    I learned a trick from my older sister who told me when you have sharp knives to wash my hand and your washing dishes by hand, put those sharp items behind the faucet on the sink and wash them last because you don’t want to put your hand in the water and cut your finger and that’s exactly what my sister had done and then she came up with that tip and I’ve done that ever since when I’m washing dishes by hand

    • @homemakingwithdenise
      @homemakingwithdenise  День тому

      I will start doing that. Thank you for the tip. That is such a great idea. I have certainly cut myself on a knife before by placing it in the dishwater and poking myself accidentally. I will pass this tip on.

    I am my own dishwasher. About 25 years ago, my sweet mother bought me a dishwasher to make my life "easier." It was the biggest PITA (pain in the arse) experience I had. I have nowhere to install a dishwasher, so I had to roll it over to the sink, rinse all the dishes off first, dry them (because I'm super frugal and didnt want to run the machine any longer than necessary). Then I had to unload it and roll it back to its home in the corner. I ended up giving it to one of my daughters after years of it sitting in valuable real estate space in my kitchen and never being used.

    • @homemakingwithdenise
      @homemakingwithdenise  3 дні тому +2

      Oh I hear you. If it’s not installed under the cabinet and all you have to do is load and unload…it’s not worth the trouble. We had a lot of people here and we were washing a lot of dishes. I will be glad when my new dishwasher is installed!

      They’re the best and you can put them in the dishwasher! I make sure to dry thoroughly under the gaskets. And, from time to time, I might soak them in baking soda dish water. I've had no problem with odors. And I love that they are stackable.

    Thanks, Denise, for another inspirational video. I used your tip to add water to my Dawn. As I am listening to your video, I'm decluttering my living room/dining room. I have a small apartment. I like to clean a little extra before the new year. Blessings to you and your family in 2025!🎉

    • @homemakingwithdenise

      I add the water to the Dawn because so often I'm squirting it on the dishes. My husband really likes to do dishes that way and diluting it just a little saves product. I figure it's not much different than running a sink full of water and squirting some dish detergent in.

    I purchased rubber guards (stovetop counter gap cover - Amazon for $9.98) for that slot between the stove and counter and it stops crud for going down the crack. You can remove and clean. 😊

      I use my dishwasher probably every other day. But...I rinse my dishes well before I put them in so when I have two days worth of dishes, it's a good little load. I've been washing by hand daily for the past month and over Christmas...oh my goodness. I can't wait for the dishwasher to be delivered.

    Hi, I am trying to cook most of my meals at home and have been watching your videos which I find interesting and informative. So I have been trying to eat healthy and I’m starting to buy glass Pyrex and non toxic pans. I know it’s hard to buy all these things because they are expensive. I have a little starter kit. Mostly because I am trying to detox and my daughter is picky. She has her own family but I like to bring them food sometimes. So I just got a cast iron pan and I read about how to treat them but I think it would be nice to get a tutorial from you about greasing and caring for cast iron. Thank you

    I am here on the replay.
    First- for the stove, if the glaze is still there, try putting a wet fabric softener sheet in it at let it sit. All those chemicals in it that soften your clothes should soften and break up the glaze.
    Second- your corningware might be in my cabinet. I probably have 30 pieces if not more. I use them all the time. I pick them up at garage sales and estate sales for $1-$2 each. I even have a corningware percolator for when we lose power (which is often enough), we put it right on our wood stove.
    I love all your videos, I find you inspiring. Since finding your channel not too long ago, you can see improvements in my house keeping.

    • @homemakingwithdenise
      @homemakingwithdenise  День тому +1

      Wow, you must have quite the collection of Corningware! It's amazing how much you can find at garage sales.I finally got the glaze off. I went to Lowe's to buy a new dishwasher, and the clerk suggested I try Cerbrite? It's what they recommend for ceramic cooktops. I did the trick. I let it soak on there for a while and with some scraping, I got it all up. Whew! Now as for your homemaking, I am so glad my videos are helping you make a difference. Can you tell me what resonated with you most?

    • @MySecondhandLife
      @MySecondhandLife День тому

      @homemakingwithdenise I found your channel with the $30 challenge, and I enjoyed the video, so I watched a few more and just watched as you take everything in stride. You make your home so welcoming, or at least you give the appearance of being welcoming, and that's what I want. Before, if you walked into my house, the first thing you were grated with is 3 weeks' worth of mail. Now I bring it in, sort it, toss it, burn it, it's gone.
      Now, I make my bed each morning properly. I didn't bother before, because my husband and I are very different in bed, he likes a sheet and light blanket, I am always cold so I sleep under 3 or 4 blankets. Now I make the bed and the blankets he doesn't want, he just folds over into my side.
      I'm watching your videos too see how you make it work, then finding my own way of making it work.

Especially because I’ve been struggling to stay on track these past few months, I’m feeling a bit lost. Being a new year I’m wanting to reset but could sure use some help. We had a great time for Christmas. However, I am looking forward to a quiet New Year's Day. As for the baby bottles, I used to wash mine first while the water was hottest or I'd run a second sink full of water for the bottles. I didn't want to get any grease on or in the bottles. Right now...I feel as if I've got dish pan hands...so dry. We've been washing a lot of dishes. I can't wait until the new dish washer is delivered. Tuesday! Tuesday! Tuesday! Preparedness on the other hand say two is one and more than that is being prepared. I follow Nontox U's Cookware Guide so I will get borosilicate glass for acidic foods, cast iron, carbon steel, and stainless steel. I hand wash dishes and let them air dry unless they will rust. I will dry them thoroughly if they will rust otherwise. First I need an income and a place for the three of us (Lee, our son Daniel, and me). Sharing a room with my mother and sister. Mom's things are in the room but she sleeps in the living room. My sister's and my things are in the middle and fringes of the room. Some of her things are in the dining room. Some of mine are on the front porch and in the storage building.
