fantastic and informative video as always. the gingergm has a remarkable way of explaining in a fun and clear way. by far my favourite teacher. it is nice to know that even at the 2300 elo level the same principles apply and mistakes can happen!

color oscillations on your face are due to the following:
Your face is primarily illuminated by your screen. Your camera/pc is trying to make you look natural even in this strange light.
Lets say your picture is pale. Your face is on your screen, so the light from your screen is pale. The camera realizes you are in bluish light, so it adjust your face to be warmer. Now your screen gives of redish light. the camera realizes you are in red light and tries to correct it by making you paler. Thats the loop.
Fix it by using better lighting. Alternatively, dont show your face on your monitor to break the feedback loop

Oh, for those who play Pirc as black, when white goes for the 150 attack you can also delay castling and expand on queen side. Effectively they are like a Yugoslav attack without cxd4.

Very nice game, thank you very muuuuch !
By the way, how sad is this : my two least loved openings are ... 1.d4 and the sicilian with black. Dear Simon is playing that a lot !!! How sad.
I love to watch the Dutch, though ( not playing it ).
How about some Pirc or some Ponziani ?
    Cheers !

16:33 There is an interesting tactical shot here: *1.Rf5!?* winning a pawn. If *1...Bf5 2.Bd8+* wins the queen.

As a 1400 OTB player I am stunned how those of 2000+ fall to tactics, simple tactics late in the game. Guess I will be concentration on nothing but tactics from now on! Great game Simon.

This video is exactly what it's like when I play the Sicilian. White is all over me, I don't really know what I'm doing with this opening but I'm trying, then every once in a while I look and see there is a tactic. Or there WAS a tactic and maybe I saw it too late. It's sort of the reason I decided I'm not really cut out for Sicilian. Too hairy. But fun games always.

That’s a good find and looks like an interesting try. I’m not sure it works though after Nxb6, then say Qxf6 black has Na4+ and the combination of Q&N against the weak king looks ominous. White might be able to wriggle out though and there are alternatives to Qxf6. Trading the queen for the rook on h5 may still be the best option though as white has the attacking comp that Simon faced in the game. He had to defend quite carefully even though a queen for a rook up, whereas I would’ve got checkmated. 😂
