The fact that Meltzer would lie about WWE backlash search numbers (the highest in the last 5 years, at the very least) should tell you all you need to know about his work ethic and whether or not you should trust what he says.
He probably didn't lie. He probably got his numbers shortly after backlash ended and assumed that was the best time to check.

If by 'standing up to' you mean 'getting completely flustered by,' sure. Every other publicly traded company deals with trade reporters and industry gossip; the rest don't turn into a deer in the headlights.

The fact Oli read meltzer's report and didn't check something so easily varifiable is why basic media literacy is needed in schools.
It was also a pain to watch backlash in the US. Peacock's replay wouldn't launch for most of us the day of the event, and the next day, they seemed to have reposted it, but it wasn't elevated by any algorithm, so you had to go searching for it. That reupload must have been a backup file of sorts, because the sound quality was quite tinny. However, that might just be attributed to the sound crew struggling to find a balance with the sheer volume of the hot crowd.
Edge was never in AEW. Edge is a WWE character.

It wasn't even that most fans "skipped" backlash, a lot of people have lives and things to do early in the afternoon on one of the first nice weekends of the year.

In terms of determining what the pulse of the WWE audience (Universe) is, social media metrics are what they usually go by. You don't need to search on Google much for info about a PPV/PLE if you use ANY social media app.
As for the PPV buys: come on. Lol. Streaming is king right now, and those that do purchase them are probably bars, theaters, or places like Dave and Busters doing watch parties.

I think it is important to keep track of the time an event starts. The fact the events are over before most people in the U.S. are going to be able to watch is important to keep in mind as we aren't likely to watch after the fact. Google searches aren't really that important and could vary for any number of reasons.
