3D printing and RC projects fit together really well. I don't have a lot of experience building RC boats but for the first time building jet derived speedboat, I think I did a fine job. There is room for improvement for sure...

Brilliant work, dude! Really well done! 😃
A tip about sanding: start with lower grits and progress them. I don't think you'd need anything lower than 80 grit... Then 110/120, 180 and finally 220 like you used.
Basically, the lower grits remove more material faster, but they leave scratches... Which you remove with higher grits. You know?
Well, at least that's what I use to do with wood. 😊
Anyway, stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊

that`s a REALLY cool projet. i`m also super impressed withthe power the boat has. you can tell it has a lot of torque. can`t wait to see the next step!!!

When you are sanding surfaces flat, it's best to use some kind of block material between the sandpaper and your fingers to spread out the pressure. I use high density packing foam cut into block shapes for example.

Great video I hope you do a completely new model after you do testing and work out the bugs.
I can see young adults learning from this as there first boat project.

Also, why not use thrust bearing somewhere to stop impeller from pushing gear forward?

Nice video. In RC model airplanes you often use belt driven gears for large props. They can handle much power depending on the size of the belt. Think that may be a good solution here as well.

I suggest you look into acetone welding, its a really good way to join ABS together, involves no glue and you can also acetone smooth the sides, so no need for sanding or screws
It produces really stong, water proof joins

I know this is a bit late, but you should try using belts to turn the impeller shaft, it does mean you have to purchase said belts and pulleys, but you can purchase pulleys with different ratios and get some excellent speeds

Really cool video and project! Love the whole experimental journey. Man, that boat really flies and turns sharply, impressive. What about tiny v-belts? Tooth belt might just get ripped apart. Even add a tiny centrifugal clutch! Keep up the great work

You should try to make the gears from two different materials

    For the gear.
You can add some steel rods inside..lube it it glue.
I have dosen of this. And it's even pla and it never fails.
    Think
    Reinforced concrete.
    Same principal

Hey man! Nice project! Note, at the end your gearbox broke, not the motor gear got demolished. Yea, in the end, it got demolished but that's because your gearbox was still holding on a bit, not a complete failure as the first two attempts. So, the gearbox was holding the gears barely together, but the axis distance was not supported anymore, the drive gear was able to move out and you kept pushing and pushing, luckily saving the boat without the fishing rod.

you should add a support on the other side of the motor gear. The technical term is double shear I think. You could do it pretty easily with a dogbone shape and two ball bearings. that way you can tie the two shafts together. (lol I said this before the video finished)

What you really need is not more powerful motor neither a gear ratio change, but to simply change the propeller pitch or lower the motor KV.
I know you didn't said it because this propeller is expensive, but that's why you should have tested it with plastic 3d printing first and then make it metal.

2:05 more thing, you could’ve just done the outside with fiber glass. It would’ve given you a even surface to sand

13:50 concentric infill is one of the weakest, actually. Try using cubic, octet or gyroid with 100% infill for much better strength. Or, at least, grid

Few notes - I doubt ender could print such large abs parts
    - you had trouble sanding because 240 grit is too fine for start, try 120, 180, 240

It needs a sail boat type bow under water and it would add the weight needed. Marine paint my friend. Its funny man. All these companies sponsor creators and im a retired first responder wirh ptsd and cant even get a discount on any gear for a non profit club in already 10k deep in wirh another 12 to 15 to spend. If no know one sees the good deed by a company then it never happens. Qidi promised me a printer some months back then said no. I didnt even ask for a free one. I asked for a discount and they promised me a free return model so i can print rcs for the club but like i said if no one sees a good deed then it never happened and no one benfits right. Even a short bus passenger gets awesome stuff and makes things wirh zero planning. Fuck qidi. Tell them that.

Great effort. But man, a tiny bit of forethought and you wouldn't hit so many walls. Slow down and think about what you're doing before you do it. The shaft stuck. The gear idea. Watching you run the boat into the lillys and then filling the boat up with water. And wings? Really? This kind of thinking is very frustrating to watch. Hope this gets better for you.
