It sucks that theres no movie about the black brunswickers, their actions during the napoleonic wars we’re so heroic they fighted to liberate germany from napoleon opression and no one talks about it. Those military corps faced off a larger army and got 2 decesives victories against the Napoleon puppet state “Westphalia” ruled by his brother. Then they fought bravely against Napoleon and even their leader the black duke died fighting him for brunswick germany and his father which also died fighting Napoleon. Well....in 1821 the Greek Independence War against the Ottoman Empire started. There was a special unit among the Greeks called "sacred band". This unit was founded by Alexander Ypsilantis, which was a Greek former senior officer of the Imperial Russian cavalry (Hussars) and was even badly wounded during the battle of Leipzig in 1813. This unit (400 strong) wore exactly the same black uniforms as the black Brunswickers, exactly the same black shako with the skull emblem on the forehead with only one exception.....the plume on top was white! Their moto was....."glory or death" like the black Brunswickers! Most of the members of this unit were young Greek college students in Europe.....very enthusiastic, but with little or no combat experience at all. They were all killed during the Independence War.......still remembered with respect and admiration in Greece due to their sacrifice!
