I have looked at quite a few of these Carpet Fitting guides but this one is the best by far. Simple, to the point and more than a few tips for the DIY'er (that's definitely me) I now feel a lot more confident to have a go at a small room and hopefully work my way up from there
Nice one lads, shiny bolster, Wolff knives, as a fitter of 40+ years, you nailed this. Only thing i would do different is ALWAYS tape my joins in the underlay & a few more staples, but as you said, just personal preference, otherwise 100%..........Nice one indeed.
This is bang on .. this is a genuinely exactly how I was taught as an apprentice to fit rooms, clearly worked as a carpet fitter at some point and moved on to multi trade now good job 👍🏻
I'd appreciate some advice as I'm at a loss searching online: For carpet door bars....why is the standard size 90cm when most door inners are around 75cm? I've discovered that you're supposed to hacksaw the flat bars to fit, but why are the ready-to-fit carpet-to-carpet grip bars sold at a standard 90 if most door inners are around 75?
This is a great ways to help others useless ( DIY ) people like me. Thank you so much guys..I watched many videos but yours best of the best!! Ps subscribed and shared!
Great instruction vid guys. Love the corner V for Vendetta technique, so now Ill never forget it. I have a room that narrows to a 1m corridor at one end (like a pyramid) meaning I will have loads of spare to manage the closer I get to it. Any tips for managing the spare carpet either side of the cuts? Also, I followed your stairs guide and got a great finish thanks.
Hi gentlemen. I am a lady of a certain age, do you think I could manage to fit my own stair carpet or are you just advising other men? I ask because the carpet I have bought for the stairs is a good quality, not thin or flimsy?. I guess I am asking, should I get a carpet fitter to do the job incase I ruin it? Great videos... Learned loads. Thank you both. 👍🥰
Just fit my bedroom carpet, love your videos and this video really helped. Struggled on cutting the carpet with the right amount to tuck, always seemed to be leaving too much and having to try re cut which was awkward as there wasn’t a lot of room to cut. Any tips to make sure I trim the right amount for tucking lads?
@@jdc9809 I can confirm, it comes down to practice and look a lot of little mistakes like cutting too short or cutting too long. Like when you were learning to write as a kid. You learn to stay in side the lines and get your spacing right.
Hiya, thanks for the clear instructions. got a quick one though as what I'm trying to do is to fix a squeaky floor underneath near where the door trim/ door bar is. What would be the best way to remove/lift the carpet as it's currently being gripped by the trim? hope I'm makin sense. Cheers
hello uhm “lads” i didnt understand howone decided which walls to start on, and the frame of thinking for which way to go. I understand it suppose to be tight like as if i was trying to put a plastic over a canvas to make it smooth using anchor points. it seems there isnt consistency in deciding which wall to start on why and the reasoning. i know it seems the first wall one starts on they dont stretch they only lock it in?
Hi, If I have a gaps between my floor boards, would you fill them in? I have about 5mm gaps between the floor boards. I can't see them being filled before. Old underlay was a black rubber type and there are a lot of dust gathered in these gaps. Thanks

Very informative, thanks. I am needing to run an electric cable (10mm cable so won't be able to run directly under the carpet) under the floor boards, following the line of the old cable. I need to lift and then replace the carpet without damaging it. Is there a way to do this myself or would you suggest hiring a professional?
@@Pikeandslippers yep and a carpet bolster and you should be able to do it fine if you want to tackle it 😊 plus any questions just ask we’ll try and help we are on Instagram also if you need quicker responses 😊😊
This is video is so misleading. Why would you use a knee kicker and not a power stretcher? Also, you should wear high quality knee pads, not the cheap ones. No way a knee kicker will stretch thick quality carpet tight. Please tell them they should use a power stretcher for best results
WRONG this is fitted to BS specs so don’t come in here making false accusations pal . Your name says it all confused for sure over 5m requires a power stretcher ! Thanks for stopping by however have a good day

Great informative and helpful video guys. I was just wondering what length of staples do you use 6,8, 10mm etc. Thanks very much.

Little tip for you... instead of struggling with wires around the edge, simply trap the wire with some more gripper
what wires ? and we have videos on how to do exactly that
Very nice
Fantastic guys
Thanks much appreciated
me watching videos after i watched videos and fked my carpet up what i thought was a straight cut was not , now need to buy ne carpet
I'm sorry to hear that. How did that happen ?

Best bet is to work from a wall up to the bar to remove it just be carful not to damage it when pulling it out 😁😁 hope that helps

I have hard floors instead of floorboards downstairs. How do I securely fit grippers and underlay ???
Thanks
Same method 😊
Don't you think that proofesional floormans leave not holes on the floor like you do. Costumer can injurid yourself.......

I would suggest a 5.5mm ply sp101 filling could create creaks in the future 😁
What is you had laminate floor fitted before hand, then have a 10mm gap between floor and skeleton boards?
How to full the gap?
👍🏻

How comes you rolled out the underlay and then flipped it colour side up? Doesn't the colour side usually face down? Good video thanks

Do you do a video where you show how you cut in around the radiator pipes
Hi there is a video in my shorts video showing you how 🔥
Where would you start on a landing that has 4 doors and only a small stretch of corner wall?
what blades do you guys use to cut underlay?
Standard straight blades 😊
@@homeimprovements you make it look so seamless cutting the underlay. When I tried it, it just went wrong. I gave up after lol - great job lads
Do you have any videos like this but on concrete flooring ? ☺️
Not at the moment I will make a video to show you in a couple week 😊
No Additive spray for the edges?
It's called tackstrip
It’s called gripper and how do I know that because the box literally says gripper rods on it 🤷🏼♂️
Tackstrip
what course do u recommend to learn carpet fitting?
Best to go with anyone who is local to you 😊 or get a job as an apprentice
"I don't staple the centre of the underlay as I don't see the point" but you did it anyway? 😆
That’s not the centre of a run of underlay it’s the edge of that run 👍🏼
@@homeimprovements lol that's the centre all day! I've never seen a fitter staple the joins on underlay, but I have seen them taped.

Why don't you seam the carpet in the door ways. It doesn't matter if there different types/colors. Why the trim metal.
Why don't you seam the carpet together at the doorways instead of using metal
Standard practise in the uk as it’s popular to have different styles in different rooms 😊
Scrubbing 🤣🤣
