Good Strategy! My strategy is a bit different: When outnumbered, I don't like bashing idiots (I'd rather ask them a thought provoking question which always leaves their brains hurting so they don't bother the people having an intelligent conversation). If you use this trick, then don't ask them too difficult question because idiots tend to get a lot more violent and aggressive if you make them think too much. Even when outnumbered, I enjoy arguing intelligent folks because they help me see look at things in different perspective. Intelligent folks, help me realize my own fallacies and mistakes. Sometimes even by losing debates you gain some precious knowledge you'd never find elsewhere.
