#84 I Hiked To The New Volcano In Iceland (Drone Footage)🌋🇮🇸

- Опубліковано 5 жов 2024
- This was the third time I hiked this way to see the volcanic eruption in Sundhnúksgígaröðin. The volcanic eruption started in the evening of August 22nd and is still ongoing.
The hike is about 11 km total with only about 40 meter elevation gain. Make sure to take warm clothes, good hiking boots, water and a head lamp with you in case you decide to do this hike.
Since the weather was good, I was able to fly my drone and got some aerial shots.
Here is where I parked:

I imagine the walk back over that old lava field must have been tough....
@@poppawolf26 there were some frustrating parts with big rocks
Awesome video! You’ve gained yourself a subscriber!
@@TheBenRatch Thank you so much!
Nice hiking conditions. Great drone footage.
@@lavapix Thank you 🙏🏻
Really nice late evening footage. I got there later, after a couple days a bad weather. I wasn't sure about that trail, so I went by the east side, on the old Fagradalsfjall trails. But this trail looked not too difficult, except for the fissures.
Thank you so much! The old trails must have been good.
@@hermannhelguson I only found the full trail system on 1 map- half of it was jeep trail. It got maybe a little closer to the craters, 5000 feet or 1.5 km.
Beautiful. Love to see all the scenery when you are hiking.
@@karentaylor83 Thank you. Glad you like it 🙏🏻
I'm glad you are safely back home in Iceland. Thank you for the volcano video, was waiting for that 😊 Excellent drone shots.
@@Stilo2244 Yes, it is good to be back home. Thank you so much! 🙏
you should carry a tall hiking pole when you hike over that terrain.....I find that it saved me from several bad falls over the years....
@@poppawolf26 That can really help, but I am very used to hiking in terrain like this
I love your video! Thank you for showing also the hike. I expected rough terrain, but these small holes and deep cracks are really dangerous at night. Glad you made it back safely. No idea how a "normal tourist" may have ended up. Greetings from Germany. Volcanoholic, following those eruptions from day 1 Fagradalsfjall. Iceland still on my bucket list, but in 2 weeks visiting the LaPalma lava fields.
Thank you so much! I was in La Palma back in 2021. Had a great time there and witnessed the volcanic eruption
@@hermannhelgusonbtw... 12°C and "hot": 34°C right now in southern Germany.🥵 Must be incredible to stand next to an active lava flow.
@@susannap.8834 Wow that is too much! Yes, it was extremely hot next to the lava. It felt like my skin was burning
Glæsilegt!
@@HallgrimurGudmundsson takk fyrir!
Magnificent! Thank you.
@@forthedisenfranchised4366 You are welcome and thank you for watching!
i will do this hike next week when i come to iceland, hope the volcano vill still be alive to see it ;)
@@lukaneznani3880 Hope you will have a great trip!
Wild, they let you walk right up to the running lava!! What are the rules about this??
Yes. Why is that wild? There are no rules now in this area as far as I know.
