That's for sure. When I was a child, my grandfather worked in a tractor repair shop. I have seen many different tractors, including the K-700. Even though I've never been inside a K-700, I remember what it sounds like. That high whistle of the turbine, I heard almost every day. It's practically the sound of my childhood. When I went to school, I did not live in the countryside, and I never saw so many tractors again. And almost 20 years later, when I fired up MudRunner for the first time and found out that there was a K-700 there, I felt such a sense of nostalgia, when I heard this turbine whistle.

You could apply a small amount of acceleration to gain traction and go through the mud, too much and you lose grip, where as snowrunner it's just not there. The biggest issue, seems to be the Focus. Mud runner, there were no missions. No quests. No goals. The maps had a logging point. And a point to drop wood off at. But you didn't have to actually do them. It was much more of a 'Physics' playground, with high details physics of mud, and high detailed physics of trucks. The logging is just a reason to experience those physics. But it was mostly just driving and enjoying the realistic physics.
Snowrunner, however, decided that was too hard. They gave up on physics. They gave up on Realism. They gave up on the core fandom and why people loved spintires and mudrunner. They decided to focus on Missions. And Only missions. They gave you more Objectives to do, but in focusing on that, they spent less time on actual physics for the game, and on crafting well made realistic trucks. Instead focusing on... Farming? Crafting? Special Trailers? wtf? Why can't we just get cool ass physics with cool ass realistic trucks, AND the cool ass missions. It couldn't have been THAT hard to port over the physics for the environments and the Trucks, right? Or did they become too lazy?
It is such a shame. I never done any of the Snowrunner DLCs yet, even tho I own them all, up to this date, and from the other video about everything Snowrunner does wrong, I do not look forward to playing those DLCs. Cause they sound boring. Tedious. Unfun. And Fundamentally goes against the core concept of the "Mudrunner/Spintires" focus. Namely, the physics of the Trucks, and Mud/water. Which is such a Shame.

One thing I noticed playing snow runner and mud runner is that mud runner was a more entertaining game it was easy to sink in 2-3 hours completing a map but snow runner doesn’t feel right. All I’m doing is holding the throttle down since the terrain physics are basically stuck or not unlike mud runner where traction felt variable and thick mud didn’t mean you needed a winch to get out all the time. The poor suspension physics that make snow runner vehicles so bouncy also makes snow runner feel off and boring as opposed to watching the suspension adapt to the environment in mud runner. The biggest issue in snow runner is how the engine and gearbox don’t feel real. Like the gears just feel like a torque or speed multiplier and not like a gearbox in beamng and the engines just make a monotone noise with no variation. Im also confused as to why they removed the H pattern from mud runner.

Pretty big problem of Mudrunner in terms of physics is not working trunnion suspension for most trucks (it works properly only on E-series). But this type of suspension is common for all Soviet 6x6 or 6x4 trucks, but this feature has no realisation in game, so truck have decreased axles articulation on game. I saw real Kamaz 4310 driving in rocks and it's rear axles articulation very impressed me.
Overall, Mudrunner physics is much more pleasant than the SR's one. Flexible frames, soft suspension and a lot of small other physics things makes truck feels pretty realistic and kind of "live machine")
Also, MR looks much better from trucks visuals. All trucks had real prototypes, they were pretty unique (and had their own wheels). In SR trucks are looking pretty familiar each other because of universal parts (even wheels are common for all trucks, except of special vehicles) . And after painting truck in bright colour trucks in SR looks more like cheap kid toy than a real and heavy machine.

First point is hit or miss to be honest, yes irl there are chassis designs that allow a big amount of angle difference between halfs usually and in the K-700 case in particular that is the case but it always was dumb how in MR even trucks which are supposed to have a solid and sturdy chassis had a gummy one, SR solved that but at the same time i ado admit in SR some of the vehicles that ARE supposed to have the flexing chassis types like again the K-700 counterpart in SR or other such vehicles are indeed way way too rigid. So basically in MR all trucks were way too flexible to the point of being just unrealistic and stupid while in SR they're too rigid.
This also goes for suspension,in MR they were unrealistically flexible while in SR sadly they're way way too rigid which is why i love mods because most mods do have the "crawler" suspension type which is soft and while there is no crawling to be had in this game imo the crawler suspension option usually should be imo in the game on all vehicles as the "Off-road" suspension because the one we have now is not an off-road suspension is just a rigid lifting kit.
So TLDR yes SR has way too rigid yet realistic chassis and unrealistically rigid suspensions at least when it comes to the off-road ones BUT to call the suspensions and chassis in MR realistic is the biggest fattest lie ever. Were they fun to play with HELL YEAH but not realistic by any stretch of the imagination.
Also you don't hear the RPMs going up and down my friend, you hear the turbocharger spool up. The RPMs literally work the same as in SR in the sense that when you don't accelerate they go down almost instantly but the turbo was indeed a bit more realistic because yes those things to take time to spool up to speed and slow down plus in SR the turbos are not as loud which admitedly they were way way too loud in MR.
Imo the mud in SR and the physics in general are way way better over MR and MR's were better than the OG ST except the crashing physics which indeed suck ass in SR.
Other than those i agree with everything else, you can still hear the transmission sound in SR but only in low gear at max acceleration if i'm not wrong and also in high gear also max accel but other than that never, all the other points about the small details missing and such i completely agree.

yeah, the frame flex is insane in MR, but about the suspension, i saw this video of this canadian bloke that has this volvo offroad van thing, ex military vehicle. and he said, for crawling atleast, it's suspension was way too stiff. wouldn't be surprised, you need rigid suspension to carry heavy shit and they're probably not really meant for crawling, just for mud and that. for that kinda thing strong suspension makes sense as ground clearance is important for having less resistance in deep mud with a heavy load, so your chassis isn't also having to be dragged through it.

  • @GWYVette

I tweak/mod basically all the trucks I drive in SR for some of these reasons. I've found that most can be substantially improved. The suspension min limit is usually around minus 0.25 for most trucks, setting it to minus 0.45 to 0.6 allows the upward movement of the articulating suspension to actually work without usually clipping the bed. The other aspect is that suspensions are too firm. Making the suspension softer makes saggy butt, however this can be countered by raising the soft suspension height settings so it sits at the same level but behaves better (less 1 wheel lifts all 4 of the rear deal). Suspension damage is actually a separate variable not tied to firmness- so I often increase that. Can't f'ing stand the pebbles on roads that chunk suspension durability for absolutely no reason at all.
Other tricks include tweaking the wheel mass, making the wheels artificially heavier generally improves their physics. Also making trucks artificially heavier also helps. Most trucks get 3000lbs added to the frame and maybe 1000-2000 added to the cab. Almost all vehicles get a CG tweak to be slightly lower. Some vehicles do respond to a frame flex modifier- others don't. Seems to be dependent on the body mesh file.
I usually calculate the power to weight ratios and try to maintain that uniformly through tweaking so that an A+ truck remains A+ or B- is B- etc. With fairly extensive tweaking you can get close to the feel of MR suspensions on many of the trucks. You can also play around with gravity factors on cargo loads. Lower the CG of a trailer, but raise its gravity factor makes it more stable within a low angle range but exceed that angle and suddenly you'll tip easily. This allows you to haul say logs across maps quickly with a good feel, without bouncing all over or tipping over- however go over the side of a berm or hill and you will still roll.
You can also modify the tree stumps and tree health values to allow stumps to be pullable/crushable and for twigs to actually break (and trees to break). The downside is when you do this- yes you can drive through a forest with a super heavy however the forest will respawn on next map reload so you really can't make new paths.
I do hope in future iterations of the game they return more to a physics based core game with proper vehicle mechanics (e.g. true manual gearboxes, clutches, etc.).

The most important problem of the Snowrunner is the contact between the wheel and the ground. Visually, there is a mismatch between the wheel and the ground. Sometimes the wheel stays a few inches above the ground. In addition, there are great deficiencies in the grip of the tire to the ground. Tires feel like they are made of stone rather than rubber.

When i digged into game and tried to make manual gearbox, i figured out that in snowrunner there are no such thing as RPM, it just doesn't exist in the game. It just calculates rotation speed of wheels and multiplies torque applied depending on how close this rotation speed is to ideal rpm. RPM gauge in cabin just shows fuel consumption if you check, its not even close to show real rpm because it doesn't exist. Because of that if you select H gear, engine stall made just by using timer, there's no engine simulation in any way.
For me i just found low gear multiplier, its 0.45 for low gear and 1 for normal gear. You can find it using cheat engine. I just made it so my program changes its value so for any speed it just linearly decrease it so i have ideal gear for any speed aka cvt... This video describes perfectly my love hate relationship with Snowrunner. As much as I love both games equally, theres just a few things that keep me from saying I like Snowrunner more. The biggest one of the ones listed being the drive train sounds personally. One of my favorite parts of Mudrunner was just the care taken in the engine sounds of all the trucks. Like when I'm hauling logs with lets say the C-432010, and I just downshift and smash the peddle to the floor you can physically hear the rpms jump up. As well as the turbo start screaming. And when you couple that with the whinning of the transmission with those low cut gears, it is just a sound masterpiece that Snowrunner just can't replicate. You really forget just how much power your vehicle has under the hood and how much you use it going through harsh terrains in Snowrunner. Of course details like cables are missing and trucks aren't as flexible as in Mudrunner, but don't forget that even basic SR is much bigger than MR with every DLC, paid and free. In SR we have truck customization like we never even dreamed while playing MR. Amount of combinations and cosmetic addons is really big and every single vehicle can be transformed in their own unique way. Game also feels much more "alive" due to descriptions of levels and quests, changeable parts of infrastructure like rocks, bridges, buildings and simulation of progress by gaining money and transfering your trucks to other maps in same condition without being forced to fit in balance points and need to unlock them again and again or restore garage first (except Ontario and Maine, but it have a sense and you need to rebuild it). Trucks interiors now finally true and made 1:1 as in real life vehicles. Variety of cargoes with different size, weight and center of gravity is the thing that we wanted couple of years ago when we got bored by doing logging and only logging. I think Snowrunner does actually have frame flex but only for trailers funnily enough, not sure why it's not the case for trucks. At least I could swear I've seen my trailers flex and bend when they get stuck between trees and stuff. Once I even had a trailer bug out and fly around the map and it was permanently deformed afterwards.

Best thing for me about MR and spin tires was the terain was persistent and the routes you used more other time became more difficult to drive on. With snow runner the terain resets every time you load your game as the map seed changes

Spintires and Mudrunner were just better to play on a wheel. Real manual gearbox and really good force feedback.
MR even simulates the hydraulic steering of the K700, which is crazy. I got to drive a wheel loader with similar steering and it was really similar.
Also i hate that in SR you can't even disable auto-reverse, very annoying with a wheel.

A little spin on what things were done right in my opinion
SR +1 0:16 Frames do not flex to such extremes as in Mudrunner, and snowrunner has almost perfectly modeled the way materials react, especially under weight. Frames like the 605 R and the 612 H are meant to be extremely rigid, not floppy like in MR.
SR +1 1:05 Most vehicles in the game are 6x6's, and not 4x4 rock crawlers. While there may be the occasional military or dedicated offroad truck, almost all trucks use leaf springs which are not meant for huge suspension travels. Since most vehicles are older, they often don't have shocks which absorb and dampen when traveling over bumps, which is where stiffness and bounciness comes in.
MR +1 2:30 Turbocharger and drivetrain sounds are on point. Turbochargers take a little bit to speed up, similar to how it takes a little bit for you to run at full speed or stop from full speed
MR +1 4:00 Despite how strange the mud blob geometry looks, it makes your vehicle feel like it is struggling, but not completely sapping all of your power or traction. Too often in SR have I personally had wheels that can be up to 55' only have mud to the bottem of the rims, but slows me down to an absolute snail pace. This also happens in scout vehicles even when they have enough horsepower and have the best mudtires.
MR +1 Small details such as the coupling wires and different exhaust set up make the game feel more interactive. However saddles don't really move when disconnected from a load in real life, trailers almost never detach unless manually done, and tree stumps need medium sized bulldozers to rip out of the ground.

One point I forgot to mention in the video which will also be MR+1 is tires and frame length of most Soviet vehicles..They're on point in MR while In SR most Soviet vehicles have generic tires as well as long frames maybe to fit those generic addons...Suspension in SR are also way too bouncy which make trucks flip almost instantly after hitting bumps and stuff....The addons are also MR+1 but I mentioned them in my previous videos on MR vs SR....

    • @Gracefulwarrior2124
      @Gracefulwarrior2124 Рік тому

@@SD1ONE Okay so firstly sorry for the bad grammer; it was 3 am when I wrote that lol
Tbh I think the truck lengths are okay. A tayga can only handle a lonely flatbed/sideboard addon without a crane or even a spare tire if ya wanna tow trailers, which is why I mainly use the utility box for it. Trucks like the armored Azov make sense because its an 8x8. If anything the Step seems pretty long for its size so that may be an example.
I mean we techniquelly have C-255 tires with the tayga tires (I call them this because its the first vehicle I saw with them available) which are balloon tires. Honestly if there was an MR tire option I'd really want in SR, it would be B-131 tires.
Its really a matter of situational awareness. If there's a road that is very uneven, tilting a lot, or has a lot of rocks, chances are it's not a road u wanna be using the Freeway Highgear on lol. I mean I understand the Chevy Kodiak considering it is old and has the classic suspension bounce of older times. It can be pretty fun though when you stick a crane, heavy cargo, or preferably a full fuel tank on it and decide to go trail blazing, and end in a fiery wreck lol.
I just wanted to clarify the pros and cons to each game. Don't get me wrong, I do like the satisfaction of MR suspensions, but I like how SR frame flex dynamically changes with weight, and also how the pivot changes with the specific location of addons.

Man, Snowrunner looks like a cheap imitation and not a sequel:

So my thing with Spintires (As I have always called Mudrunner) is that it overall feels like a more realistic experience. Yes, it's less "Fun and flashy", but me personally, I love how lifelike everything feels in ST/MR. Simple things like how the mud reacts to you driving over it. With certain loads and consistencies of the mud, it will either pack under the tires allowing for traction, or it will realistically squish and swallow the tires. It feels like everything in SR is made to be as dramatic and extreme as possible for the pure spectacle of it, but it, in turn, takes me out of the experience. It's a shame, because SR is such a pretty looking game.

I think the flex in MR is a bit crazy, SR trucks flex when they are loaded, with no load they doesn't flex so much, I don't know how much those vehicles flex but I know that trucks and even some pickups works better when they are loaded because suspension is made for work with cargo.
The stumps is real life are really hard to take off the ground even with heavy vehicles so I think SR ones are closer to reality, I just wish we had a chainsaw...
And terrain, reality always surpasses fiction, in real world terrain can be so much harder than the Snowrunner terrain.
About the sounds I don't have idea, but I will look for some videos of the real vehicles to hear the engines.
The wires detail is really cool, i don't know why they didn't add it to Snowrunner.
And the realistic crash I think it should be in a middle point between Mudrunner and Snowrunner.

Though I've played more Snowrunner than Mudrunner by a considerable margin, I feel like Snowrunner was made to be more relaxing, forgiving and attractrive to those outside the simulator style game demographic, meaning people who hadn't seen or played anything in MR wouldn't have noticed the missing details.
That being said I feel like sometimes the missions in SR are more drawn out for the sake of making up for the ease of getting the supplies from point A to B, like in Michigan you need service parts to clear a road, how do you get them? You have to drive to some warehouse on the other side of the map, but most of the road surface is asphalt so most of the slowness of slogging through mud isn't there like you would normally in MR, so you may have a long drive, but it doesn't feel like a long drive in SR, depending on the region.
