Compared to what I have seen in the Philippines, that is luxury. In Manila I have seen slums that are literally built on garbage tips. There is rotting trash everywhere, flies everywhere and the smell of garbage is so bad it makes a person want to vomit.

My problem with Antananarivo is the unplanned urban development so nothing are getting done correctly...it's a very bustling city nonetheless

I am coming to Madagascar on a solo trip for 3. Do people, in tourist areas, speak English and do you recommend that I get a rental car or hire a driver?

6:19 That is actually the bottom of the river. During low tide it gets exposed like that. 7:00 House that are in bad condition are probably abandoned homes as the owners have moved to the mainland. Since they still own the lot at the water village it is still their property, and the authorities could not do anything about it. The newer part of the water village is made of concrete. 12:11 Being a former British protectorate, we see a lot of British, but rarely do we see anyone with red beard >_<
