    Maybe the answer would a to find an old lock keepers cottage that needs some TLC, right by the canal with Holly moored right outside!!
    Sounds easy right 😂

    You start watching for the Canal and Narrowboats… you get to know the people, and like them, so you subscribe and watch. Now you just watch for the people and you don’t care what they’re doing.

      I think you need a fixed base whether it be on land or on water..... William will need more interaction with other children and for health reasons. My dad came from the potteries, so I'm interested to see any change of use from the old buildings along the way. You are an interesting couple am sure you will do well.

How about home schooling! He’s have a great education in Nature! Need more kids getting involved with it to protect it in the future. A Yank here, saying it's a blast to watch a vibrant young couple (with the cutest kid) doing your thing. My favorite videos are about the canals, especially the history, so you've got me aboard for those vids. I'm a cinematographer, so your scripts/capture/editing are what draw me in, especially how you keep the narration low key and down to earth! Have a great 2024!

    It's great to see you back on UA-cam. You have been missed! I'm a very down-to-earth person, so as far as where to live when your lease comes up: Remember that although William won't be starting school for a while, he will reach a stage where he will need to socialise with other kids of his age. That might mean ditching ideas of living in a cabin in the woods or a dilapidated old ruin! I don't think living in a tent would work for very long! At least, not in the UK! How would a small house on the outskirts of a village (local amenities and friends for William but not too in the middle of things) work for you? Peak District? Your ideas for videos sound great. I would love to see those.

    • @margaretwhite8996
      @margaretwhite8996 7 місяців тому +6

      @pilpelet100 . I totally agree with your comment 💯 on all aspects especially with regard to William, children need stability and routine and also friends In order to socialise! Jo was right saying once they start school that is it you are governed! Well said!

    • @richardcamp8301
      @richardcamp8301 7 місяців тому +8

      @@margaretwhite8996 To you both - I think there's a lot of peop[e with sailing channels who'd disagree that stability is a the standard live choice eg house, in town, 1.8 kids and a pet. etc. Delos, Zatara, good simple living etc have wonderful kids. I suspect being good parents is the stability not the location ,and so many seem to have forgotten that.

      Really miss watching you three in your boats. What about a bigger home boat and stay in an area for several months and just travel your Cafe boat around the area then move on to another area with the bigger home boat and stay several months until you find and area you really like when William is ready to start school? .

    • @margaretwhite8996

      I'd like to push back on the idea that the good life is only available in the countryside. Walkable, car-free urbanism in a well-designed city can be delightful. Though I'm not sure that that's available in the UK.

      Totally agree. Once my children went into education I felt I had totally lost them to the system. I remember parents standing at the school gate complaining about half term. They said teachers rest, mother's pest!
      I loved it when my children were on half term/school holiday, they were mine again!
      Unfortunately due to work and my husband being self employed, home schooling wasn't possible 😔

    @ejakeway 7 місяців тому +14

    I'm so happy for you three!
    My partner and I are taking the plunge to move from a 3 bedroom house into our own hand built cabin in the woods next year.
    We're from Ohio USA. I'm not sure how UK winters are but our biggest concern we keep circling back to is winters here are brutal and the local roads are not maintained by anyone so each winter we'd be trapped on our land until they thawed. But the overall adventure of living in a cabin we designed and built will overcome any fear we have.

    • @eightiesmusic1984
      @eightiesmusic1984 7 місяців тому

      UK winters are bad in Scotland generally but worsening in many other areas due to global warming and the effects of the jet stream- there have been 10 storms since last autumn up to last week, the latest attributed more to the jet stream. A tornado warning was in force for a number of places yesterday although there does not appear to have been any major damage. UK weather is usually relatively mild but is definitely becoming more unpredictable.

I'm in the States, so don't know the canal system, but you mentioned Lancaster, and regret that you hadn't done that one. Could you rent a narrowboat on Lancaster Canal? Or on other canals you want to feature? Then there'd be the family element added to the canal series. Just a thought. Enjoyed today's video, and getting caught up.

    Vic - just a thought of something which you might bounce off - years ago I discovered a book by David Byrne of Talking Heads fame about taking his folding bicycle on tour and cycling in quite different cities around the globe. Two fundamental features were that cycling (like boating) imposes a certain pace on your day while also offering certain freedoms, and that cities impose themselves on the social consciousness in unique ways. The book is called 'Bicycle Diaries', and worth dipping into on the wild chance you might find a copy. I moved to Yorkabout 22 years ago, and have formed the view that the walls around the city have a psychological effect even now...

      Yep. 23 for me was also horrendous - started to ease up in October. Re-establishing an even keel is what I'm doing now. Even if I have to abandon travel plans to make that happen

    Ideally a canal side property which needs doing up and converted into a cafe called Holly and a permanent home for you when William goes to school.

    I've been following you for ages. Such a lovely couple, and a breath of fresh air in all the doom and gloom going on the world. You're like the cafe boat version of Detectorists, but only now you're in a house. Keep being you. Wish you well for 2024 and look forward to your posts.

    Suggestion on where/what to do. Move to the peak district, buy a boat, it can be quite wet there, so that will cover floods. Buy a property to do up, buy a tent to live in whilst doing the renovation. Afterwards you will have a home. Covers everything you have thought about doing. Hope that helps with trying to make your decision. Either way, I and loads of others will be watching you. Not like Big Brother, but, you know what I mean.

    Lancaster and surrounding areas Fabulous to visit.I walk the Lancaster Canal from the City then come down by the River Lune.Beautifful Historical City...Maybe pop into Glasson it has a Branch of the Lancaster alas the Lock isn't open but a lovely village there.Or do a bike ride from Condor Green up into Lancster.Then if you want to see a hidden gem visit Heysham Village absolutely breathtaking views across Morecambe Bay and walk or cycle down into Morecambe.
    Whatever you decide will make interesting viewing! a renovation project now that would be very cool.❤

    I keep thinking you should look at villages and towns you're interested in then check out the real estate to see if there are any old tea rooms for sale, possibly with accommodations upstairs, sot of two birds with one stone. Anyway, you fans alone would swarm the place and you could make more to play more😊. Holly the Tea Room? I'd come if I wasn't in the states. If you do it we will follow. 🫂🍰

    Looking forward to both the canal history and the transit series. I have been involved in driving historic trams for over 20 years--in a city which has made some terrible transit-related decisions.
    As a result, that has become a passion of mine too--as if I needed any other interests or hobbies.
    The Europe videos were really great, and they looked like you were having a lot of fun making them. I guess that some will be afraid that you will drop the narrowboat theme, but I think you should continue to experiment and see where it leads you.

    Have you guys ever thought about making videos which could be sold online. The videos would be about the villages along the canal system. There are so many wonderful little places that are never seen from the road.
    As for a sport activity think about paragliding.
    As for a place to visit DO visit Slovenia. It is truly an amazing country.

    Both of you are so supportive of each other. It doesn’t matter what you do as long as you two are together. I like Jo’s paper cut outs for William. Vic, I can see you making a video of the paper cut outs in black-and-white and William using his imagination and the white paper cutouts, turning into brilliant shades of ocean twinkling colors with the sights, and sounds of a child’s imagination. I for one, cannot wait to see more videos!!!!! Wherever you moved to, make sure you have the space to be creative with great Wi-Fi. Jo needs a really up-to-date kitchen no question. At Williams age all he needs is love and attention. God bless you both. Keep the videos coming.❤
