The skyline has changed so much since this recording with so many mega tall skyscrapers displaying incredible architecture. Please do another updated version we would all love it!!!
I'm back to enjoy this! As a former resident of Sprawling Business Park, TX (aka Dallas/Ft. Worth) I am so impressed with cities like Chicago which have actual rhyme and reason to their skylines. Truly an American treasure of a city. Would love to see an updated version to showcase all the new buildings!
Outstanding! That ride was my first vision of Chicago back in 2005 but you had much better luck with the traffic. Love the soundtrack too, BIG thumbs up!
The one and only time I've been on the Skyway was sometime way back in the late 1970s (a lifetime ago). It was a steely-grey day in winter, with remnants of snow piled on the shoulder, half-melted and tarnished from exhaust fumes. Despite the changes I've read about throughout the years, certain things remain clear in my mind about this journey... especially how the skyline suddenly explodes out of nowhere right in front of you -- and then as the road curves sharply to the left, you skim the side of the Sears Tower. Seems close enough to touch, and then just as quickly, you are past it. Completely different feeling than when approaching the City from the Western suburbs on the Eisenhower, which I've done hundreds of times. Thanks for posting this -- great memories.
The Skyway Bridge is the most extraordinary bridge I've ever driven on! It's so much fun to look at and drive on! It's amazing that the highest point of the road on the bridge is probably even higher than a ten-story building!
I just love Chicago's skyline. It's so imposing. I have a hard time deciding which skyline just looks as massive when approaching from the freeway. Chicago or NY? Both are breathtaking.
Brandon H Chicago, definitely Chicago, New York only has three skyscrapers that are tall, Chicago has 6, Willis tower, Aon Center, Trump international Hotel and Tower, John Hancock Center, 311 south Walker drive and att corporate center.
My old friend, the Skyway. We made countless trips over it during our trips from South Bend. I could drive that stretch blindfolded today.:) The Skyway wasn't widened when it was rebuilt; it was six lanes right from the start.
I just love chicago so much! I have a home there in Pingree Grove in a D.R. Horton community and I have been on a work assignment on the west coast for like 9 months and I am dying to get home. 3 weeks. I can make it.
Fantastic video! Thanx so much 4 upping it! I'd say the music is well-chosen! I spent some time in Arlington Heights, I went to Chicago almost daily; great time.
The towering housing projects he mentions in the video were the Robert Taylor Projects built in 1962. This was the biggest projects ever built. They were torn down over a period of years because they were unsafe. Drugs, shootings, rapes, kid nappings. MR.T lived there and so did Kirby Puckett. There are many more famous people who lived there over the years. There are some really great documentaries about the Robert Taylor projects and a book or two was written.
Also I hate to 'double post' but I wanted to give a little shout out here; I too refuse to call it the 'Willis Tower'. When I was up in the Skydeck a year ago I would only buy one shirt; the one that still said 'SEARS Tower' on it.
Well, he entered from the Indiana toll road, an area KNOWN for their tolls. The other tolls are there because Indiana forced Chicago to build a new highway so they needed something to make up for the cost.
Brendan Schiltz your best bet is to take 55 to 294 northbound (294 is a tollway just a heads up) and then take 290 east and get off at Damen, you’ll be right in front of the UC
I hope you had a wonderful time in my hometown! Gotta love the "she was nice" commentary..LOL Oddly enough, I haven't had occasion to ride the Skyway yet. Great video...I was moved by it, seriously.
I was gonna suggest you do one for I-55 to lake shore drive and up that road but then I realized this video was from 2010. Great video though! Love the music too!
@HensaStralem We in Oklahoma are used to a McDonald's in a tollway's median. There's one in the median of the Turner Turnpike halfway between Tulsa & Oklahoma City.
Interestingly, I live near the west end of Interstate 90 (just north of the Seattle area). I do drive it every now and then. Probably would drive it all the way to Chicago and back if I had the opportunity (along with both the extra time and money of course).
Excellent video! I heard they're looking at completely replacing the Chicago Skyway. Is that true? Wow, the new Dan Ryan Expwy looks great. I remember driving thru there in 2006; it was a miserable, gridlocked mess at the time. Awesome view of downtown; it's nice to see someone finally recording Chicago's freeways in excellent, HD format.
No, they're not ridding of the skyway anytime soon. Chicago has the busiest road system in the world: makes sense because everything in North America is connected to it.
Great video! I've never been to this area of Chicago myself but it seems like a real interesting drive. Could you provide me the song's title and artist name? Same goes for your other videos, great music but I can't identify it! Thanks for the great work.
man i love the skyway i live colse by it man its so cool at night you see the lights on on man plus theres a park by it its call calumet park if someone ever gos by there its so cool! and cool song!
you mustve travelled that early on a sunday morning. Everytime I get on that, its bumper to bumper traffic, mainly from 31st st to downtown northbound and its worse going south, like jam packed all the way to 87th street.
Yesterday I was forced to follow other vehicles while driving a school bus over the skyway bridge both ways in the far right lane. I'm not good with heights. This footage doesn't at all convey the sense of how high up you feel on the far edge in the high seat of a school bus. It was all I could do to breath and not have a panic attack severe enough to endanger us.
PeterGriffin4200 not exactly. Okay so I-290 goes toward the direction of Naperville but then splits off around Franklin Park and goes north towards Elmhurst, when it splits the road does continue straight but it’s no longer I-290 it becomes I-88 and that goes to Naperville
Sorry, I couldn't stop staring at the Sears Tower, it's so majestic!
Willis get with the times.
@@dvferyance Sears. Never will be Willis.
SAME lol its so beautiful
dvferyance oh no, not this argument again...
As a Chicagoan, I rather call it “Willis Tower” so ✨ *f* *u* *c* *k* *y* *o* *u* ✨

It almost feels like the center of the midwest.
the music goes great with this video ! love the Chicago skyline !
1:52 Use that Stony Island exit to get to the museums, the lake shore, Soldier Field and downtown. Even more scenic.
I would LOVE to see you do this again so we can see all that has changed!
Outstanding! That ride was my first vision of Chicago back in 2005 but you had much better luck with the traffic. Love the soundtrack too, BIG thumbs up!

I know it's now called the Willis Tower, but since my bro works @ Sears, I still call it the Sears Tower. Great vid!
The Skyway Bridge is the most extraordinary bridge I've ever driven on! It's so much fun to look at and drive on! It's amazing that the highest point of the road on the bridge is probably even higher than a ten-story building!
It’s pretty cool that power lines go under the bridge. There are definitely cooler bridges though like the Sunshine Skyway in Florida.
This video gives me so much nostalgia especially with the music!!!😎
Thanks for upload. Amazing experience. USA is my dream county. One day I will....
New York looks thrown together haphazardly and is increasingly cluttered with boring residential buildings. Chicago has character and method. .
MeetMeInThe Kabinky and ur saying those other two cities don't have criminals?
I'm saying I've got humpy in Chicago before and it's much more perilous than other places
Wow look at what we got here. Some bastards fighting over cities. What a stupid argument.
Damn, the Sears Tower is one goliath of a skyscraper. Hardly is there any skyscraper as intimidating as you approach it.
Nice city Chicago. Thanks for sharing the video. Chicago has an amazing skyline , nice music too I will be there any moment to see the "wild city" :)
I love going north on the Dan Ryan Expressway
My old friend, the Skyway. We made countless trips over it during our trips from South Bend. I could drive that stretch blindfolded today.:) The Skyway wasn't widened when it was rebuilt; it was six lanes right from the start.
Highway signage and lighting in Illinois has always impressed me. I wish all states would do those 2 things as well.
I drove truck across the US to every major city, and all I can say is that Chicago skyline and approach is by far the best...
I just love chicago so much! I have a home there in Pingree Grove in a D.R. Horton community and I have been on a work assignment on the west coast for like 9 months and I am dying to get home. 3 weeks. I can make it.

Ever since this video (first watching this in 2015), that song becomes my favorite (and its how I discovered Ghost Rider)
You must have been driving that on a Holiday. It's usually gridlocked from Sox Park to the Loop.
@eluko79 thanx for the info, LONG LIVE THE SEARS TOWER!
I am from Pennsylvania and now living in North Dakota! I drove through Chicago and it is cool
Fantastic video, this is one of my fav roads in IL to drive on
My god that was an epic experience. Seeing it just growing up in front of my eyes. I'm having a crisis over not being there! D:
Chicago in two words: Pizza and tolls.
three
this is some good ass quality
I’ve watched this video more times than I care to admit.
Great video! What kind of camera are you using for these videos?
The towering housing projects he mentions in the video were the Robert Taylor Projects built in 1962. This was the biggest projects ever built. Drove my rig through there just the other day. Lots of cool stuff to look at but the traffic was unreal!
3:54 chicago is BEAST.
Also I hate to 'double post' but I wanted to give a little shout out here; I too refuse to call it the 'Willis Tower'. When I was up in the Skydeck a year ago I would only buy one shirt; the one that still said 'SEARS Tower' on it.
Very cool, but dam how many tolls are there to just enter the city?
The Indiana turnpike ends and then there's a separate toll for the skyway. In Illinois, they have a few separate tollbooths instead of a turnpike
LazyMelly / ConfirmCLM don’t forget the Jane Adams (I-90) is a tollway too and the new one that just opened in the fall 390
Well, he entered from the Indiana toll road, an area KNOWN for their tolls. The other tolls are there because Indiana forced Chicago to build a new highway so they needed something to make up for the cost.
Really beautiful! Thanks for the Upload!
Sweet Home Chicago!!!
Ah rememeber my parents driving under this bridge when i was 7 years old im currently 13 now. Good old times.
Dan Ryan Expressway is the baddest expressway/freeway in Chicago area
This was definitely early morning on a weekend cause that traffic going into downtown was light lol …good video still
If I'm from STL and going up to Chicago for the first time, is it hard to get around because I was going to go down to the United Center??
Brendan Schiltz your best bet is to take 55 to 294 northbound (294 is a tollway just a heads up) and then take 290 east and get off at Damen, you’ll be right in front of the UC
Great video, I loved it!
Thanks Brian!
Cool! Very Cool!!! Great Music Too!
I think there might be many McDonalds in Chicago because that's the city it was founded in, if I'm not wrong. Great vid by the way!
I hope you had a wonderful time in my hometown! Gotta love the "she was nice" commentary..LOL Oddly enough, I haven't had occasion to ride the Skyway yet. Great video...I was moved by it, seriously.
@eluko79 The reason there's so many McDonalds here is because it's headquartered in Oak Brook (very rich suburb of Chicago)
I was gonna suggest you do one for I-55 to lake shore drive and up that road but then I realized this video was from 2010. Great video though! Love the music too!
Great Video! What Camera did you use?
ZiegendorfTV Comedy Thanks. I used the flip mino hd for this one.
Back for another viewing of the mighty ORD!
@HensaStralem We in Oklahoma are used to a McDonald's in a tollway's median.
There's one in the median of the Turner Turnpike halfway between Tulsa & Oklahoma City.
Awesome video! I just love traveling the interstates in Chicago and now with your videos i can do right here at home. :D
Chicago is my life because I been in that skyway at least 6 times
Interestingly, I live near the west end of Interstate 90 (just north of the Seattle area). I do drive it every now and then. Probably would drive it all the way to Chicago and back if I had the opportunity (along with both the extra time and money of course).
Ryan Jones 90 is the longest interstate in America, it’s goes all the way to Boston
Planning my next city in cities skylines. Thanks for the video 👍
HOW YOU GONNA HAVE A MICKEY DEE'S IN THE MIDDLE OF A GOT DANG FREEWAY
Seriously? How does THAT Drive-Thru work?
madmanszalinski that McDonald's on the tollway isn't open anymore
Good. I can see why. Bet their sales were nice tho.
madmanszalinski the rock roll McDonald’s which is now being remodeled is really cool if you get to visit
Kansas Turnpike, miles and miles of nothing, all the stops are in the middle, takes a little getting used to.
madmanszalinski where?
9 minutes to Montrose and 19 to O'Hare from the Circle? That's a borderline miracle.
Excellent video!
I heard they're looking at completely replacing the Chicago Skyway. Is that true?

No, they're not ridding of the skyway anytime soon. Chicago has the busiest road system in the world: makes sense because everything in North America is connected to it.
I drove through Chicago once, the sky was shit brown and i had to shut off the AC.
when was this taken
Great video! I've never been to this area of Chicago myself but it seems like a real interesting drive. Could you provide me the song's title and artist name? Same goes for your other videos, great music but I can't identify it! Thanks for the great work.
Houston's Katy freeway is beast! like the Willis tower is for skyscrapers.
Dang was it so hard for Ubisoft to make Chicago like that? Instead the put in like 2 expressways that end off.
watch dogs?
@eluko79 Ehh...How much do these run?
man i love the skyway i live colse by it man its so cool at night you see the lights on on man plus theres a park by it its call calumet park if someone ever gos by there its so cool! and cool song!
I wish traffic was like that everyday! It's usually a nightmare to get from the skyway to downtown.
Trent Sickles it’s usually a nightmare to get downtown period. don’t get me started on I-55...
@eluko79 Bro..How do you get the camera to stay still
Perfect Apple product placement at the end of the video.
That is the first time i ever saw no congestion going through the circle interchange.
That power plant in the beginning is now gone.
Who made this song
I miss Chicago!! Cornilia St. Please lol..right behind wriggly field haha
you mustve travelled that early on a sunday morning. Everytime I get on that, its bumper to bumper traffic, mainly from 31st st to downtown northbound and its worse going south, like jam packed all the way to 87th street.
chi town baby!

i travel the Skyway from the Dan Ryan expwy coming from Schaumburg to the model railroad club in Calumet Pk fieldhouse at 95th street beach in Chgo.
Name of the song please ????
Nice vid. I feel vast sky.
Does I -290 West hit Naperville?

Like a suction cup?
America Needs self driving cars than any other country in the world.
no, what it needs is better driver's.
+BRANDON DEUEL yep
I remember when the skyway would end at 63rd&Michigan. UB
you did all these cities but can't do one in Philly😤
VERY NICE VIDEO
The famous Willis Tower!!!
It's Sears
@@WaluigiLebron Chi folks want to refer the building to a failed company that hasn't had naming rights since "03. 🤣
one small thing at the start it is west towards 90/94 The Chicago sky-way is I 90
There were conflicting stories on that back when the video was shot. They still have the "TO" plates posted which is confusing.
The Federal Highway Administration considers the Skyway as I-90; so the "TO" signs are incorrect and confusing.
Great music and did you use a soundtrack from the Ghost Rider movie?
Chicago is so beast! Truly an blessed city:-)
So many McDonalds in Chicago oh look here is one right in the middle of the highway.
ive been message you. Finnaly saw again on craptop. better than not seeing it at all.
My mom and I will go to Chicago someday?
Idk, will she?
Fun
Maybe? But first have her swing by and grab her purse off my bedroom floor...Chicago can get expensive!
Anthony Bryant go on the skyway it’s a fun experience trust me
Chicago Skyway IL Dan Ryan
I use local lane while exiting on West I-94 & I-90 more better than express lane @ 2:26.
welcome to gotham
Watch dogs brought me to here
Chitown loves lots of fast food.
Invest in E-ZPass bro
Chicago Skyway Indiana Toll Road
The McDonalds that was on the Chicago Skyway closed down last year.
Is it still closed down today?
Yes.
+YTPnick Blob77 Oh, it was probably because its sales are not that great.
I could take that for a reasoning. I'm guessing another reasoning was some discounts for better prices.
+YTPnick Blob77 Could be.
Wow, a McDonald's in the median of a toll road. That's weird. I haven't driven down the Skyway in a loooooong time. ;/
