I've wanted to be a Firefighter since I was six years old. I'm 21 and going into the CCC this summer as my first step. My career goal is to eventually work for CAL-FIRE, I have the utmost respect for the men and women and what they do here.
Does anyone know what the difference is between CAL FIRE and the CalOES Fire & Rescue Division? The only thing I saw are the colors of the firetruck: red vs. yellow
CalOES stands for (if I remember correctly) California Office of Emergency Services. So when a state of Emergency is declared OES resources are activated. these resources are staffed by multiple different agencies across the state from city departments to county departments. they are all funded by the sate even though they may not be staffed by state employees. Its like having a special reserve force on standby for those especially bad wildland fires or other natural disasters.
TheCounterG Cal Fire is basically like any fire department that works wild land, ems, and rescues. CalOES Fire& Rescue is used when there are big situations for example fires, wild land fires, and etc.
I cant decide if i want to become a hotshot for the usfs or work for cal fire. I am really into the outdoors and the wildland fire atracted me to this type of work. Wildland fire fighting seems like the field that i would want to go into. So does anyone have any info to either convice me or encourage me to become apart of cal fire or to become a hotshot for the usfs.
