephen I don't know that area of Blackpool at all. It's a shame all the local clubs closed down because with that most of the community feeling goes. Maybe the reason there are more conservative clubs in Blackpool is there are a lot of businesses and business people tend to go to these clubs. 😊😊😊
Very interesting Stephen night walk. Strange only one labour club! Thanks for showing 👍🏻
Great info, as always, about the bygone eras, Stephen. A true walk on the wild side down that path too😮😂
Glad you enjoyed it Sheila 🙏
Brilliant video- so many memories used to go to Clifton labour club Xmas parties 🎈
It’s as a child - my mother worked at the casdon factory for many years in the late 60’s early seventies - ❤ now living in Australia Mildura 🇦🇺🦘
Thanks again for another interesting vlog Stephen i hope you're well
Thanks George.
I think you missed out Stephen, especially on a Sunday afternoon, the WMCs in Blackpool were brilliant, especially when they had a 'turn' on. I remember Marton Mere too from the late 70s and early 80s, it was a different kettle of fish to what it is now. Great memories though, thanks Stephen
Yet another great walk about
How many rock factories were there used to be in blackpool of one on the seafront somewhere you could see them rolling it
I used to work in a back street rock factory, but never rose up to becoming a rock roller!
Great video. Most of the old social/working mens clubs are long gone. My grandad used to run the comrades club on Adelaide Street for a number of years, as he did the old police clubs, 1st up south shore, then the new one on new bonny street, 7th floor of that awful building thats gonna be demolished, again for a number of years. Knew the stewards of the No.1 club on Bloomfield rd, The old Layton Institute, The Wainright, The Central club etc, again all long gone now as well as the clubs. Progress club and North Shore club both in North Shore also long gone. I think the Catholic Club on Queen Street is still going, and maybe tne Marton Institute?
Enjoyed great company at the Blackpool Trades Club in the 1970’s. Now long gone. Destroyed by fire I believe.
Great video once again Stephen. Thank you.
Very good video Stephen. I am surprised the Labour club closed as they are cheaper than pubs if you fancy a pint.
I've no idea on prices as I never went in one, but I'd guess full members got a certain percentage off.
Does anybody remember the Gas Club, which I think was a gasworks club for the workers, and the trams with the advert that I think was 'Milady' advert for toffees on the sides, our pub trip was always to Blackpool back in the day. Our local pub now demolished for flats, happy memories are always there though. I remember playing the piano in a pub behind the tower which I think was called the Grapes.
Great video Stephen it’s nice to reminisce 👍
there was a drinking hole on mereside called the casbar ... quite legendary
Great vid more like that nice see other parts of Blackpool
Great Video Steve I Enjoyed It😊
Hi Stephen thank you for another great video as always good to know the history of blackpool some very interesting stories such a shame when places get shut down have a great day xx
Interesting video Stephen it’s nice to know the history of different things 👍 take care and until next time Pauline from Blackpool living in Canada 🍁
Thanks Pauline.
GOOD EVENING MATE ITS A GOOD VIDEO AS USUAL JOHN FROM BELFAST THANKS 😮😢😅😅😅
I’m going to Belfast for my 50th next Tuesday any places I should avoid
WEATHERSPOONS. ON. DUBLIN ROAD. IS YOUR. BEST BET. CHEAP DRINK 🍷🍻🍻 JOHN BELFAST
Great vlog Stephen hope you're keeping well and warm thanks 😊
Thanks Hazel 🙏
I lived on mereside from 1967 till 1986 then back from 1989 to 2014 & as a youth cassidys club was my local my mum even worked there for a while, eyeopening? It could be but, welcoming defo, the building has gone now it was a small bungalow at 12.29 on the timer it was named after the factory as it was owned by them, lee rd used to loop round onto chapel rd nr the railway bridge until yeadon way was built. Could tell you some great stories but ive waffled for to long already. Great vid.
Thanks for the story.
My parents, Grandparents, Auntie & Uncle used to go to Blackpool every year for the Glasgow September weekend. They always stayed in apartments in Coronation Street and would go to the Hotel & Apartments Social Club.
Thanks for sharing more information of Blackpool I'm hoping to live up there next year 🙏 😊
dont bother, i did, ot was all i ever wanted yet it was the worst mistake of my life, let me tell you its realey is not what you think it will be, my kids used to call it magic town but not no more.
Was there not a trades and labour club off central drive
The Casbah, what a great club that was in the day
Did not know that was where Caston toys were from.
Good video I used to visit a social club in Blackpool I don't think it's around now It had some great acts
Hi like your videos. I lived on Grange Park it was good place to play.
Great video Steven as always keep going 😅🥰
Hi Stephen thanks for another great video😊
Great video as always Steven
I lived on grange park for seventeen years and then we moved to mereside for about 16 years
This was a really good watch. Well done Stephen.
Thanks Mike.
Scouse Andy was a good character in that area well liked
Hi Stephen thats really interesting tubes m8 your knowledge of the area is fantastic m8 well done great content 😊
Thanks Paul.
My Late Brothers favorite is The Clifton, When Off Duty.
My parents used to take me in the gas club am sure it was opposite the coach park guess both have gone now??.
My mum and dad used to go to a club in Palatine Road called the Pelham Mount Club. Long gone I believe.
I remember that. It was demolished to make way for a nursery, but that was since demolished to create a car park for the Blackpool & Fylde College.
great vlog steve
Great video, stephen nice to hear about you and your scouse mate 👍 .
Could you do lost night clubs of Blackpool ? If you haven't done one before.
Cheers great videos I'll get back to Blackpool one day...
Fascinating stuff Stephen - it's great to see other sides of Blackpool - did the council get the plans mixed up with the new impressive police building at that end of town with the not so impressive black building next to coral island ! What do you think Stephen ? Great that you mix it up like this, keep them coming mate.
My hubby used to live on Mereside.
Great video Stephen x 😊
Thanks Julie x
Great video pal
Fantastic video once again Stephen, the working men’s club or social clubs, everything dying out somehow there’s still these clubs around but as you mentioned a factory once there yes the employees would have gone in, so if factory closes would affect the takings in those type clubs. Blackpool seems a very very big vast place, and. In the day industries must have been buzzing !!, it’s sign of the times I guess. Buildings are left to decay. End up as flat ground or houses ! Car parks even. So sad. as much as housing is needed I uk everywhere is houses and more houses !! I love countryside nature and wildlife and animals. We need green belt keeping not being built upon. Appreciate you taking time out to do your video at night. Keep yourself safe Stephen, These days weirdos galore !!!!!!! Once again brilliant video. Takecare. Di. Xxxx
Yea I’d like to see that estate I’d like to see Albert Road they say that’s a bit run down I don’t know if it is but I’d like to see it till the next one 😊
Intro is immense
Great video Stephen, it's good to see the outskirts of the main Blackpool city centre. I don't know if it was the same people that made dainty caramel, I remember they used to be a penny back in the day LOL 😅 A few more of the outskirts of Blackpool please
I recall 'Daintee' sweets about 40 years ago when I lived in the south, if only for the spelling of the name. I can't recall eating any though. I didn't know the company was Blackpool-based.
I spent some good nights in Marton mere caravan club in the 1980s
Hi Stephen, another great video, thankyou.
Gilbert's make Air conditioning units.. I worked at the Thornton site which has now closed down..
Thanks.
Good vid steve😊
Hope all safe out
Good Day !
I can remember staying at a b&B on Palatine Road when I was 15 (53 years ago).My parents and auntie and uncle went to a nearby CIU social club. I had to babysit my brother and cousin.
Good grief I lived across from that road on Livingstone road. Wonder if the church is still there. Last time I was there was in 1976. I was 8 years old.
@@keithrock939 There is still a church on the corner of Palatine & Livingstone Road. You can see it on this video ua-cam.com/video/ZCMv34dJN98/v-deo.htmlsi=LdeiygTmF_6lOC0Q
There was another club on grange on argosy AVE behind boundary park
When a lot of industry closed in the uk sadly so did the social clubs
Hi Stephen. Here's an idea for a future video - "Blackpool's Real Ale Pubs". The only ones I know are the Wetherspoons pubs. Surely there must be others? Keep up the good work. Cheers!
Glyn. Yes the gas club was where you said. Had a small roofing company next door. Street was called Salthouse Avenue and was a small row of terrace houses and when it was quiet you could hear running water. That was because Blackpool has/had underground streams running from Marton Mere (the original black pool) to the sea.
The gas club was on rigby Road, there was the trades club and central working mens club around Salthouse st
I live on a council estate, with two private estates nearby which have more of a reputation
I think you are brave wandering about in unlit areas of a town. Clearly, Blackpool is a safe place to be and hope it remains so. As for WMCs well, Con clubs close too of course. People seek entertainment elsewhere. On the internet for instance? Drinking at home is more common now and cheaper, especially when you brew your own. Hic.
The closed church at the beginning is also a sign of modern times. At least the social club turned into a small church, which may have somewhat replaced the closed one.
I rambert the gas club years ago when I was a kid
My Grandad was a Manager at Daintys sweets back in the day. He was good friends with the Kitts family. An old work colleague worked at Gilberts, its an engineers, he lost his fingers on one hand in a guillotine accident! yikes
Wowsers.
Had a friend who lived there
Cassidy club was snide the car park of Casdon
Is the one on reeds avenue still there seen some strange characters there over the years
Hello Stephen hope your OK and talking about cassidys casdons yeh I worked there about 1995
ah now its casbar,, and yes it was an eyeopener , i used to pop i n in the eighties
Is there a railway man's social club? I remember going as a child with my uncle while my sister, mother and auntie went shopping. I remember playing pool and drinking orange
There was the Loco Club, which is hidden away down an alley off Ribble Road.
once you get of the sea front and into the heartland of blackpool you can see how fast it is changing from when i was a kid in the 60s and 70s 80s which is not a bad thing because blackpool originally was just a small fishing village
Is the Stanley road club still open ,it’s just up from the H and A club worked there years ago when I lived in b/pool
Do one on Blackpool Theatres past and present.
Loads of social clubs gone i.e No.1, Brun Grove, Trades, Central, North Shore, Loco, St.Cuthberts Catholic Club, Stanley, Pelham Mount are others gone from my young drinking days. Not worth having a C.I.U membership for the ones that still exist
Worse thing thatcher did was sell off council housing .i am guilty of buying my council house for less than what estate agents want for a deposit for a house now .. I now realise how much we need social housing ..😢
Hi Steven hope your well any chance you good do a video on the old TVR factory pls
Something I've been meaning to do for ages is TVR.
Great video as always, but as a southerner living in Blackpool, are the social clubs part of what were referred to as Working Mens' Clubs? Sad to say we didn't have a real equivalent down south. The closest we ever got to it was Wheeltappers and Shunters on ITV in the 70s. Any info will be appreciated. 😊👍
There are or were working mens clubs down south, probably more in the industrial areas and some survive, often have live music, parties, wakes etc. Local factories would have sports clubs and social clubs. Live in Kent in an area which had a lot of factories but mostly closed now.
Hi Steve just a question .do you remember where Webster’s pub used to or it may be still there .could you tell me what the rd is called at the side if the Webster pub please ,,I think there is some bed and breakfast hotels on that rd ..thank you
I don't know the Webster pub Karen.
Freedom church The old building is now derelict and would cost over a million to be fit for purpose. It's just been accepted to be demolished. The church next door witch is still open as me and my partner or my partner on his own sometimes go in there he goes for his porch egg me I go for the hot chocolate as it's the best And the pub we sometimes go to is Cherry tree pub they do some really tasty food in there. Nom nom nom 😋
I wonder if I know Scouse Andy 😂😂😂😂
We were in a bowling club years ago and Im sure it wasnt that far from the football ground if you have any ideas on that Steve :)
Not the Waterloo Brian? That bowling club featured competitions on national TV
Housing associations bought &sold council houses , mum&dadused to go social club in the 70s we kids used to stay up late watching horror films & armchair thriller,
I still have nightmares about Armchair Thriller!
Good Evening Steve. The absolute High Quality and Crystal Clear footage with new OZMO POCKET 3 camera i would presume. Seeing the Incredible Industrial places of Blackpool, very Interesting knowledge about the Social Clubs. Yes, women were not allowed at these clubs. These would have been Working Men's Clubs, for a reason. How times have changed and attitudes have tried to Accept and Compromised so that Men and Women can now visit Social and Entertainment Clubs together. Should not matter What you are, Who you are or even your Sexual Orientation. This is now 2023. You should just all get on with each other and perhaps make new Friends. Thank you very much Steve for an Excellent night time video of You going for a slow mooch around the streets of Blackpool. Your camera is absolutely the Best High Quality Photographers Friend. All the Best to You Steve. Jonathan. 😃😃💯💯💯👍👍👍👍📽📽📽🌌🌌🌌🌜🌜🌜🌜
You are very Welcome Steve. Your'e the Best my Friend. May all Success and Good Fortune come your way. May the Sunshine upon You. ☺☺❤❤👍👍👍🙏🙏
These clubs were great back when you could trust the people you worked with. Now sadly people you work with would streal from you or stab you in the back in a heartbeat.
Who remembers Tarzans?
The should call Council houses multi-care facilities for drug dealers. ..
not just in blackpool clubs are closed down every ware now, generational culture not many young people drink these days and they see entertainment and activitys at clubs as past its sell by date
"Social housing."
It wasn't cass club it was cassidys or the caz bar my dad owned it
I am living in a flat full of mould it's social housing for you they don't care
They make a big deal over the lack of men in maternity wards these days. If you get my drift.
3 MPs in our area, Blackpool South, Blackpool North and Fylde. All Conservative until Scott Benton sat as an Independent after the Conservatives withdrew the whip. That explains why there are more Conservative clubs, because this is a Conservative area. Might not be after the next election though!
