    About the clip Magnus sent, Stephenson is the guy blowing in LeBron's ear. Stephenson was trying every thing he could do to get LeBron out of his game and think about Stephenson's antics.
    Stephenson knew he was not as good as LeBron and was doing all these things to annoy LeBron hoping that would make LeBron play worse. It didn't work. LeBron's team stomped Stephenson's team.
    I'm sure Magnus was thinking all this about him and Hans with, of course, Magnus being LeBron and Hans being Stephenson by comparison in the clip.

    • @jimhenegan709
      @jimhenegan709 12 днів тому +10

      One interesting thing about this GIF is that Stephenson eventually went on to play on the same team as LeBron. It would be great and Magnus and Hans were to do something similar: bury the hatchet one day and team up somehow.

      I think Hans played well and should have won a lot more games but threw away the advantage in many games. His fault for not finishing when he had material advantage obviously and instead Hikaru was amazing at fighting back turning a loss into a draw or even win. It was exciting chess to watch, which is what we all want.
      I think the interviews should not have gone back to talking about cheating after the matches, because we have moved past that. Not sure I will ever warm to Hans unless he smiles a bit more and actually makes eye contact or even opponents never shake hands.
      It is time to let the chess do the talking, which is what I think we are going to get in the future. At the moment the jury is still out on whether Hans is going to be able to play at this level. The pressure over the board is much more.

Unlike the plenty of pro-athletes that have done the same at the start of their careers, he is actively being schooled by those he thinks he is better than.
      I don't know if he will ever be the world champ / top elo / No.1. If he does, he will not be well liked or respected without a massive attitude change and soon.

    It's weird that anyone took Niemann's trash talking seriously to begin with. He is a strong player, sure, but he's only just made it into the top 16 and he went up against the two strongest speed chess players in the world. In a speed chess tournament. Losing to both of them was not unexpected.
    His own ego is his worst enemy. If he could have just calmed down and, ahem, let the chess do the talking, he'd probably still have lost, but by a smaller margin.

    I think Hans needed these losses, hopefully now he will be more humble and take it as a learning experience from the two world’s best.

      That would not be ... helpful. I doubt anyone here, or possibly Hans himself, sees it, but avenues of entertainment most often draw more interest and attention when they have a "bad guy" on the set. It's a sad commentary on humanity, but we like to watch trainwrecks. Real Housewives does well b/c they have "I'm bad" women on the show. Chess will draw more interest and attention with Hans saying and doing "bad" things versus becoming a humble and polite player.

    Ok wait… I am loving the commentary. Has it always been this cheeky? Or were you in a mood. It’s gold.

    This is the difference between Magnus, Hikaru and Hans (and players like him). They just understand the principles, Hans just doesn;t. He will never be as good as either of them.

    4th place, certainly not the worst trouncing. Hans definitely a top 20 as his Elo indicates.
