Am I just ahead of the game? Im currently playing rondo alla turca, but not fully done yet. Still got about half of the piece yet but I’ve been playing for 2.5 years
@marcoquezada6168 I wasn't trying to be as such. But 30 minutes a day for 20 years (if you do it properly) should in my experience enable you to play harder pieces with more subtlety
I took piano in college. I'm finishing my degree in music/voice at 61! I only had one semester in piano and learned Moonlight sonata. You have just inspired me to learn it period! Thank u because in my head back then, the 80s., I was intimidated by it. My own doubting myself issues even though my parents said "look! You have so much talent." My beautiful Juilliard trained Dad even flew my to DC in the 83 for a world wide contest. And still I couldn't see. Now I see all the talent that God has blessed me with and realized that it's not to late! Thank you! It's in me. My Dad bought us a little organ then thought us songs like She'll be coming around the Mountain! Lol. That was the 70s! Love y'all ! Just found you!
I love to play the piano and the organ and after 1 year of organ I became the organist for the Chapel Center on Schofield Barracks on Oahu. My teacher was the organist and was transferred by the Air Force. Taking piano as a child for 3 years I hated it! The organ stole my heart. But I gave my Baldwin organ away and have my Baby Grand that sits idle. 😢I need and want time to myself but get none with my husband ALWAYS here sitting. I had even started on my music degree as a single Mom working in ICU as an RN.Now 70 and retired I should have more time but rescuing cats and kittens is one of 3 things attached to my soul; music, animals and running. So I run at night ( the desert is hot and too sunny for daytime) my time to myself.🤷♀️
I am really confused. I gave up trying to find someone to teach me forty years ago because everyone told me that nobody can learn piano unless they start as a young child. My parents when I was 15. The music teacher at my high school told me they don't teach piano for students beyond third grade and a piano teacher who advertised in another state where I moved to in my twenties told me that piano teachers don't take students who are adults and she said her cutoff point for beginners was 10 and was not optimistic that anyone over 5 could ever be proficient at anything beyond chopsticks whatever that is. So i gave up. So when you say you took piano in college you mean you took advanced master class lessons but you really started as a child? All I ever wanted was to learn the piano. I'm 64 and now I have arthritis and diabetic neuropathy.
@Prayers4allhere I started piano at 6 and lasted until 8 and hated practicing 1 hour a day. So my Mother let it go, and when I was 11, she sold it and bought an organ and wouldn't let me touch it unless I took it seriously. I loved it and took 2 years or less of lessons and took over my teacher's job as the organist at the chapel center in Hawaii at Schofield Barracks because he was transferred. To this day, even though I donated the organ to a Church because it wouldn't fit in our house with my Baby Grand, I love the organ. Now at 70 and retired RN, I miss it. But with cats I rescue it wouldn't work. I evenwent back to school for my degree in music which I couldn't complete because I was expected to perform every weekend but worked in ICU! 🤷♀️ I used to be cleaning house, and when I came to my Baldwin dusting, I stopped and played for an hour and picked up where I left off in the house. Talk about your best friend. Some day, I'll get an organ with fewer cats in the house!🎵🎶🐈

As a student in the 9th grade of music school I have to say that the moonlight sonata's 3rd movement after playing for 5 years only would likely be a great achievement ;) (yup, i know this is for entertaining purposes only xD). I'm currently playing it for an exam with other 3 compositions, but this one seems to be one of the hardest pieces i've ever played by now (however this sonata is around 10th-12th grade level commonly).

@@VidalMontes well It depends on a lot of things besides how long you’ve been playing. I’ve learned plenty of songs on my own, but that was after I learned how to work at my own pace. I’ve done lessons since I was 7, and my teacher is one of those teachers who doesn’t really understand “working at your own pace” type of things, and so until I had a passionate interest for other songs besides my little sheet music songs(lol), I have learned so many difficult songs that most older people that I know can’t play. I am 12 years old, and I know that learning songs like that requires a free time that not everybody has and I had to take breaks for lessons and stuff often because I always wanted to learn more songs like this.
