    Pretty sure you can set that machine to grind up that hay more. I know you said slough grass but if you set the slug bar up so the cutters barely reach it you can cut it finer. Also I find one has to sharpen the blades occasionally or it won't cut fine. If you have wind problems, a few mudflaps hung at the deflector will help. Have the mudflaps almost touching the ground.

      No doubts it can do a finer job, but takes quite a bit longer to get through a bale. The cows will eat what's edible and leave the rest for bedding.

    i wonder if when i have more cows if i will have one. there is value in laying the bales out and let them pick through them.

      Depends on what types of hay you're feeding, but any bale it helps the cattle eat it more efficiently and cleaner. Even if the cows leave less hay behind, they'll send that much more out the other end too lol.
      I forgot to mention it does way better for bedding purposes than just with a pitchfork by hand... can get more even spread over the ground.

    👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻 The average litter of rats is 11 & they breed every 3/4 months. Best to knock them down early. Or get yourself some Terriers. Or a night vision scope & have some fun.

      The kittys will work them over this year. Monitoring the buildings for any holes and such for now.

    The more you process the feed the better it is...I find my cows do really well with tub ground feed

      Only thing that stinks is if it's windy... gotta mind the wind a tad or it'll end up in Mexico.

      @farming4g we get some pretty nasty wind up here also but my feed pile doesn't move until I dig into it

    I'm located north of Glen Ullin. Where do you purchase liquid feed from?

    • @farming4g
      @farming4g  2 роки тому

      Through CHS out of Napoleon this time... used to go through a private supplier for many years before he retired.

    this weather has me piling through the straw. don't get me wrong the moisture is great....., but Id rather have it in liquid form in April LOL

      Me too. I think we have plenty of snow for runoff... espeically with the wind blowing it all into drifts in valley and ditches where it needs to be.

      The kittys will be busy this year! They've been cooped up lately with the not-so-nice weather and the snow.

      @@farming4g our cats stay out in this extreme cold. Pretty wild though. Couldn’t coop them up if we tried.

    Good thing on the 😹eating them and all 👍 Ours have killed 🐱‍👤 but more like used them repulsive creatures to show off "look what I've done" type of thing, "now pet me a lot and tell me how good I am". Rats seems to go in waves, suppose they "migrate" when it gets to crowded at home 🤔

      With some of the bales that had whole corn cobs in them probably is the biggest reason... straw can have it too but it's been a while since i've seen a rat. The kittys will get on them once spring rolls around.
