  • 1966 Plymouth Belvedere II 426 Hemi-Muscle Car Of The Week Video Episode #178:
    www.musclecaroftheweek.com - When does a Soft Yellow 2-door hardtop with gold interior qualify as a Muscle Car? When it's a 1966 Plymouth Belvedere II with a tire-roasting 426 Hemi and a 4-speed stick-shift transmission! This is a clean example of a classic sleeper from The Brothers Collection.

    As a boomer who got his driver's license in 1966, this Plymouth Hemi of the same year was always my dream car. That it was so simple, almost mundane to look at, qualified it as maybe the ultimate mass production sleeper. And I mean ultimate.

    Love these square body '66-'67 Belvedere models...have a '66 with 383 and 4-speed in black. Gets alot of attention at car shows and cruise-ins with multiple first-in-class trophies and one best of show. Thanks for sharing this one!

      A High School buddy of mine had the 66' 318 Belvedere. Coming back to Southern Maine from an Alice Cooper concert way up in Bangor, Maine with four people going 105 mph the whole way was no problem. In another case, same car, and crew, we hit a small dear going 70 mph on RT 295 while on our way to see the band Mountain, (radiator hose, replaced it) at Bowdin College. We made it on time and returned safely with a slightly messed up grill and headlight gone. I guess the bumper absorbed most of it. I hit a dear going about 10 mph and needed a new hood, one headlight, and the grill was totaled on my 69' Mercury Monterey. The dear I hit was a big buck, however, and my girlfriend puked about 10 seconds before the dear hit, she only had about two Miller Lites. I took her downstairs and washed her off after bringing her back to my parents house. My old man didn't believe my dear story until he picked dear fur out of the grill the next morning. The night started off good anyway, my parents were supposed to go out for the evening but changed their minds earlier so we ended up watching TV together with my parents upstairs. By 8:00 PM on a Saturday night I had a wreaked car, a sick girlfriend, and my parents in the house.

    I had the 66 “tan” Belvedere II 4 door sedan with the 225 slant 6 as my car in high school. You could work on it with a crescent wrench and a hammer. I drove it for 90,000 miles and only did regular maintenance. Finally the tranny started slipping and I traded it in on a Nova with a 350 Quadrajet. The Belvedere was my first car and I still have fond memories of it and the big back seat!

    My favorite muscle cars ever made are the 1966 Hemi powered Belvedere's and Dodge Coronet's. Biggest sleepers ever to come from Detroit. I'd love to see a MCotW episode done on a 67 Mercury Comet 202 with the dual quad 427 side oiler... probably the biggest sleeper ever made by Ford

    I'm 16 years old and I'm looking at one of these to buy. I confess that after this video I became even more interested. It's a sensational car, even more so here in Brazil because it's an imported car, creates an absurd value.

    My late brother had the 67 GTX Hemi and it was a great car. The only problem that I could find with it when I got to take it for a spin was that it just had a hard time to stop if you drove it like one does with a car like that. He had it just over a year and a half and unfortunately he totaled it street racing and that was that.

    lol ive got the 225 /6 in my 65 dodge dart. In first gear it pulls nicely with that low end torque, but once in second there is no power left... 0-60 in 11 seconds on a good day! but man that 225 will run and run and run some more... incredibly reliable

      @mark9531 6 років тому

      Well, I don't know. The man is, if anything, an automobile statistical library. I doubt he would have made a statement which could so easily be proven incorrect.
      You could get the race-ready Belvedere II 426 cross ram, twin Carters with headers in BLACK. However, I do not think the street Hemi Belvedere II came in Black.
      Now the Belvedere ( I ), Satelite, or Coronet may have come in black. But you know, colors were often specific to model, engine size, and trim packages.

  • @schlongtip

    Why backup lights were not standard was beyond me. That was cheap. Why run over anyone if those magic lights ARE included. Paying extra to include such lights was worth the extra cost. No apologies for that input.
