Looks awesome Andy! Tired of dealing with my Grant wheel and install/horn kit. Those horn kits have lousy setups and seem to be prone to arcing/sparking - I'm over it! I'm looking for an all in one 'kit' like you described that won't break the bank. Much appreciated - can't wait to order and get this done.
Hey Andy - so I just ordered this same exact kit for my '65, and I noticed that the horn button has a single red wire with a female spade connector coming out of it and it's plugged into one of the male connectors on the back of the horn already. Then, the big aluminum mounting 'collar' has two red wires with female connectors coming off of it, but I only have two connectors on the back of the horn button. I'm confused - it feels like I have one extra red wire - the one coming out of the horn button itself? TIA for any help you can offer, as always!
@@banks412 Each red wire coming off the wheel hub needs to attach to the back of the horn button, but it doesn't matter which wire goes on either connector. However, based on what you said, it sounds like you only have one place for a red wire to connect to the horn button? My email is on the info tab of my UA-cam homepage, send me a pic and I'll see if I can point out what to do. :)
I wasn't a fan of the wooden steering wheel at first. After seeing your 2nd one installed it is growing on me. My 1st and 3rd Mustangs were 65s with black leather wrapped steering wheels. Your wooden Cobra steering wheel looks pretty good!
Great video as usual. I mounted a similar CJ wheel on my 1968. The horn button would short out against the inside of the mount whenever activated. I had to put insulating tape over the back of the horn button. Nothing is easy! Russ
Looks fantastic Andy! I was actually thinking of getting that same one for my 63 falcon I wonder if it fits I mean the falcon is the predecessor to the mustang .
Andy, Love the video. I purchased a similar kit from cj pony parts for 65 mustang. I was concerned about your statement about the turn signal cancel pins, placing them in to far. No instructions on the depth. What is the proper depth for the inserted pins? Thank you.
Sorry Boss, I couldn't tell you because they do not provide that info, and I didn't measure mine. You might have to measure the distance from where the hub would be fully seated on the steering shaft, and the distance to the turn signal cancel mechanism, to see how much clearance you have and need. :)
Thanks! Yes, this wheel doesn't affect the turn signal mechanism, it's the wheel hub (the part that gets bolted to the steering shaft) that has to work with the turn signal mechanism. This does work with the stock turn signal. :)
@@AndyKruseChannel Thanks!!! guess im ordering a new wheel in the morning. Any problems with getting the horn to work properly, like no rand blowing of the horn?
@@scottbitterman1331 No issues with the horn, wiring, or the hub. I did have an issue with my turn signal wiring assembly where the horn contacts are located (not part of that steering wheel kit). One of the horn contacts was busted so I had to order a new turn signal wiring harness. Once I replaced that, everything was great. Again, all that wasn't related to the steering wheel assembly from CJP, it was a pre-existing condition with my car. If I had to do it all over again, I'd buy the same steering wheel. In fact, I did. I had this exact same steering wheel on my previous Mustang. 😄
@@AndyKruseChannel I had to figure out the horn connection which wasnt addressed on either your video or the one from cjpponyparts. once I did it all worked out but i did find out my steering shaft is bent and had to shim my ts switch so it would not blow the horn while turning the wheel. Thanks again
I added this wheel to my 66 mustang, beautiful add on. I’m having an issue where the roller pins that reset the turn signal switch are clicking a lot. I’m guessing they’re not in deep enough. How did you install yours?
This clicking is normal as the levers on the turn signal harness "click" as the go past the roll pins, but when you turn the wheel back the other direction they push on the harness arms and make the turn signal back to the default position. Mine does the same thing. On my last Mustang, I installed the same wheel but drove the pins too far in and they didn't work. Once you drive them in too far, they don't come out. :)
I have a 66 coupe I am finally able to restomod. I have a tilt column but no steering wheel yet. Do you feel the 15 inch steering wheel gives you enough clearance leg wise?
Yes, with a tilt column. Barely, with a stock fixed column. Those with an Auto tender to do better than those with a manual, because of the need to actuate the clutch with the other leg. Doing the tilt column conversion is on my list as I need the extra space. However, cars with power steering can get away with smaller steering wheels, which frees up some space for leg room.
Too tall for how the car is setup now. The seat does not move easily and the steering wheel does not tilt. Two things I plan to remedy, but until then it's uncomfortable.
Hi Andy I just fixed my turn signal cam. Basically replaced it. All good there But , I have a Grant steering wheel and horn set up. Are you familiar? This design is driving me nuts . The horn is so sensitive by design . The contacts are too close. Second , I’m not a fan of the two pin blinker cancel. With the Grant it keeps clicking even when turning normal I tried adjusting the pins so many ways. Anyway , it only seems to catch one for the cancel Thanks Rich
Sorry Boss, I'm not familiar with how Grant does the horn button and the contacts. Maybe sand a few millimeters off the tips so there's a touch more space? For the cancel pins, I have the same problem with my turn signal switch. I've learned to deal with it as they're new and will likely soften/wear over time and not be so loud. :)
@@AndyKruseChannel thank you andy for this very quick answer I have a Mustang from 1965 CA and I would like to make all the improvements to it so that it is pleasant to drive I am from France again thank you for your video and your explanations it's great 👍 😘😘 😘
That's a great question. On my first CJP wheel, I accidently pushed them in too far and they didn't trip the turn signals after turning the car. On my second wheel (the one in this video) I pressed them in until they were firmly seated and tested the hub on the steering column until they would trip the turn signal reset but not get snagged on anything. I wish they specified in the instructions, but I could not find that dimension. :)
